@@theplasmacollider6431 You don't need carbs really. There is no such thing as "essential" carbs. Essential fats and proteins, absolutely. You will die without them. You don't die without carbs. Here's the thing, at any give time, there's about 2.1 grams of carbs/sugars required by your system and coursing though it. Now, mind you, those do go up during intense exercise, but generally, about 2-3 grams of carbs./sugars are required.
There's this thing, called gluconeogenesis. Turning fats into sugar. So, on a high fat diet like Keto, as long as you're getting enough fat, you can make whatever carbs you need. There are many levels/variations of this kind of diet too. Like "modified" keto, it's keto with a bit more carbs. and no ketosis. Some people cannot handle straight keto and must modify it. Like the CEO of the American DIabetes Association. She manages her Diabetes with modified keto. And the A.D.A. endorses low carb. high fat diets. Fredrick Banting treated Diabetic patients, before inventing insulin, with the kind of diets. Rollo proved it with the carnivore diet, way back in 1797.

I know i have diabetes, but in order to convince the HMO quacks i have to deal with, i must STOP taking ANY Gymnema Sylvestre for 3 months, and get another A1C!!! That will be early July! They will see my A1C in the mid 6 range, or even a 7. i haven't totally omitted all sugars and carbs from my diet, but i did cut down drastically, for mainly weight management. I also exercise everyday. I cannot wait til July!

Following Dr. Berg's recommendations starting in 2017, I've done all of this. Got rid of the sugars, the grains, the processed oils, fruit except a few berries; lost weight, lost all the pain I was carrying around in my body, lost my inflexibility, lost my vision blurriness, lost my skin tags and brown armpits, lost having to go to the bathroom numerous times at night, lost my sugar and carb cravings, and I'm 65. I feel better now and am thinner than I was after 8th grade. I know I was having hypoglycemia already at age 6 in first grade; now I can go 72 hours without eating and not even notice.
Great advice in your video. Thanks.

Some authorities think that intermittent fasting is unnecessary. If you don't eat between dinner and breakfast, that's almost 12 hours, and as we know, the first meal of the day is called break fast. If you drive sugar and starch way down in your diet, make sure you get enough protein, leafy greens and regular vegetables every day, with about 4 ounces of cheese, and a little cream allowed, you'll feel like $1 million, and all your blood numbers will be correct. You can have sugar every once in a while. Just not frequently.

Good video! Two months ago, my A1C level of 5.8 put me into the prediabetes category. Even though I thought my doctor was going to suggest something like Metformin when he said I needed to address my blood sugar, he instead said I needed to do the following: No more sugar or hidden sugars; no more bread; no more potatoes; no more rice; only eat foods that were not considered "high" on the glycemic index. Additionally, walk 30 minutes a day for at least 5 days of each week. So that is what I have done. I've already lost 12 lbs and some of my morning aches and pains. The only thing I've really missed is my craft beers, as beer is "liquid bread" when it comes to the glycemic index (however, he did approve of my nightly nightcap of a shot of bourbon). I'm hoping my A1C test in October will also reflect the results of my efforts.

Specifically, the A1C test measures what percentage of hemoglobin proteins in blood are coated with sugar (glycated). Anything that prevents the high spikes in blood sugar, to include not eating foods that spike the blood sugar, will help lower the A1C. AS for the exercise and weight loss, they will help too. I was diagnosed with Type II about just shy of 2 weeks ago. My A1C was over 10, my blood sugar was coming in around 368. I'm 11 days out from that, my blood sugar has been under 120 consistently. Basically what I'm saying is I reversed Type II in under 2 weeks. How? I cut out sweet tea/lemonade and went to coffe with stevia and spring water sometimes with squeezed lemon. My food has been a cut above from what many would be used to. Steel Cut oatmeal with fresh fruits or Eggs and Sausage or Ham steak for breakfast, Enchilada Casserole or Chicken/Beef Kafta for lunch, often with pico de gallo or tabouli (slightly less bulgur wheat than usual), and Pork chops with broccoli (salted and sprayed with lemon juice), okra, whatever. If I need a snack, I eat roasted peanuts from the shell and cashews. I try to keep my plate ratio 1/2 veggies and 1/2 meats with some fats. I walk around the block twice a day (about 20 mins each time) and do 3 sets of 4 arm exercises with 10lb weights. I did all of this in the midst of fighting Acute Myeloid Leukemia, Lung Cancer and Myelodysplatic Syndrome. You can beat diabetes into submission if you're willing to be disciplined. Just shop the produce and meat section, avoid the starchy vegetables and sweet drinks and you'll be surprised.

I think a big part of why carnivore works is because the plants have so much poison used in growing them and they no longer have the nutrition profile they used to do to farming practice.
I'm sensitive to nightshades(tomato, potatoes, eggplant and peppers) even when I grow them without poisons.

I really still did not care back then, but at the beginning of the yr I started a new diet of meat and dropped my blood sugar level down from 280 to 150 in the first month. It is still at 150-130 range. Worked hard to get it down to that level and happy. Feel like I have more energy like I did when i ran a marathon.

I have known several North Americans who, after only a few years in China, experienced gall bladder problems. Most of them underwent removal. This seems unusual for age 20-somethings, with no bodyweight issues, and I wondered if it was due to the high use of seed oils for cooking in China...??
When viewing TH-cam Videos recently about the American expat and Thai Silk businessman, Jim Thompson, who mysteriously disappeared in Malaysia in 1968, I was reminded of this. After 20+ years of living in Bangkok, Thompson had developed gallbladder disease. When he walked away from the highlands villa while vacationing, his gallbladder medication was left behind. It was found in the pocket of his sports coat which was draped over the deck chair he had last sat in on the veranda.

I'm not giving up milk. I put it half and half with my coffee. I make yogurt out of Organic Valley's grass fed whole milk. I'm in my mid 80s and still have all my teeth, including wisdom. I don't have osteoporosis. I eat a little bit of Amish Harvarti cheese every day for a snack. I recently started having problems with the radial nerve in my left arm, but I doubt that milk has anything to do with that. I sorta follow the Keto diet - not much on fasting, but cut way back on bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, sweets, etc.

I used to eat oats and whole grain breads and stuff. Actually my diet pre pre-diabetes was moderate, and I hardly ever drink sugary drinks, my weight always normal (I ate lots of bananas and sweet Hispanic breads were my weakness). My family from mom has lots of DM; I guess my genes were gaining the battle. Back to oats and grains, my glucometer disagrees with them. They raise my BG higher than my allowance of post prandial140 mg/dl. However, most days it is lower than that. I am a nurse, and I know every body is different in the way we process foods and that genes can control our physiology/biology, if allowed. What is friendly for one it is not so for somebody else. However, most of us in a keto life style agree with me in the oats and grains and also legumes avoidance; I eat beans and lentils occasionally without an issue; always watching my portions and activity. Keep up the good work of teaching; most drs do not teach, only prescribe.

Check the end of the video, I go over some great diet plan options. The idea is if you are healthy and in good shape you can eat anything, but if you are pre-diabetic or worse you have to be more strict. Good luck!
If possible, we would appreciate a quick rating (hopefully good), as it makes a HUGE difference!

I try to balance my food intake and the rare, occasional deliberate fun food. It works for me. I think it is so important to be familiar with our own body and its reactions. Videos like this are helpful because it gives us an increased understanding of our physiology.

This is good advise for starters. Best advice I can offer is to use your meter to see how your body reacts to foods. Doc, can you interview Dennis from Beat Diabetes? I think your listeners would benefit. I avoid seed oils and use butter. And I use an airfryer vs frying in oil, if I need to use an oil I choose evoo. Pink salt is so good in grilled meat.

It's all so much easier, just get a blood sugar meter and test your foods after 60-90 min, if that food spikes your sugar excessively don't eat it, if the food doesn't spike it eat it. Whole fruits and grains will make it spike also.

Caught just a small bit below - video covers much more plus what TO EAT:
    1) no fat free packaged / processed foods - high glycemic over 75 glycemic index which spikes your blood sugar.
    2) condiments, sauces and dressings with sugars
    3) fruits that aren't dark berries
    4) candy, candy bars
    5) fruit and sugar flavored yogurts
    6) breakfast cereals - even low sugar cereals tend to be over 50 glycemic index
    7) breakfast spreads and jams
    8) animal fat
    9) fried foods and meats
    10) trans fats like margarines
    11) processed meats - waste meat processed with sugars and chemicals
    12) trans fats
    13) omega 6 fats
    14) nutrition and fiber free food - potato chips, fried potato snacks, chip like snacks (Cheetos, Doritos, etc)
    15) sugary drinks, even skim milk, store bought pasteurized fruit juices and fruit smoothies, although fresh made at home juices and smoothies can be much better
    16) diet soda. CARBONATED WATER ALONE isn't bad for you, sodas with phosphates and other added ingredients aren't okay.
    17) alcohol especially if already prediabetic
    18) high fructose corn syrup, foods and drinks with added sugars
    19) fast food
    Instead:
    - natural whole foods
    - no store bought processes foods
    - whole grain
    - intermittent fasting - HUGE BENEFITS FOR EVERYONE INCLUDING TYPE 2 DIABETES. It's one of the best things you can do but companies can't make money off it so Big Agriculture, Big Food and Big Pharma never mention it.

One thing that helps.. grow a garden. When you have good tasting produce - you eat it! You are sure of the source and what goes into growing it. You had to do some exercise to obtain it, and got sone sunshine, also. Gardening is great for a good mood, so you won’t be eating to lift your mood.

Whenever I hear of studies done to determine what foods are best for diabetics I am very very very sceptical
I prefer to have my glucometer tell me what foods will spike my glucose.
I don't trust the glycemic index.
For the most part I like your food list however I have an issue with fruits, if you check with your glucometer most fruits will spike your glucose very high, bananas are among the worse I know I've tested it.
    Thanks
