This is a quite a good guide for beginners; appreciating sticking to basics (at least first/for now). A lot of Shulk mains tend to overcomplicate things so this is pretty cool
NGL as someone who mostly mains Marth in the previous Smash games and didn't care much for Shulk back when Smash 4 was the newest game, I do want to get better as Shulk in Ultimate. (mainly because I've now played the game he's from and absolutely loved it.) Good to know that I can carry my game plan of approaching the opponent by poking them with the tip of the sword to Shulk.
Pumped! I’d say I’m a decent smash player. 2-2er for sure Roster in elite and mains are 14m GSP(well for now as GSP passively rises) Was searching for a new character for fun, shulk always seemed fun / interesting. Been playing him the last day or two and having a lot of fun! Guide seems straight forward, I’d love some more in depth nuance. Watching you, nicko, JIK, kome…you all have very different styles :) Be blessed!
Yo its the goat shulk, great video. Two quick questions, one i shulk secondary viable? I main fox but like dual maining (I dual main fox and lucina rn), but I've always really liked shulk, but idk if he's worth it if you only secondary him. Two, how do I make speed art bair work, it feels so hard to land well wtih good drift, I watch you play and you make it look so effortless.
1. I think you should stick to one character, doesnt matter who as between fox, lucina or Shulk but I think picking one character is the best use of your time. 2. I usually do full hop bair in speed art making it easier or the shorthop macro by doing jump + attack at the same time. Thanks for watching the video, i appreciate the support 🫡
@@elijmin2 I am currently thinking about whether it’s better to use short hop or full hop aerials in speed art. I myself use mostly short hops, however in most vods of good shulk players I see them use mostly full hops. I know that full hop aerials deal more damage but I was wondering if there are any other advantages of using full hops when in speed art.
@@adrianhosak734 both have their purpose. full hop aerials are good if you have more space/time to wall your opponent out whereas shorthops are less reactable and a quicker overall burst option. hope this helps.
I'm just thinking about using Shulk, I remember that in Sm4sh there was a way to counter and have invincibility and other advanced techniques, are there still some of them left? Pd: very cool video B)
how do you get good at changing monados during hitstun as well as being able to switch to the correct one while recovering? I die a lot because I switch to shield after being hit then being offstage and having horrible movement cause of shield art.
As a fellow Shulk main I've always wondered why I rarely if at all see any other players use his counter ability, speaking of which I was curious about why you didn't go over it. Is it more simple to get hang of when and how to use it than even monado arts? Just wondering
Counters are generally used pretty infrequently in high level play because they’re easy to punish if you whiff. To make any counter work, you need a hard read on your opponent. With Shulk, though, his counter is wildly inconsistent because of the way he slashes if you hit the counter. Even if you get the read and time it right, your counter might still miss. For certain situations and at lower level play, it can still be really useful, it’s just really situational. Hope that helps :)
Ive been playing some onli e matches and the parry (down B) catches alot of people of guard xD but ive read some comments that said shulks counter sucks ¿should i stop using it?
Shulk main here. do not stop using counter but you definitely have to avoid spamming it lol , counter works really good in the ground and it kills fucking early with smash art on , i have killed people countering a jab at 30% in the ledge
airslash is really slow… its frame10 so it wont punish a lot of safely landed moves, you can look at ultimateframedata.com to get a general idea of what moves can still be punish when spaced completely safely. tldr; shulk has bad OOS 💀
shulk main here.. you dont do nothing lol , air slash is good but this game got a lot of safe options , so be patient inside shield and wait for the opponent next move , like an spot dodge , shielding or jumping
I do have a question though, I asked Esam on one of his streams what Shulk's bad matchups are, and he said Pika, Palu, and Snake. Is this true? If so, how do I get past these bad matchups?
i think his two worst MUs are Snake and ROB. Snake MU requires a lot of discipline with your moves and good spacing to not explode grenades. ROB: You honestly just have to be the better player. ROB is only hard because he has all tools needs to beat Shulk (easy options to stall arts, projectiles, options to force jumps, quick aerials and grounded buttons to stuff us out, big disjoint)
@@elijmin2 thanks! I just picked up Shulk because I love the inherent strategy of the monado arts, and the great range he has, so this really helped me out!

Best guide. Not lengthy, doesn't talk in circles, keeps it simple.
Subbed.

I find it really encouraging to see high-quality, competitive guides being released in 2023/2024. Great work - keep at it!
ty bro. i think its never too late to reach your goals in ssbu rn. As long as you focus on the right things catching up is entirely possible
Oh boy now I can play the super Shulk character in my Smash Brothers video game for the Nintendo Switch system at my home or elsewhere !!!!!!
glad i could help
i wanted to find a new main and shulk really caught my attention so this will really come in handy, thanks!
no problem! glad it was helpful
I learnt more about shill in this guide than I learnt about cloud when I literally wrote for 10 days, 10 pages of notes and frame data.
Picking up Shulk as a secondary to Dr Mario and I love his explosiveness
I'd honestly prefer a long in depth guide than a short one
Im telling yall man this is THE hidden boss character of this game
I was looking for a swordy to casually main and this popped up. I'll give Shulk a try, and you a follow.
thanks bro
Cloud is a really good one as well
Never turn your back to Shulk! BACKSLASH
seriously one of the best and most straight forward guides i’ve seen. thanks a lot
He said and the other 2 dont even play the game and it had me hooked lmao
I tend to start losing lots of matches due to my opponent using shield to much. thanks for the advice im gonna practice it when i get the chance

One thing I learned about playing shulk all day the other day is how not to waste my double jump especially off stage
Da best shulk for real

Great vid it helped so much
Thank you goat with this information I will 3 stock spargo
Not if I do it first

Great Video, can you explain Dial Storage in some Video?^^ I try to main Shulk at the Moment
i think dial storage is a waste of time
am i the only one that has no idea what he's saying when he says stuff like with fair f tilt and nare
The real question is how do you convince your friends to play AGAINST your shulk. I struggle with that part
LOOL, just tell your friends they suck and they’ll get mad and try to beat your Shulk
Tell them they need to be willing and open minded to learn to play against the character to learn to win against him
really good video wtf
Very cool.

Shulk is my main
You forgot down smash tho. I wouldn’t recommend spamming this but it can kill jigglypuff if she taken some shield DMG already lul
What should you do out of shield with shulk? a lot of the time when I try to do out of shield airslash it just gets shielded :/

Its an odd feeling listening to the same dude, still lecturing me about shulk 7 years later. My DK still clears 🥱
😂😂😂😂 alright buddy, just don’t forget that time i spiked your dk with sonic
