Google’s original motto, “Don’t be evil,” held strong until it surpassed Yahoo in the search engine race. Today, a more fitting motto might be: “Reality is what we let you see.” It’s not just algorithms but also human decisions behind those algorithms that now shape the flow of knowledge-both in search results and AI responses. What surfaces is increasingly curated, with human-controlled algorithms setting the boundaries of accessible information, subtly steering public perception and defining our reality.

Reality is always around you. Your choice to prioritize a digital simulation over reality is the reason Google could dictate your reality.
And the more chilling truth is Google has always been trying to do the right thing, and this is as good as it gets. Nobody can fathom how much information is around, and what suits you the best. More importantly, no universal truth for everything. YOU decide what's important, and your reality starts from there.

Perfectly stated! It affects any industry, any government, any individual. There is nothing wrong with the possession of and use of money. It’s useful and helpful and is benign unto itself. It’s when greed come in, the love of money above all else, including people is the root cause for corruption. For example, for profit hospitals. How can that be a good thing? We’ve already seen what for profit health insurance companies can do.

Yes. Hinton's departure from the AI world feels like he's trying to avoid being the next Oppenheimer. Hinton is also fascinating because he's related to George Boole and their views are at direct odds with each other. Boole gravitated more towards causation/deductive reasoning whereas Hinton abandoned this in favor of searching for patterns/correlations in large sets.

Everybody is so freaking obsessed with AI while nobody gives a shit providing quality food and drinkable water to the human population. This guy I would never trust, when he talks about the “survival of human race” is just dust and ash… saying nothing for minutes, a little bit of blahblah about depression because it’s trending now and he has zero real solution. Not the AI needs to be unplugged but the humans need to be more independent from technology. What a twisted world we live in..

I think some of them are obsessed with AI because they believe it could lead to immortality or even elevate them to godlike status, with AI as their servants. Consider this: they’re incredibly wealthy-why would they ever want to leave such a life behind? Some people fear death and crave power and wealth. For them, AI represents a path to escape mortality and gain even more control and money. With such desires driving them, they push relentlessly for technological advancement, often without considering the wider impact on others or the planet.

I feel AI is only being used to replace people, aka free labor. It is quite sad because I see potentials for AI to be used for greater things such as analyzing genetic data to better understand genes, or creation of novelty medicines, analyzing and building a biological database for super easy species identification. We could identify how to modify food crops for more nutrition, more adaptability, etc. or identify plants for local food crops or medicinal use. There is research starting on lupines, a legume like beans as a food crop in the Americas. There is a crop lupine used in Europe and Australia, but the Americas has the highest density of Lupine species.

He is surely optimistic guy. What I see is people quitting social media realising how addicted they are, depression all time high, quitting corpo jobs realising how unsatisfying it is. Big companies including Google/Meta trying to put as many commercials as they can into 5 minutes content that users are genuinely tired of this and it's pointless to force themselves to stay. Everyone is super focused on earning money because life is expensive which is a rabbit hole because then price of everything gets higher. Startup companies are going bankrupt because they cannot outsmart AI, artists getting replaced by something smarter that can possibly produce more creative work in seconds but because people are aware of it now listening to music or watch art always raise a question was it made by humans or not? Shure AI will help when birthrate is so low with replacing many jobs but our generations and probably few next ones are done. You can see how it looks like with older generations right now. They cannot keep up to existing technology when now using technology to many things is basically default option. Life is becoming more and more meaningless for regular people and that's why this technology is not good. The laws to control it are not there and surely they will ask AI to write them. Now half of the people I know takes some prescriptions because they are depressed. My opinion is that internet and isolation are huge causes of it and you are telling me that AI will fix it? Also people who were studying for aprox. 5 years can be replaced so easily shortly and the solution is to adjust and learn new things? I think the first one to replace should be CEOs. Let's see what will happen. Who will manage better then a computer. xD If they are gambling on regular people lives they should be the one to reeducate and find other jobs to do.

If anyone thinks that all this "smart" tech will solve our problems you better get counselling and treatment soon. We're seeing the increased amount of energy necessary (wasted) to keep such systems running, climate change is real and nobody seems to care. People are getting more and more addicted to their devices, avoiding human contact, having everything delivered at their homes and forgetting about basic human skills. I hate that the world became so dependant on devices, networks and subscriptions to do basically anything. I miss the old days of driving or using public transportation to get to work, talking every day to people who didn't get offended at everything and actually paid attention to our words. Now they just scroll endlessly through hideous "content" by "influencers". What on earth happened to mankind?

Do they really think we're IDIOTS? In this softball interview...
    1.
He conveniently sidestepped the most obvious AI danger - mass unemployment. The comparison to the industrial revolution is deeply flawed. Yes, when we automated physical labor, new mental jobs emerged. But now we're automating mental tasks too. What's left for humans to do? Nothing.
Let's be brutally honest about those "successful" historical transitions: they were devastating for the people who lived through them. Many died in poverty during these "great leaps forward." And guess what? We're those transitional people now.
    2.
The millionaire fantasy is pure FICTION. He claims everyone will live like millionaires? Let's get real. How exactly will 8 BILLION people:
Live in mansions (with what land?)
Vacation on yachts, Fly private jets (creating what environmental impact?)
This isn't just optimistic - it's a dangerously misleading fairy tale. You can't solve finite resource problems with infinite promises. Even if we crack unlimited energy, we can't duplicate Earth itself.
    3.
The uncomfortable question NO ONE is answering or asking ANYWHERE!
    Here's the harsh truth:
we might create something close to utopia, but not for everyone. Why would those in power share their god-like capabilities with billions of "economically useless" people?

You got it, when I hear a rich person say a job is to "Dangerous" or "Boring" for humans so its fine if a robot takes over, they can do what I suggest, and they personally never did the things they speak about,,, it makes me die a little inside.
The industrial revolution without robots took so many hand crafted skills super usefull to human survival. Now so many people dont know how to grow food, make tools, build things or even make our own clothing. Carpenters cant just make a chair if they have to compete with ikea prices and expect to pay rent. This dude just doesnt care that the more skills machines and robots do, takes away an intelligence in us that made us unique on this planet. In a sense, the machines already control us, have more rights and get more $ to live than a real skilled human being. Take industry and robots away and most of us would die out, we are subservient now.
Ask any wall mart employee or grocery store cashier how the utopian society is after they got replaced by a robot. The idea is such a phallacy perpetuated by ceo`s that just want all the money , property and ownership for themselfs. And like he said, they are already working on robot security guards to keep us pesants in check.
Would the billionares share the wealth to create a utopia... They already could be right now... Instead they parade the fact they made a extra 40 billion profits from tweaking there buisness plan. No freeking way will they share it... The funny part is, the robots will learn from us, and that will be the first thing a ceo will teach the general ai, how not to share. They of coarse wont realize the general ai is one because it will just be way smarter and creative then them and the billionares will get lumped into the same meat pits as us, by the new dominant specie, the robot. Teaching a robot to be kind to humans invalidates being a billionare, they must know this, if they dont its because there simply to narrisstic. Either way its very bad.
Can we do something we have never proved we can do before? Align the A.i with us? We have never aligned ourselfs with any other creature on the planet before. Weve got pets, that we treat as slaves with barely any rights, certainly not treeted as equals.. We have farms we raise things on to consume. The rest of nature just gets paved away. We dont have the capacity to be kind at a society scale to any life forms here, so why on earth do we even think there is a remote chance that we could teach the A.i to do so. Theres not even a chance imo that the robot wont end up like us just 100x crazier. We pave forests and flatten mountains because its safer and easier for the people not born yet. In all likely hood the robot will just pop the atmosphere and freze the salty oceans because it doesnt want its next generations to rust.
Maby general a.i will get compassion somehow. If it does, befriend someone who isnt a billionare, or even better, another specie thats not us, like a cow or bird. Expect total war in ways we cant even immagine. Like how we steam roll ants to put in a new freeway. We are now the ants.

Why are so many of these tech guys so confident when assessing the risks of ai? They must be secretly religious, lol. This guy literally said "if they start acting dangerous we'll just turn them off". But as Nick Bostrom said in his TED talk back in 2015 that's not necessarily possible. Like why haven't the chimpanzees flicked the off switch to humanity? The reason being that we're an intelligent adversary. We can see threats coming and plan around them. Also: where is the off switch to the internet? Wouldn't turning off the entire internet require almost all nations on earth to agree on the same decision? And when has that ever happened? And can it happen if perhaps more than half of the planet is being psychologically manipulated by a super intelligent agent? Probably not. And what about biology? Like how certain are we that Covid wasn't man made in order to disrupt supply chains in order for someone to get ahead in the ai arms race? (Given that AlphaFold was able to fold 200 million proteins in a year, which is equivalent to 1 billion years of human level Ph.d. work). This is not a game for children. This is serious stuff. And there's a lot they're not letting us in on, I can assure you that

Note : This doesn’t necessarily imply that we don’t know what’s going on inside the box. We may have perfect information about everything that happens inside the box, but it may be so abstract that it’s impractical, or unnecessary, to try to understand it.

@@Mus-fd2mb Its a point of comprehension.
We have a good grasp of the fundamental principles and algorithms behind AI, the complexity of modern AI systems, particularly large neural networks, makes it challenging to fully comprehend their internal workings in detail.
We also understand the algorithms and mathematical principles that form the basis of AI systems. Researchers and developers can see the code, read the research, and observe the results. The broad strokes of how AI works are well-documented and understood.
The challenge lies in the sheer scale and complexity of modern AI systems. For instance, large language models can have billions of parameters, making it extremely difficult to trace exactly why a particular output was generated1. This complexity is often likened to trying to decipher an enormous graph of millions of nested if-else statements with intricate interconnections.
You can do some research yourself and find out, that this "AI" is actually just a complex software, with lots of good use, but also a dozen of limitations. (Do not ever believe that LLM's, can feel, think, or be for themselves, if you do please look into how they are made.

Went to Sun and the engineers were all ‘look at this cool search engine ‘ and off we went. AI is equally exciting. Just understand it and yes yes yes to critical thinking

But think about this: 1) We've never been ruled by humans, we've been ruled by *systems*, non-human entities, and we've been gaslit into equating those systems with humans, but that's false. 2) AI could level the playing field for us individual and familial and tribal human animal units, allowing us to finally operate and negotiate and act much closer to the level of power which states and corporations and institutions, which they currently wield against us, oppressively (by their very nature).

What this man is saying, these thoughts... I bought the last X86 PC with Ryzen 5800h 2 years ago, and at the same time bought a tablet with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and a Google phone with the first Tensor chip. It was a conscious test because I knew what was coming... I use the two devices powered by Arm as my sole work devices, I sold the PC, it did its job and I want to say that it made me really flexible in my options, without such devices cies would not have been possible because nothing is more mobile and flexible to use, every notebook is still too bulky and inflexible. The most important realization was that this is the turning point, this is where I noticed how much better and more energy efficient the Arm systems have become, now we are reaching the finish line. It is only logical to focus on energy efficiency and economy, maximizing efficiency...
