    I live in Abu Dhabi! Where it is hot and humid all around the year, I myself use retinol with 1% serum each other night. My skin is glowing, healthy, blemish-free and I smother my skin with spf 50 all day-long.
    Retinol away my lovely ladies, if retinol is surviving the middle east summer weather, I think it will be ok to use it anywhere else ♥️🤗

      @@sarahnoked3143 I started using retinol since 2015 with small percentage. If you’re new to the retinol game, I’d suggest Rexsol retinol and AHA night sleeping mask… Amazing! You wake up to a brand new skin. Use it each other night or 3 times a week. If you’re more into serums and beginner to the retinol game, Advanced Clinicals retinol serum. Cheap and cheerful and does amazing job. If you have grown an immune system to a higher percentage of retinol (which I am now) I am currently using the ordinary 1% retinol with squaline oil each other night. It is a strong fellow so do not use it with any other actives. Avoid applying it on the neck and the hands. Apply it on the face avoiding the eye area and if you have sensitive skin, avoid the nosalabial fold area. I apologize for the grammatical mistakes and typos as English isn’t my first language.

    Dr Shereen I'd like to see you do a deep dive on antioxidants in skincare and whether they are really helpful or if it's just all hypothetical. I would especially like to know if they are useful when they are built into sunscreens, because dermatologists seem to disagree on this. Some say they are beneficial and others say not because sunscreens are designed to sit on top of the skin by forming a film which means the added antioxidants can't really do much since they won't absorb into the stratum corneum. Thanks.

    Dear Shereene, I can safely say as a South European living for an extended time per year in North Europe but still being regulatly and each time for a considerable amount of time in South Europe every year that my skin reacts to retinol differently in those two climates. I use retinol for almost 2 years now, apply it at night and i always wear 50 spf sunscreen during the day. I don't have melasma or similar issues, sensitive or very fair skin. And yes, the skin DOES get more photosensitive. I have observed it over a long period of time. In Southern Europe I can use retinol only once a week or so. In Northern E every second evening.

    I've been using a petrolatum based product as an "eye & neck cream," then applying my retinal all over. It's working great! I've been doing the same with vitamin c in the morning, which has also been helpful.

    I would love to see a video on adapalene! There seems to be lots of misinformation out there about it. I have used Differin for like 20 years now, starting for acne. Couldn't tolerate rx retinol. I have had a lot of people tell me it does nothing for aging and I should to a more expensive (and irritating, for me) retinoid. I don't see the point because it is cheap, and from my personal experience, does work for anti-aging.

    • @karatalksaboutstuff7333
      @karatalksaboutstuff7333 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm not an expert, but I did once go way too deep down this exact rabbit hole on the internet.
      I found only one small study examining collagen-building effects of adapalene, and I do remember it looked promising. I think the main issue here is NOT that adapalene has been shown to be UNABLE to slow signs of aging, but it's just that there aren't any robust studies supporting it (AFAIK).
      I do vaguely recall seeing that adapalene has a slightly different mechanism of action than retinoids (I think it binds to either a smaller number of or altogether different receptors). This might be why people are hesitant to stand behind adapalene as an all-purpose retinoid.

    • @davidle3567
      @davidle3567 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Adapalene doesn't have the data, so until more studies are done, it won't stack up against tretinoin and tazarotene for anti-aging. (That's why it's only FDA approved for acne, while the other two are also approved for wrinkles and fine lines.)

    Dear Shereene! I didn't know this was a myth! But I do prefer to not use them during the summer! Let me explain: I live in Norway. Most of the year, we have no natural sunlight except for very few hours. Vitamin D deficiencies are horrible and all, but the most noticeable after years of living in the cold north: my skin has become photo sensitive. During the summer, we suddenly get sunlight for more hours and the sun is a lot stronger. So I find myself applying SPF 50 or more just to keep my skin from freaking out, so my skin is also happier during the summer when I cut on my retinols and AHA, etc. I know you can technically use it! But whether that is adviceable, hmm. I personally prefer to use my retinoids during the winter, when sun comes out 2 hours and then it's by-bye. I've used retinoids during the sunny summer, after months of darkness and I got badly sunburnt, no matter how careful I was with my SPF. Thank you for your videos! I love each one of them.

    Are the cheaper retinols (Ordinary for example) as good as the expensive ones? It's so confusing to think that one that costs $8 can give similar results as one that's $98. I'm sure there are differences, but as far as helping age/sun spots and firming skin, are the cheaper brands really going to give similar results?

      @@angieangelopoulou1196 Go look at the retinol and vitamin c videos of Dr. Shereen. im not sure if theres "a proven study" about vitamin c improving retinol because i dont think that's how it works. but she has said to use vitamin c in the day to boost the efficacy of your sunscreen. and retinol/retinoids at night because it breaks down fast in the day. she also shared her night time skincare routine... and she doesnt put on vitamin c at night, only during her daytime routine. so there.

    Very informative video. I have been using the L’Oreal Retinol serum for about six months now and have tolerated it very well (no peeling, redness, whatsoever..) Does this mean it is not working and I need to “upgrade” to prescription strength? 🤔

      Hello Susanne,
      I was using this serum(they sell it in 0,2% concentration in Italy), then I tried their cream with retinol from the same line(no% listed!) which surprisingly was really irritating! I was literally flaking on my cheeks, I’ve got the breakouts. I didn’t expect it considering how well I tolerated serum. After 2 months on this cream I tried Paulas Choice, concentration 1% which felt much weaker. No idea 🤷‍♀️

    I know that what I am about to suggest has nothing to do with retinol. But it does have to do with appearance. Dr. Idriss, can you please learn how to do lip lifts?
    I know, you are not a plastic surgeon, but you do Moh's surgery I imagine and so much of it is has some of the basic principals from which to learn the more nuanced ones needed to address a lip lift.
    But I want you to design a much better technique for incision placement, patient selection versus which technique to employ and different skin anchoring position, where to and how deeply to undermine, and a completely different set of templates for skin excision based on factors like nasolabial angle (mostly this because currently, this is not being accounted for).
    So if you get bored, I will try some way to show what I have in mind. This is why I asked one of my first questions about undermining, how deeply can it be done so that it lifts off the muscle fascia but does not harm nerves and keeps vessels intact.
    I am trying to find some sort of material that can mimic skin so I can use it to show where the skin needs to be trimmed and moved. Right now, some (too often) surgeons excise too much skin laterally and form the closure by putting too much tension on the sides of the nose, which widen the nares. The skin edges of that excised area should be well approximated if anchor placement corresponds to the width of the excised skin - so no need to put tension on the sides of the nose.
    Also, I know the skin covering the nasal septum can be separated from the septum (carefully) because I have seen that it is done. I just think the skin really needs to be anchored higher at the hard septum, not at the nasal base. Nor, should it be anchored on the nasal floor because it only worsens the nasolabial angle (makes it more acute).
    Well again, if one day you find you are interested in pursuing another aspect of appearance, the lips. I hope you do that, I think with your enthusiasm and attention to details, you would be one to do a good job finding better techniques for lip lifts.

    Hi Dr Shreene! Do you think Tretinoin 0.1% prescription helps with hollowness under the eyes? Or do you think it's not strong enough and i will need filler/fat transfer instead? i only just turned 30 but i had hollowness undereyes from using Latisse for a year. I quit it, and now i'm trying to add collagen/fat back into that hollow part of my under eyes with Tretinoin. I know it's effective for finelines and hyperpigmentation but i don't know if it's effective for hollow under eyes/loss of volume. What do you think?

    I'm one of those lucky soul who can tolerate Tretinoin (0.05%) on my undereye and eyelids. My doc told me to stay away from those areas. However one day, out of curiosity, I put it there (I use sandwich method) and nothing happened. No irritation no nothing to this day so I've been using it all over my face every two days since then. It has been 2 years and no slight wrinkle around my eye area.

    Your tip on less is more and using Vaseline with avene baume really healed my skin this winter! I have one question about AHA’s though. You say max 4 times a week, but when I use the ordinary a lactic acid serum daily, my mild rosacea decreases and almost disappears. As soon as I try to give my skin a break for two-three days it starts to reverse. If my skin inflammation decreases and overall skin health seem good, is it bad that I use it daily/or almost every day? It would be nice if you could make a video about using acids for treatment purposes😊
