The best thing I ever did in the midst of clinical depression and unmedicated ADHD was start taking more care of my skin as I am unable to maintain any semblance of a routine. I got a Costco of dedicated face-only wash cloths, rolled them and put them in a basket like I saw at a fancy spa. The more visually appealing and present, the more likely I was to use a cleanser and if I couldn't shower, at least keep my face and neck clean. Before anyone comes for me about what to do, I am not asking for advice. I do not want advice. With healthier skin I have fewer episodes of skin picking. Thanks!
@@0h0h0h0 Thank you! I am doing a lot better thanks to consistent therapy and medication that helps my executive function, well, function. I also recognize dry, wet, dry is a tough transition for me. Learning what is tough helps me plan around what is needed.
OMG I've been an obsessive picker for years and years. I found out last year that I'm autistic and the connections I've made since then between my obsessive skin picking/popping and other things like pulling at eyelashes and eyebrows and picking at/biting my cuticles/the skin round my finger nails has been a revelation. Obviously I'm not suggesting that those behaviours are something people should self-diagnose on as clearly they're a tiny element of a huge range of other symptoms. I'm just saying that for me, I've had to work really hard to stop myself really going at my skin and it's made such a positive difference to my skin. When I'm stressed I've gone in so hard at my skin that it's been so red and painful and I've pulled out basically all my eyelashes. Understanding why I do this has helped me figure out how to soothe myself and mostly avoid those picky behaviours. Following your recommendations has really helped my skin, as well as diet improvements and alternative soothing/distraction techniques to stop me picking. I'm still struggling with biting the skin around my fingers but it's got better as my nails are now really strong so I feel like I'm winning the battle slowly.
Also that skin colour thing - so true. I've seen so much talk about how the skincare and makeup industries have failed darker skintones, which they absolutely have. But I have such pale Celtic skin that until I could afford super expensive makeup I looked orange from the lightest one and NOTHING seems to understand redness. I'm told 'oh but your cheeks look so nice' and want to explain that's only for a moment and the rest of the time I'm beetroot for doing the slightest exercise or if I'm embarrassed or hot, or 'vampiric' when cold. I don't show my body at all because literally all scratches/bruises/cuts show for months on end at least, if they don't scar which they do super easily on my skin, so that I am literally never free from some horribly ugly mark. Ingrown hairs look red and horrible. I had a massage recently with a Thai lady. She was so lovely this is no criticism of her at all, but despite her many years working in the UK, my skin was so pale that she was shocked at how red it went when she touched it and worried she'd hurt me, and said I was paler than she'd ever seen. I grew up mocked (in a tiny provincial English infant school) for how pale and easily reddened my skin was. I have loved Dr Idriss' recommendations for skin that reddens.
If you're open to advice/ suggestions: I've found that using a cuticle tool helps me do less damage - biting and picking (for me) leads to tears and bleeding) but using something precise means I (mostly!) just get the dead skin off. I've also found that using an exfoliant around my cuticles makes them softer and I can't stim pick as much :)
Yes same!! I've struggled with this problem since 12. I'm 35 now. I know and have tried every every topical on the market for keeping pores "clear", but I am not versed in the in-office treatments that can help reduce size, and it's hard to get good information.

Hey Dr Shereene....I discovered your videos this summer and really enjoy them, I've definitely learned a thing or ten from the advice you've provided and have seen great improvements in my skin. One thing I've noticed in watching your videos is when you show pictures of skin conditions, it's more often than not on white skin. As a Black woman, I find it pretty hard to know what something should look like on my skin because most of the time medical books, blogs, websites, etc will always present the issue on white skin, when these things could look quite different on Black or darker toned skin. This is especially triggering when a few years ago my mom developed an infection on her arm from a double bypass surgery, the booklet the hospital gave us to reference what a 'healthy healing incision' should look like was only on white arms. I could not tell at all whether my mom's incision was okay or not by looking at her arm and the booklet, but based on gut instinct of feeling something wasn't right, i called the nurse and next day we found out she had developed a serious infection at the incision. This is all to say that it would be great to see a spectrum of skin colours in your videos as well please, to help some of us who aren't white skinned be able to identify what these conditions look like on our darker skin colours. Thank you :)
Please do an in depth video about seborrheic dermatitis like you did for rosacea 🥹 I know you’ve mentioned ketoconazole, but what about skin care? Products to avoid? Best exfoliators and moisturizers that won’t cause flare ups???
When my dermatologist is an inch away from my face, staring at my skin, I of course am an inch from her face staring at her skin, and she has astonishing pores. Sometimes I think - "I should have stayed out of the sun more..." This is all good advice.
Here I was, thinking whiteheads were blackheads that appeared white on deep dark skin like mine. I learn something new everytime I watch your videos - thank you!❤
I’ve struggled with clogged pores for a while, and it’s great to get advice straight from a dermatologist. Alongside a simple skincare routine, I’ve also added a few supplements I found in a book called Secret Supplements that turn you into a Superhuman. Zinc has been a game-changer for my skin-it’s helped keep breakouts down and my pores clear.
Right! It's also beneficial directly on skin. I tend to get blackheads and use exfoliants and retinol, however I've started using baby diaper cream with zinc as a mask (dr Idriss advice, as always, works👌) When for example taking a bath, leave it on for awhile, then wipe excessives off and clean with usual cleansing products. It really clears out the pores, and also calms skin down. It has made a significant difference on my skin and pores. Zinc really is powerful and good for the skin!
I have enlarged pores along my nose. If I squeeze, little white worms come out. My skin is great for age 66, I've always taken care of my skin since age 19. I hate my T zone. I don't pick but I would love a solution. Love your content!
Large pores have been my biggest skin concern since I was a teen. Tried everything from oil cleansing to pore strips. Saw some improvement with Paula's Choice BHA. Now using Remedy for Pores, love it

Organic shea butter and castor oil are your best friends. For your face - organic oils - olive, avocado... Please do avoid lanolin, petroleum products such as vaseline ( carcinogenic), and anything not organic. Lead free glass versus anything plastic. And, MMR vaccine - best after 2 years of age and in 3 separate shots, if needed. These are suggestions, not medical advice. You are the best advocate for your baby. Best Wishes !
It's more effective to oil the skin from within to avoid strechmarks. But it is of course good to put som lotion on the outside too. I was quite big at the end of my pregnancy, but i have zero strechmarks 😊. Take omega 3 every day. It's good for the brain too. The brain consists of a lot of fatty acids, and a big part of that is omega 3. When you're pregnant you are also growing a brain inside you. Omega 7s are good for dry mucuos membrane, like eyes and the private parts. You also need some omega 6, but that you get enough of from the things you already eat, and it is important to not flip the balance between omega 3 and 6.
Thank you so much for your incredibly helpful videos! Following your advice has greatly improved my skin. Could you consider making a video on ponytail facelifts for people aged 35-45? I know your thoughts on facelifts, but I’ve experienced sagging and jowls forming, along with a discomfort like something is pulling my cheeks downward. When I was younger, my cheeks were very full despite being thin, but now at age 35, they don’t look very good-not only because of aging but also due to weight loss.
A huge thanks goes to you ♥️ this was much needed video. I have pores only on my nose so I will treat my nose differently from the rest of my face with the new instructions 🥰 THANK YOU.
This is exactly what I needed! I think I’ve finally found a proper routine to help my skin heal. I’ve dealt with very oily, dehydrated, acne prone skin since I was a teen. A year or so ago I found Neutrogena’s hydro boost line and found it did wonders to curb the excess oil! Now I’m going to try and clear out my pores since that’s the reason I struggle with acne. I’m going to add an exfoliating rice cleanser once a day, a BHA exfoliant once a day, and use a clay mask once-twice a week! Of course, I’m adding these in slowly to make sure my skin tolerates all the change okay. Thank you so much for your recommendation’s!❤

Thank you so much for all of these videos! I've been able to build my own skincare regimen thanks to you and seeing results! Here's my vote for in-office treatments! 🙌
Interesting dive. Wish i'd known this 50+ years ago when BuffPuffs were THE answer to spotty skin. 😢 Using a low ℅ salicylic cleanser as a 2 min treatment mask once a week when washing my face works well for my crabby sensitive skin. The secret seems to be how long its left on/ complete removal and the quality of the tlc given to my skin in the following days. (Low, slow, gentle, simple and consistent.)
For being a combination skin girly adding a face oil actually decreased my natural oil production and simultaneously solved my acne and dry areas. My skin was over producing sebum because my skin was dehydrated and my moisture barrier was shot from living in North Dakota. So by adding a face oil as the last step I was sealing in all the hydration and moisture and replacing my compromised moisture barrier with an occlusive.
I've used retinal for years. I have recently found adding a prescription estriol cream to my routine helps the appearance of pores on my aging face (I also have rosacea).
Thank you so much Dr Idriss! You're always sooo informative and make it so that we can understand more about our skin and the things we should do. I've always had blackheads on my nose. And this is always one of my problems. I'm guilty of the pore strips which I do once in a blue moon 😂 I only finally got it reduced after I started doing double cleansing (using skin1004 oil cleanser and foam). I'm glad to hear you say it could work to unclog pores. It validates I'm on the right track. I have a question: I live in a humid country in Asia Philippines and you mentioned just cleaning my face with water in the morning. What skin care products can I use after, then? Because I can still feel the skin care from the night before, I'm afraid of putting too much or too little that will cause clogging of pores again.
I love your videos ❤ your my biggest inspiration, I'm in the UK and the things are very different here when it comes to learning. I want to learn all things skin so I can help others with facts not fiction. X
I would love to see a video reviewing sustainable brands and products. Please include some products in glass bottles. I look around and all I see are plastic containers
Very helpful information! I’ve struggled with sebaceous filaments most of my life (50 years so far)on my nose. It also seems to be an oil factory. I’ve used the Kate Somerville sulphur cleanser as a mask (mostly on my nose) after watching a previous video of yours on this subject and it’s been working fairly well; however, I would love to see a video on the in-office treatments available!
You look fabulous! I hope whatever you were in Boston for went well! I’m with many of the other commenters and would love a tutorial on this make up look. It’s such an elegant look on you!
Are minis available to buy? With very uniquely sensitive skin, and LOTS of $$$$ spent on skincare products over the years, I need to try products before I buy.
My approach I’ve noticed that works for me is using my sonic cleansing brush on my second main cleanse and I use my 14% glycolic acid serum often and I supplement the clarity with my 9% salicylic from Paula’s Choice and I always hydrate and moisturize well. My skin loves it. I have many brightening serums and a retinal on the side.
I wash my face in the shower which allows me to flood rinse my face. Once I started doing that, I stopped getting little breakouts at my hairline and at my lower back jaw.
Great info as usual, really interested in what office treatments are the best; also would love a video for teenagers( picking, scars, teaching them basics of good skincare, all my Grandchildren are breaking out) ❤😃👍🇨🇦
I heard, that retinol may cause receding hairline/eyelashes/eyebrows. On the other hand, some dermatologists recommend applying it to the balding spots. It’s kinda confusing, so I would like to know your opinion, Dr. Idriss. Thank you
Thank you for this! What about spot treatments? There are so many options and I get overwhelmed/ confused. Could you do a video breaking down the different types and which you recommend? Thanks!
I would love to hear about the in office treatments for the appearance of larger pores, and overall cleaning/care. I’m curious about the treatments for acne scarring as well…I have to search and see if there is already a video on this.
I am rosacea prone, flush very easily, very oily, dehydrated etc. I do most of this already and still suffer, but my questions are: I use tretinoin instead of retinol… is that better/worse? I use metronidazole before La Roche Posay matte moisturizer in the morning. I have severe dry eye as well and worry the retinol/tretinoin could be making that worse. Is there something I am missing? Niacinamide and glycolic pads are probably the two favorite things I use.
Regarding alternatives to stinky sulfur masks, I've had success with Innbeauty's pimple paste (also called drying paste). It contains sulfur and other ingredients so it has a slight smell but not overly eggy. I leave it on over night and after using it for about 2 months, my extremely acne-prone skin has pretty much cleared up.
Thank you for fitting us Nerds into your travel schedule. I hope you have set aside for some fun while you're in Boston. It is one of my favorite cities! 💜🩷💜
I spent my teen and 20's fighting what I thought was black heads. Once the truth started becoming more accessible, I could switch to SF. Now found COSRX BHA and used it for couple of years twice a week and then using their AHA and BHA toner daily. Works like a treat. I still end up with some tiny black spots, however soon much less visible and that's without any crazy digging in my skin!
I just made the most delicious natural exfoliating cream : Zest lemon Sugar Coconut oil I just made a little bit that fit in a small tea cup… zested about 1/2 tsp of lemon, squeezed a little of the juice, teaspoon of sugar, tablespoon of virgin coconut oil, mixed with chopstick. Massaged all over my face & hands. Rinsed with warm washcloth. My skin feels so soft & silky 🍋💗🍋

Definitely very useful. I appreciate your videos. Maybe sometime in the future you can make video about men skin care, specially for those who have beard and mustaches. Thank you!

I didn't even need to wait for the video to get a second in before clicking Like because you know it's gonna be good with Dr. Idriss
Thank you for this video and wealth of information. I love your content and am constantly learning for the better ❤
A huge thanks goes to you ♥️ this was much needed video. I have pores only on my nose so I will treat my nose differently from the rest of my face with the new instructions 🥰 THANK YOU.
Your eyes look amazing with the lighting
Yes please make a video about in office procedures 🙏
Thank you for this in depth video Dr. Idriss! You look especially nice too, I cant take my eyes off yours here!
Thank you for this wealth of information, great tips. I learn something new anytime I watch your vids.
You always look beautiful, today you look even more beautiful, how is that even possible?! 🥰
I agree, I’m not sure how much info I actually took in because I was so mesmerised by her.
She gets more beautiful with time
Its nuts
She's using a filter in this one. I don't know if it's effecting how she looks or just the lighting
@@therabbithat she often says shes not using a filter but is using lighting so i assumed this one was no filter
Either way she looks amazing
& idk if she'd look like that regardless or it's because of all the things she does for skincare
I see shes wearing a small brown liner on her lid that goes up so slight at the outer eye. Makes green eyes mesmerizing.
Thank you so much for all of these videos! I've been able to build my own skincare regimen thanks to you and seeing results! Here's my vote for in-office treatments! 🙌
She really went out and bought products while she was traveling just to show them in this video. 😍
Omg BUFFPUFFS 😅I can’t believe I ever used one! Ouch!
@PSFlyers55 right!? Big ouch! Just about scoured my face off. Walked around like a red, aching tomato for weeks as i recall. Only used it once too.
My brother used them in high school. He rubbed his face red and raw.
Oh my gosh buff puffs! My mum always had them in the bathroom drawer.
Would love to see a video on in office treatments and or procedures for skin pore maintenance or improvement.
I’ve been watching you now for years so have learned so much. Thank you for your channel here!
Can you do tutorial on your make up in this video. It looks amazing on you. Love all your videos ❤
Thank you for all the information. I’m loving your products!
My husband nose is so oily. I just pinch it and every pore has little white stringers emerge. I'll check the Kate Somerville cleanser 👍
Yes, please with a video about in office treatments! Would you include treatments for those that have rosacea? Thanks in advance!
Would love a tutorial on your eye makeup! Always looks great
Thank you Dr Idriss you explained this so well. ❤
🙌❤️❤️❤️
Love your look in this. Love the makeup and the sweater. ❤
Great information! Thank you, Dr. Idriss! 💜💜💜
Lil nerd here! Love your content Dr. Idriss!! _< Thank you for being so informative & fun in each video!!
Dr. Shereene you're amazing ❤ i love watching your videos. I'm a new esthetician and I watch all your videos to learn more
Can you do a video on how to treat cysts at home? It would be very helpful to know how to treat cysts properly.
This was incredible thank you! Could I ask advice on how often and what rotation we should be using these product?
I have a quick ques, will I be able to use glycolic acid and retinol at the same time? Awesome video as always, Dr. Idriss!!❤❤❤
I wash my face in the shower which allows me to flood rinse my face. Once I started doing that, I stopped getting little breakouts at my hairline and at my lower back jaw.
Please talk about the treatments in your next video!! 😍☺️
Idriss.
Thank you
Yes, opinion please!
This color looks amazing on you !!!!very luxury and expensive look !
Maybe it is expensive and luxury!
Making note! There is an acne scarring video on my channel 🙌
Love your sweater!! Details?? Thank you for your videos❤
Niacinamide and glycolic pads are probably the two favorite things I use.
just bought the Innisfree Clay mask while traveling through Singapore at Innisfree shop... helped the over humidity...
Love your videos! Yes, please make a video about in office treatments and about the under eye area. Thanks!!
Making note!
THANK YOU lovely Dr Idriss!!!!!
You nail polish matches your packaging ❤
Yes in office visit please. Also some videos on pregnancy pretty pretty please.
Sulfur has been known for decades to be an acne treatment. It is in many acne medicines or acne makeup.
Thank you for fitting us Nerds into your travel schedule. I hope you have set aside for some fun while you're in Boston. It is one of my favorite cities! 💜🩷💜
What products would you recommend for those of us who have acne-prone but dry (not dehydrated - dry) skin?
🙋🏼♀️ over here wondering this also
for exfoliation: lactic acid can help.
There are few things stranger to see than someone who smiles without squinting their eyes
what are your thoughts on effaclar serum? how much would you use it? loved this video, as always!
thank you so much
I kindly request this makeup tutorial 😅 or products. It looks gorgeous today ❤
Thanks for the video! My n.1 problem is pores :c
I got distracted halfway through the video when I realized your nails are the same color has your skincare products 😂💜😍
I'm using Remedy for Pore Size... it's helped a ton
I just made the most delicious natural exfoliating cream :
Zest lemon
Sugar
Coconut oil
I just made a little bit that fit in a small tea cup… zested about 1/2 tsp of lemon, squeezed a little of the juice, teaspoon of sugar, tablespoon of virgin coconut oil, mixed with chopstick. Massaged all over my face & hands. Rinsed with warm washcloth. My skin feels so soft & silky 🍋💗🍋
Thanks Dr, Shereene for the informative videos. Keen to try out your product however it is not yet available in Sephora Malaysia. Looking forward. ❤
Could you please talk about NAD and NMN? is that how people stay young? Do you do it? What is it, side effects? Etc?
Thanks Idriss for this interesting video!
🙌🙌🙌
Can you do a video on dark circles? Not how to cover them, but how to improve them. Mine are partly hereditary/ethnic, and partly due to poor exercise, due to chronic conditions.
Definitely very useful. I appreciate your videos. Maybe sometime in the future you can make video about men skin care, specially for those who have beard and mustaches. Thank you!
Thanks for making this video Dr. Idriss
What light are you using? Looks so good!
Love the makeup today. Less pink-eye shadow than usual. Much better :) Hugs from Belgium.
Can you do a make up video? Your makeup is gorgeous
Great tips. Do lasers help with enlarged pores?
Great question! I thought skin peels helped minimise the appearance of pores too?
Omg I NEED to know what your lipstick is in this video. Please please please 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Can you please do an in-depth on how alcohol is bad for skin?
Thankyou, as always for such informative video! Can we use major fade along side retinoid or under makeup
Ps. the beauty industry can be a powerful advocate for healing people from a mental standpoint as well...I am happy to see women happier as long as the use it for the right reasons- as i assume are most...
Please make a video on medical devices that are available in the market! ❤
First, I love you Shereene! Would love to know your thoughs on Remedy for Pores. I bought it and it's helped but I don't know if you approve. Also, how long should I use it for? Love from Beirut
