I'm so glad you have a channel, Dr. Idriss. I have stopped watching other skincare channels because i want my information to come from someone who is knowledgeable..... like a dermatologist!! My skin has suffered from the misinformation that I've received from some of these channels. Not anymore!!!!
This is a whole gem of information. Dr. Idriss literally summarized months of my research digging on the internet preparing for my skincare routine and added even more to it. She’s literally an angel.
Because of city pollution and strong sunlight, my skin became dull and got dark spots even though I tried many DIY remedies. My colleague suggested trying littleextera rice berry face serum. It gave my skin so fresh moisture and a good mix of black rice water and vitamin C, which made my complexion better. In a few weeks, the dark spots began to fade, and my skin became bright and even. The soothing formula was ideal for my sensitive skin and helped calm irritation from pollution. Now, each morning I see a new glow in the mirror, all thanks to this serum restoring my skin's natural glow.
Based on my experience, this riceberry serum is highly effective on my skin. It absorbs quickly and avoids making the skin oily. It offers instant brightness to my skin. Just be sure to use sunscreen after using vitamin c serum.
This channel is da bomb. Finally saw a cosmetic dermatologist for the first time - they had nothing to change about my skincare routine/products and I credit that to you. LESS IS MORE.
You’re wonderful - thank you! Started to take care of my skin at 69 (yikes - I know!) and at 73 it’s better than it’s ever been albeit aging. You’re advice has been on point for me and you deliver it in such a wonderfully personable way. Again, thanks!
I started at 50 and it's never too late. It is probably the only thing that I have been fully committed to for over 2 years. I just went on a cruise and my skincare had its own bag.

My daughter visited last week & said my skin is GLOWING. ❤❤❤
Thank u for this subject! There are too many YT channels that tout actives but do not explain how to safely incorporate it in a routine. So much appreciate to you for your guidance!
the biggest issue with combining actives is that skincare brands have become obsessed with releasing products with high percentage actives, when in reality you dont even need that high of a percentage. a perfect example of this is the paula's choice 20% niacinamide, when all studies have been done with 3-5% niacinamide. (and all that costing like 50 euro's??)
That's a fair point... but just because there is not a study analyzing those % doesn't mean those % are not effective, and the other way around. It's just that there's no testing. Also there will always be someone potentially irritable at any %.
Thank you so much. I'm 40 years young and I've truely started my skincare Routine in the month when I turned 40.😢 Formerly I hated using creams and sunscreen. Worse the moisturizers whith that oily residue on the face. 🤢 But I am truely happy that I duscovered korean skincare. My skin loves it esoecially korean sunscreens, they are the best. And your channel helos me to understand what my skin needs and wants. I already was combining every morning niacinamide with vitamin C. But I was insecure till now if I shouldn't. Thank you. I have acne free skin finally , no post inflammatory pigmentation and most likely to age gracefully by using the things you have suggested . I have also stopped buying fancy creams /lotions/ serums / masks and have replaced them ALL by just two products… Tretinoin and glycolic acid … and BOOM 💥 i am happy with my skin . Soon going to incorporate salicylic acid also to address my pores .
Love your videos. I am an esthetician and love skincare. I love combining mandelic and vitamin c. It has helped my hyperpigmentaion so much. I use during the day, I also did in the evening aha glycolic with 2% hq for only 3 months and my skin really looks great! I have always also done vitamin a and cycle between retinol, retinoid, retinyl propionate
hey doc, can we use niacinamide and retinol together? I just applied a 10% niacinamide, let it dry out, and then applied a 0.15% encapsulated retinol in my PM routine, is this okay to do? also, I am SO GRATEFUL to you for keeping us safe from the dark sides of the skincare industry! your video on HA was LIFE CHANGING, you told me who the culprit was in my unusual acne flare up despite (seemingly) doing everything right! LOVE YOU!
Ah. This is what I was looking for. I have no problem combining Tret and AHA (Alpha H Liquid Gold) on the same night and the DERISION I have received about this. THANK YOU 🙏
oooh! she gives the BP and retinol routine that my derm recommended when i had reeeally bad hormonal and stress-induced acne. my derm told me to spread it out and apply it on nights that i am not applying my tret. i have quit using BP now since my skin is better than before. i am just maintaining the tret
One of my favourite combinations are azelaic acid and vitamin A. I use 20% azelaic and 0.1 retinal at the moment. I have a rolling skincare routine, where I alternate this combo with a 10% niacinamide plus 2% BHA (yeah, I tried going lower with niacinamide, my oils only calm down with the higher one). I alternate the two days, and sometimes add a third day of rest/calm if needed (either with just minimal hydration, or with some barrier strengthening serum). Once a week or so I use the blood peel from the Ordinary, and I skip other actives on that day too. If I add vitamin C (which I have a love/hate relationship with), I'd add it in the morning only.
This is what I’m trying to do. Been on tret 0.05 for 8 months, will be adding in azelaic acid shortly. And then may use glycolic 1 or 2 times a week to exfoliate. How is your skin?
@@thatsydvicious I would start with azelaid acid on its own for a month or two before your skin adjusts. Then, once you can tolerate it well, start mixing it with retinoids. My skin is quite well, thank you for asking. My skincare routine is likely too brutal for 95% of people, but my skin is very oily all over, so it works fine for me.
@@berlineczka thanks for the response! I use tret every other day, so I'm hoping I can use the azelaic acid on the opposite days and see how that goes 🤞
@@berlineczka mine is also brutal but my skin is not sensitive at all. I have no issues with acne. I use retinal every night and vi c every morning. I use Niacinamide every night. I also use tranexamic, kojic and azelaic acid day and night. Arbutin day and night along with Argereline and Matrixyl oh and centella.i exfoliate twice a week. I use Lactic normally but I will use glycolic every 4th time.
Dr Idriss thanks for explaining this so well. I love watching your videos as they are clear and concise. Especially loved the ignore the man on the bed 😂❤️
I think a lot of the challenge is that these "basic" cleansers, moisturizers, and sunscreens, have actives in them, but they're hidden in the "inactive" ingredients list. The basic Eucerin Moisturizing Sunscreen has Lactic Acid in it! I don't want that in my sunscreen, I wanna use it at night where it's not as big a deal if it makes my skin more sun sensitive! I spend way too long just reading ingredient lists at Walgreens just to leave with nothing :(
@@kategolden8840 It is also a humectant at low levels. Fructose, Glycine , Inositol, Lactic Acid, Niacinamide, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Lactate, Sodium PCA and Urea combined at EXTREMELY low levels are added to many cosmetics via a humectant mixture sold under the brand name LACTIL®
Im so glad that I found ur channel! It is always more secure to listen to a professional like u when comes to skincare. U are so cheerful, straight to the point, & ur content is not difficult to understand. Thank you so much for making all these videos ❤
Dr. Idriss,Thank you for this. You made it so clear and easy to understand. I was drawn to your channel because of how beautiful and flawless your skin is, and I thought to myself that you're a living example. If I want to learn anything about beautiful skin, I'd better listen to you lol.
I would love to hear about copper peptides with other actives. I’ve been using them with AHAs and Retinoids, but avoiding at the same time as l-ascorbic acid
Thanks. I emailed DRMTLGY, as their needleless serum has copper peptides and they said it was fine with anything other than vitamin C. That’s why I have been using with. However, I don’t put one on top of the other. I usually have some type of barrier between the two.
I so appreciate and thank you for your knowledge regarding all facets of skincare and what's good and damaging for us individuals who ( let's confess) are pretty ignorant when it comes to choosing a skin care product and using it effectively for what it was manufactured to do in benefitting our skin. You make it easy to understand! Much appreciate your weekly vlogs. Keep em coming and we'll keep watching!
@@delsanayamorgan909I’ve tried Cosrx niacinamide and didn’t really like it. Currently trying Natrium Products and really loving it. 30 and having skin issues but just in a few days my skin is glowing !!
god, thank you. I was just venting today that everyone seems laser-focused on the sensitive skin types, just saying 'don't' to combining & layering actives, instead of sharing any info on what can be!
13:44 - That's me. I just use everything lol. Benzoyl peroxide wash (twice a day), BHA (twice a day), glycolic AHA (night time), tretinoin (night time). I also apply everything to wet skin. Have for years without any issue at any point ever. Right now I'm pretty sure I'm going to add niacinamide, too (for the time being).
I love how you include women in their 50s and in menopause ages I am 60 years old and I have dry skin and one of my biggest problems. I thinks is puffy eyes due to Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Any chance you can any traduce or find ways of helping those who have thyroid issues thank you have a great day.
This is the BEST video on this subject to be honest. I have had the absolute worse cystic acne from trying out a retinol product from a unreliable company and my skin has constant breakouts of acne since. I’ve been using the la Roche acne line but haven’t seen much improvement. So! The last 4 days I have been using the Cerave Hydrating Cleanser, Olay Vitamin C Serum, and the Cerave Moisturizer and I can’t believe how a simple routine has improved my skin in such a short period of time! So my question to you! I just bought a cerave resurfacing retinol, Ordinary 5% AHA, and the Paula’s Choice 2% in hopes to marry them all together one day for absolute perfection. How long should I wait before introducing one of those at a time? 😫 I’m so impatient but don’t want to flare up my skin. Thanks so so much. ❤
Thank you so much for everyting you do. I look forward to Saturday moring each week because I know I always learn something new. It's the way you explain that makes it not only very informative but also easy to understand. 🌷😊
Dr. Idriss!! I’ve been watching your channel since the very beginning, and I finally have a question I’d love you to answer…! (Drum roll) 🥁🥁🥁😂 I’d like to know if the bottle size of an spf affects the efficacy and durability of the product in the case of a facial sunscreen. I never understood why the heck facial sunscreens come in a bottle that would last at most 2 weeks!!! I find it’s a waste of plastic and money to have to buy 24 bottles of sunscreen a year, only to cover the face. PLEASE, consider making 400 gr quality facial sunscreen on your own brand! (As an example, just please make a big bottle of a quality product!) Much love from Switzerland ! 🇨🇭
I'm sooooo glad this video came up today. I recently started using Cereve Vitamin C serum with La Roche Posay moisturizer which has niacinadmide and just as you described... they turned orange on my face. Anyone else experience this too?
Excellent, informative and you are sooo classy….soothing as well. Others bring in Pop Ups….totally a distraction from the great info and YOU! ❤ thank you! So refreshing…💫🥰💯🌹🦋
Great vid, as usual! The one combo I find conflicting info on is Copper Peptides & tretinoin. I’m not concerned about sensitivity as I have very robust skin. But some sources claim the retinoids will cancel out or “deactivate” the copper peptides. Other sources claim they’re compatible and fine to use together. Who to believe?!
@@ejbooks Yes but I’m committed to using Vitamin C via ascorbic acid in the mornings which cannot be used with copper peptides. I normally use peptides under my retinoid but the info available is conflicting on those containing copper. Some sources say it’s a myth that they cannot be combined. 🤷🏻♀️
Hi Dr Shereene this is a bit niche but could you consider recommending what you would do if ones sleep schedule is always switching between day shift and night shift? Would you switch the day and night time skin care schedules around or keep them the same?
i had a similar sleep schedule situation and i’d say you mostly wanna keep any actives you use where they are, but maybe switch around your moisturizers to use heavier stuff while you’re sleeping. I know at least some things like retinol lose efficacy when exposed to sunlight and obviously sunscreen won’t be useful at night
The only ones tied to the time of day are SPF, vitamin C, retinoids. SPF for obvious reasons, vitamin C to work actively as an antioxidant, and as well retinoids in general because they tend to break down and become ineffective by light - adapalene is notably much more photostable, though. Retinol was found to work just fine under SPF so you can use it in the day just fine. Another mention is mandelic acid, which becomes worthless by light.
I have the same dilemma because I work on night shift 3x a week. But I’ve tried to apply retinoids and hydroquinone on days that I’m sleeping all day before I go to work. I don’t wear sunscreen since I’m gonna be asleep but making sure my blackout window panel is down and my room is almost in total darkness. So far, it’s still have the same effect.
I’m a night shifter as well. I use my “daytime” routine when I’m waking up whether it be 9am or 5pm. I also always use my “night time” routine whether I’m going to sleep at midnight or 8am. Just make sure you’re using SPF when the sun is out and using a heavier moisturizer when sleeping.
Great video.. great information thank you.. Can you also tell about concentration of ingredients that is good for acne prone skin.. how much concentration is less harmfull please..🙏😊

Clear concise and practical advice. Your patients are lucky to have you in their lives. As am I 😊
i love how you explained all of this, i learned so much without feeling overwhelmed. thank you so much dr. shereene!
I use my vitamin c in am and retinal at night. But Azelacic every day, together with Kojic and Tranexamic acid.
Loving the more authentic feeling presentation in this one
im so glad i came across your channel. you are an angel
I spend way too long just reading ingredient lists at Walgreens just to leave with nothing :(
If lactic acid is very low on the ingredient list it is a pH adjustor not an exfoliant :)
Thank you very much for teaching me how to take care of my skin. I’m wearing spf daily! ❤️
Im so glad that I found ur channel! It is always more secure to listen to a professional like u when comes to skincare. U are so cheerful, straight to the point, & ur content is not difficult to understand. Thank you so much for making all these videos ❤
Thank you for all of your videos. You explain things so well. I really do appreciate all that you do!
Love from Greece 🇬🇷!! Σε αγαπάμε!
Dr. Idriss,Thank you for this. You made it so clear and easy to understand. I was drawn to your channel because of how beautiful and flawless your skin is, and I thought to myself that you're a living example. If I want to learn anything about beautiful skin, I'd better listen to you lol.
Good morning dr. Shereene, thank you for your education and I love your glowing skin today and God blessing you and your family 🤗
I would love to hear about copper peptides with other actives. I’ve been using them with AHAs and Retinoids, but avoiding at the same time as l-ascorbic acid
I think AHAs are like vitamin c, so you shouldn't mix it with cooper peptide.
I don't think that is a good idea to combined peptide with exfolians
Copper peptide is too fragile to use with any acids. It only works in a neutral pH. It can be combined with other peptides and maybe growth factors
Thanks. I emailed DRMTLGY, as their needleless serum has copper peptides and they said it was fine with anything other than vitamin C. That’s why I have been using with. However, I don’t put one on top of the other. I usually have some type of barrier between the two.
@@KONN1182 I used their needleless Serum for a year and it nothing for me.
Going way back to this old video and this is the BEST VIDEO. THANK YOU
I love the Elf aha & bha it has both in together. Put it on at night. Skin looks n feels wonderful in the morning😊
Very informative video , can you plz make a video on chemical Vs physical sun screen. And what is your favorite sunscreen??
I just want to thank you for your channel! I have taken so many of your tips! It has been a major game changer for my skin! ❤
Thanks for everything, specially to stress on no risk to combine Niacinamide with Vit C! I do since long and it’s perfection! Again, thanks xoxo
What do you use for this?
@@delsanayamorgan909I’ve tried Cosrx niacinamide and didn’t really like it. Currently trying Natrium Products and really loving it. 30 and having skin issues but just in a few days my skin is glowing !!
Thank you for this videi. I was confused before, when everybody was saying no no for retinol/BHA combination while my skin kept saying yes yes 😊
You know he is absolutely adorable ! Even from a distance. Thanks for your guidance!
Thanks for breaking this down and not making me waste money on what i didn't need. New subscriber 😃 😊
Ignore the man on the bed 😂
😂😂😂 where’s Waldo?
So cute lol
😂😂😂
Poor man😢
Thank you, Dr. Shereene for sharing all these information. I greatly appreciate it.
Omg i was just searching if mixing vit c and niacinamide is okay. Thank goodness i found youuuu
Would love to see a video on pityrosporum foliculitis/fungal acne💓
god, thank you.
So glad that I found you. I’m into skincare since 2017 and still learning so much from you.
Wow… years of knowledge
I love how you include women in their 50s and in menopause ages I am 60 years old and I have dry skin and one of my biggest problems. I thinks is puffy eyes due to Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Any chance you can any traduce or find ways of helping those who have thyroid issues thank you have a great day.
This is the best video ever to resolve all my doubts about skincare and ingredients THANK you!
(Drum roll) 🥁🥁🥁😂
I’d like to know if the bottle size of an spf affects the efficacy and durability of the product in the case of a facial sunscreen.
(As an example, just please make a big bottle of a quality product!)
Much love from Switzerland ! 🇨🇭
You are literally answering all my questions and concerns, I appreciate you sharing your knowledge!
Dear dr, please talk about combining peptides and l- ascorbic acid!:)
I'm sooooo glad this video came up today. I recently started using Cereve Vitamin C serum with La Roche Posay moisturizer which has niacinadmide and just as you described... they turned orange on my face. Anyone else experience this too?
Yes. I had the same reaction to Cerave Vitamin C. The L’Oréal one is more gentle but not as brightening. Gonna try the Olay one next.
The ordinary vit mn c serum is best.
I personally think the drug store vitamin c sucks. Try Natrium vitamin c or Jumiso vitamin c
I love this video because real life is happening around you. Spontaneity is missing on TH-cam nowadays 😆
Excellent, informative and you are sooo classy….soothing as well. Others bring in Pop Ups….totally a distraction from the great info and YOU! ❤ thank you! So refreshing…💫🥰💯🌹🦋
Absolutely love you and thank you for explaining us so much for our skins...
Hi! Greetings from Greece 🇬🇷. We love you
Thank you so much! I was 100% confused about this topic and I needed this! Thanks!
You’re a Master, Doc, straight to the point in a very clear way! Thanks again as usual! ❤️
OMG. White suits you wonderful! Thanks for all the knowledge!
I have this same question!
Yes, would also love to hear, where to fit in copper peptides
I was wondering the same thing. I have no problem tolerating them in the same rutine - but does it do me any good?
Do not use these two together. Use the copper peptides in am and retinoids in pm.
I have recently discovered you and you are becoming one of my favorites. Great video and y'all are hilarious at 2:07!!
Hi what's your lipstic please?
Great video.. great information thank you..
Can you also tell about concentration of ingredients that is good for acne prone skin.. how much concentration is less harmfull please..🙏😊
Love your channel. So informative and concise for what's out there in the market when it comes to skincare. I appreciate you don't sugar coat products and are specific to what they can and cannot do for your skin. Keep educating us consumers. Your a phlepher of information and I appreciate that!

Good morning Dr Shereene 😊😊😊 ☀️, For you next video can you talk about flaky skin ? What are the causes, how to treat it, and best products to tame it ?
Love your content. Thank you. I'm hoping you can do a video on razor bumps and ingrown hairs someday. Treatment, prevention, and getting rid of the scarring. Glycolic acid and Benzoyl Peroxide seem to help but I'd love to hear your take and see what else to do!
OMGEEEEE. So much great info here - need to go back and watch again and take notes! Thank you!!
Hello Dr Idriss! Thank you for always putting on high-quality content that's informative and fun! I've been following your channel since last Spring and can safely say that my skin has never looked better. THANK YOU SO MUCH ❤️❤️❤️ Best wishes from Bulgaria
