Excellent video, giving some useful tips. I am a little confused though. A few months ago, I was told by my doctor that I was pre-diabetic with a HbA1c of 6.2%. Recently, after another test, my reading was 6.0% I am male, 70 years old and weigh just over 10 stone. If I understand correctly, you are saying that a 'normal' persons HbA1c is between 6.5 and 7.5 % ? According to Diabetes UK, the limits are between 6.0 and 6.4% - please correct me if I am wrong. Many thanks.
Hi Steve 6.0-6.4% is pre diabetes. 6.5-7.5% is target glucose once diagnosed with diabetes - so not a normal reading. Obviously if you can go lower than this than all the better assuming medications aren’t causing dangerous low sugars Hope that clears thing up
I used to be passionate about cooking and could make all the types of pastry, breads, baking, preserves, complex sauces etc. After diagnosis of T2 two years ago, all of that is no longer needed. Diabetic food is largely simple assemblage. I hope that one day they will make pills so the consumption of nutrients is over as quick as possible

It would be easier to reverse it by diet, many people do.
Sir.. I have diabetes type 2.. Is eating 1 cup of cooked oatmeal every morning with 2 fried eggs or boiled eggs would that increase my A1C.. Over a period of time..?
Hi Jose Unfortunately it’s impossible to say. The reason being you can’t just look at individual foods because it’s your overall diet and lifestyle that makes the difference. It sounds perfectly reasonable as a breakfast , so in theory it’s all good. However, for example, you might be highly insulin resistant, you might then eat 500g of carbohydrates throughout the rest of the day, you might not do any exercise, you might eat no vegetables, or you might have the healthiest diet in the world. All these things will also influence your glucose levels. So it’s better to think about overall eating patterns and lifestyle and focus on being as healthy, fit and physically active and normal weight (if overweight) as possible. This will translate into good diabetes control.
Hi Patricia Thanks for the comment I did start by saying it’s impossible to say? So I’m not sure what you’re getting at? I said myself I can’t answer generically on TH-cam 👍
For example if jose ate just those oats all day his HbA1c will be lower than if he then eats loads of rice at the other meals. So it depends It’s individual depending on what each person does and what their body can tolerate
Hey I wouldn’t rule out any single food. It depends how you respond and what else you eat in a day. But on the face of it, yes I’d have no problem with that in moderation 👍
Both really. If the context of diabetes, looking at the overall carbs is the main factor but sugar important too Carbs aren’t bad They just might effect your sugars if you have diabetes So being carb aware is good practice
Not sure if you actually mean mix them together or if you mean take 2 different types of insulin The first option is there are mixed insulin’s on the market and the second option is yes and this is the typical treatment for type 1 diabetes
Still had potential to spike levels but really it’s about the potion and how susceptible you are to glucose spikes. But you can still eat all the food groups and we encourage it
Hey Chris Difficult to answer as I don’t know what your diagnosis or how your glucose levels are - and what meds might be helping to achieve that plus another 50 questions I’d want to ask. For example. If your sugars are normal, then oats would be a good choice. But if your oats send your glucose sky high then we’d need another option So then we can start listing off foods that are protein replacement based or lower carb but I dunno if you like them, how much time you have in the morning etc. I think your best bet is to have a google search for some recipes in the first instance and relate it back to your likes and dislikes 👌🏻
Thank you for all of this great information, you have helped me more than you know!

You say this is a re-recording. Couldn't you find a black pen?
Add Guacamole, Hot Sauce, Red Onions, Spices, butter, cheese, cream to scrambled eggs or omelets.
Thank you found this helpful :)
Glad it helped!

Hello, when looking at labels, do i need to consider carbs or sugar? Eg protein shake Huel

Carbs aren’t bad
They just might effect your sugars if you have diabetes
So being carb aware is good practice
@@diabetesdietguy Also be aware of the antinutrients and toxins in many plants.

No...they should be taken at least 2 to 3 hours apart
Egg alternatives????
Any protein based food, any vegetable. Ideally not full of fat and processed.
How about coffee and nuts?
Hi thanks for the comment
Caffeine can raise some people’s glucose levels but rarely is it a big rise. But otherwise coffee and nuts should be fine 👍

Still had potential to spike levels but really it’s about the potion and how susceptible you are to glucose spikes. But you can still eat all the food groups and we encourage it
What 48 to 59 means? Is diabetes or pre-diabetes?
That’s diabetes
But well controlled diabetes once you have it. It’s the targets we aim for basically
