i have an own version of this deck with my promo yargle. i just love it, when i place my commander on the table everybody is like "wtf is that? what can it do" and i say "its a 5 mana 9/3" and they say "and what can it do?" then i just smile at them.

I played this deck last night (minus a few cards that I couldn't get my hands on). First game I pulled Yargle out too early and was susceptible but the second game I won on infect damage on turn 7 while Yargle had intimidation. Super fun and everyone who saw the deck had a good laugh about my commander.

This is the first time I've seen one of your deck techs and I absolutely love it. I'm a big fan of these budget-yet-focused commander decks, there are so many great, affordable cards that are generally useless until you pair them with the right commander and then BAM, your $20 deck beats your buddies $250 deck.

@@TheCommandersQuarters You're welcome, thanks for the content. I just bought a lot of the cards you suggested for this deck and it came in at about $25, but I also put in a Sol Ring and a Gilded Lotus which pumps up the price. Probably too much mana but I really hate being mana-screwed.

This channel is amazing! I'm so glad there is EDH content creators focusing on the budget side of the format. I might even build this deck, the only thing that is holding me back is infect. I really dislike the mechanic but it is so good in this deck. Great video. :)
Don't tell anyone...but I don't really like it either. The only exception I make is for Yargle since he is a vanilla commander and it is really funny when you take out your friends with a commander that has no abilities haha. Thanks!
Imho infect can be a problem for casual metas if it proliferates to a point where it is used in almost every deck. I think it's ok if someone uses it in one of his decks and says so before the game. I would also sideboard alternatives for my infect cards, just in case someone really had issues with them. For example, Hatred would be a great replacement for Tainted Strike in this Yargle build, with all that lifelink.
Edit: Nvm, I just saw Hatred's price tag. ô.O
Yeahhh, but the look on your friends face when they take the damage the first time you swing expecting to still be at 31...then you throw out a Tainted Strike and politely inform them that they are dead makes it very worth it.

EDH always seems to be intimidatingly high-priced to get into, but this channel gives me hope! Whenever my friends and I play I always see these format staples and foiled-out dream cards and Masterpieces and stuff, but these videos show that the format can be jumped into from any pricepoint. For that reason I also really like the upgrades section at the end - that shows that these decks aren't budget-only, and that they can be developed even further!
Keep up the good work on this channel. I've just discovered it, and I'm excited to see more!
Also, given the vast amount of 1- or 2-cost Instants in the game, I'd be highly interested in seeing a budget Prowess sort of deck built with Narset or Shu Yun. I'm sure there are cheaper options out there than Monastery Mentor!

There definitely are plenty of cheap ones out there! Already have the next few episodes scheduled, but in the future you never know!
One of the best times I have had playing commander was the $30ish limit secret Santa commander night my friends and I did. It's not so bad. Plus you get reket by the degenerate Edric deck you gave to a friend!

People laugh about " Vanilla" Yargle, but he's a beast. I recently played a 4 player game in which the Yargle deck handily took everyone else down--without Infect. Good deck building is more important that the exact general. Nice build here! Thanks for sharing your ideas.

As a separate aside, all of the great ideas given here can apply easily to Grunn, the Lonely King (looking at Infect giving cards in Colorless, etc).
And now thanks to this, my friend and I are taking up a challenge to create 2-3 decks each costing $15 and have an EDH League Challenge.

Great vid, concept, and execution. One Glaring Problem- damaged cards are trash. They often make for a 'marked card' because you can tell, from the back and in a sleeve that it does not look like the others due to creases, etc. Please stick to at least HP condition if not LP, which I think most people consider a minimum acceptability.
I actually haven't run into the problems with damaged cards, but I am sorry that you do! Thank you for your feedback, but I like to do the deck techs in the way that I actually buy the cards and the decks myself.
This deck with a heavier infect theme got me to the top of my LGS’s Commander League back before the pandemic. It got to the point that the LGS banned poison cards after I steamrollered over everybody with the big frog boi.
It's so funny seeing a lot of the cards I use in these videos because of how budget I play.
As a secondary or backup creature to build up in a voltron deck I recommend Valduk, keeper of the flame. At the beginning of combat you get a 3/1 token for each aura or equipment attached to him.

Another card i would recommend is undying evil,
for a single Black mana you can give target creature undying until end of turn. It would make a great way to protect Yargle while also making him a little stronger.
Thanks for yet another great video and deck tech ^_^ I built a deck based on the Tatyova tech you did a while back, and so far I've got a 8/10 win ratio with it. I guess the only downside is that I often have so much to do on my turns that it causes my opponents to whine and complain about me taking too long -.-
Haha yeah that is a downside, but that win rate is pretty sweet! The more you play it the quicker you can get!

I built this for my playgroup, and it's an absolute unit. I've upgraded the deck a whole bunch and I have the possibility of a turn 2 infect win
$0.06 Commander... Yup...
I truly want to commend you for basically showing that it is indeed able to play this format with a Focused deck at a rock-bottom price. A lot of flak is in the deck, but yes getting $15 for 100 cards is a great challenge. Literally anything you build on this budget is a testament to card knowledge and passion.
Sidenote: an Unreasonable Addition is Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon (switching commanders obv.) But things like Contagion Clasp, and other proliferate/infect options can be viable to. Those common Infect creatures are a side journey if players want to pursue the Poison win. However, you mentioned it and it is worth restating "You can just 2 shot them with the Frog" via Commander Damage.
Subtle additions to the deck can be more card draw like cycling lands, fetch lands, cheap cycling spells to keep the open mana useable. But they will add to the deck. Even Scarab Feast, Dirge of Dread, Fade from Memory, Street Wraith, especially Undead Gladiator, Razaketh's Rite (for finding Tainted Strike or early cycling), Twisted Abomination, Without Weakness, Unburden, Expunge and Nihil Spellbomb have some rando uses and keep the deck moving.

Great work. I usually spend too much money on my favorite format, so I'm always excited to see creative budget designs which nonetheless may compete with a great number of non-budget lists.
I'm a little bit irritated by the low number of answers, though. Personally, I would drop some of the redundant equipments for cards like Nev's Disk, Murder and Reckless Spite. I like being aggressive, but I also like having a backup. ;-)
Definitely can be adjusted to personal preference and playstyle!

Lord of Thressorhorn is a 4 CMC 10 power monster that requires 2 creatures to sac.
That's a heavy price, but there are three things that make him a possibly better choice.
-- Minor deal, but he is technically 1 mana cheaper (though the sac requirement really increases his summon cost but its still something)
-- Big deal, he has three different colors (including Black and Blue) which heavily buffs your deck diversity. Black is great and granting this 10 attack minion infect while Blue is great at making things unblockable. Plus Counterspells for board protection.
-- Hugest of deals, He has 10 attack. This means there is no stat buffing necessary to get a 10 power monster with infect through to a players life total. This 1 power difference is the difference between giving players 1 turn to live or no turns to live.
Aside from that, he lets one opponent draw 2 cards which is good political ammo and he comes with a 1 mana ability to regenerate himself, so he's basically going to be on the field at all time. Just keep some cheap minions out there for his sac cost and you're good to go.
An interesting commander to consider, but personally I like the flavor of Yargle better, and not having the sac requirement is nice as well.

This looks like a fun deck to play, I might have to build it someday. Though I need to finish the blue green deck I am working on first. Depending how well a play group takes a deck that combos into a board wipe that leaves everyone both field and manaless while my side has an army of 5/3 tokens and a creature that is massive. Though I am looking at other cards to change the play style into a simple agro deck that combos siege behemoth and triumph of the hordes. Though I don't care for infect as well. Then the third style is clones and stealing cards from my opponent's deck.
