Opal Palace is an excellent addition to the mana base. It filters 1 mana to any color, and if it’s spent to cast your commander from the command zone, it adds +1/+1 counters equal to the number of times it’s been cast from the command zone
@@stigmurder99 The ozolith would allow you to spread the counters he has onto other creatures including any keyword counters. So essentially you are using skullbriar as a permanent counter stockpile, but if someone is able to get rid of skullbriar, but not Ozolith then you have all those counters (+1/+1, trample, flying, etc) to other creatures and skull still keeps his.

I tried to make a Skullbriar deck a long time ago with a Scavenge subtheme. Watching your opponents face when you have Varolz, the Scar Striped on the board, and you scavenge a Death's Shadow onto Skullbriar is priceless. One black mana for 13 +1/+1 counters.
If you've got newer cards I highly recommend throwing an "Invigorating Surge" in there, for 3 cmc you can add a +1/+1 then DOUBLE all +1/+1 counters on skullbriar.
Oh yeah, I made a Tiny Leaders deck with this guy. You know, back when that was the hot thing for all of ten minutes. Unspeakable Symbol was the MVP of that deck and I don't think any Skullbriar deck can justify not running it. Champion of Lambholdt is ~$2, but give it some of the counters (maybe even through Unspeakable Sybol) and suddenly Skullbriar is unblockable. Curse of Predation will let you go ham on one person.
Fun fact: moving counters between creatures also triggers counters-increasing abilities like Winding Constrictor and Corpsejack Menace. You could also consider Scrounging Bandar. For example, with Corpsejack Menace on board, if you move Scrounging Bandar's counters onto Forgotten Ancient and Forgotten Ancient's counters onto Scrounging Bandar every upkeep, you effectively doubled the counters on both of those creatures.
I run a more pricey version of this deck, something I've had a lot of fun with: Avoid Fate. 1-drop green counterspell that only shuts down another instant. I've found it an extremely useful deterrent against plenty of targeted removal that would otherwise take Skullbriar off the board, and it's only $1 or so. Also, 100% worth the look on your opponent's face when you play a green 1-drop counter.
I know they didn't exist when this video was made but, the keyword counters from Ikoria are a perfect fit for this deck as Skullbriar will keep them between zones, and so you can give him trample/lifelink/etc. basically permanently. Also Hydra's Growth and Aspect of Hydra would be perfect fits.
I'd really like to see some future videos with different budget options, i.e. a $50 deck, a $100 deck or even a $10 deck. It does get kind of repetitive to see the same rocks and ramp spells for every deck and not everyone has the same budget.
Finally some good budget content! I love it! I don't have a lot of money to spend on mtg stuff so this helps me alot! My friends build new decks all the time and I cant keep up with them, but now i can!!!

Hallar huh? Since her ability deals damage to all players it seems that a gameplan should be centered around giving Hallar around 12 counters and triggering her ability 3 times to go for kill. Since holding Hallar on the field for longer will be difficult (seriously she just paints a big sweet target on you) we may try to go for explosive turns. Both Ruby and Emerald Medallions will help lowering the cost of our spells though Ruby currently cost around 3$. For explosive turn Savage Ventmaw and Grand Warlord Radha may help by generating large amount of Mana (Ventmaw Generates RRRGGG when attacking while Radha generates R or G per creature attacking, both persisting through phases) that you may use for spells in second main phase. The myth Unbound may help if you plan on ankle biting your opponent with Hallar by lowering cost of subsequent summons (with both medalions your first two summons will cost you just RG). Jaya Ballard may also help a bit by bringing in RRR though only for instant and sorceries. In general lot's of mana generators and lot's of cheap kicker spells alongside regular counter generation should be a way for Hallar.
I happened to crack a Doubling Season so that makes this totally an unfair test, but playtesting this deck I ended up with Skullbriat being (at least) a 159/157 with Haste, Trample, Vigilance, Lifelink, Fear, and when he deals combat damage draw two cards. I also drew 43 cards off my library thanks to Rishkar's Expertise.
You have no idea how happy it makes me to see Corpsejack Meanace in this deck, its one of my most FAVORITE cards. (also, i approve this deck having run a ton of +1/+1 counter decks in and out of commander

I think this would be a good strategy for the channel, because people will open these cards on their prerelease and draft events. Thus they will wonder if they want to build them. Having an affordable, fun and effective build at hand would be great for these people and will hopefully convince them of the extraordinary quality of the channel!

Decks worth including a few sac outlets in case of bounce or tuck effects. My favorites Jarad, golgari lich lord. Skullbriars also a fun commander to use some infect effects on, particularly grafted exoskeleton. Kinda requires balancing the deck to make it work best though.
Sac outlets aren't really necessary for that, as you can just send Skullbriar back to EDHZone instead of going to the library or hand. That wasn't possible in the old rulings, but it's already been some time since they changed the rules to allow the same replacement effect for any zone. Today, whenever you Commander would change from any zone to any other zone, you get to choose if it goes to the destination zone or the EDHZone.
Jared and diabolical servitude are fun combos… pay the 3 to sac skullbriar (dealing damage to each opponent = to his toughness) and play servitude, paying the 3 to sac him again, recast skullbriar to rinse and repeat. 7 mana a turn to dish out plenty of damage plus combat damage. 👍👍
I'd take out out some of the indestructible granting cards and put in some green cards that protect the commander from counterspells and blue spells once he hits play since you really don't want to have him get controlled or bounced. Sword of Truth and Justice, Autum's Veil, Veil of Summer, Spellbane Centaur, Display of Dominance.
This is back before you couldn’t move the commander from zones. If it went to the library or hand you didn’t have the option to put them in the command zone.
I'm seeing a lot of work here that could also go on to Hallar the Firefletcher. Cheesing counters on him and then kicking spells is a great way to amass Commander Damage without even attacking
Now that ability counters exist I got a sudden urge to play skullbriar. Reanimating a */* lifelink, deathtouch, trample, haste, reach, menace skullbriar everytime seems fun. The oziliith would also have some fun synergy.
Rishkar, Perms Renegade is cheap, adds a +1/+1 counters on each of up to two creatures and each creature with a +1/+1 counter can tap for green mana while he's on the field. Ramp for days with this deck.
Not if you include one of the most basic cards that should be your first include in any deck with a combat-centric general who wants to get big: Opal Palace. It's honestly shameful that it's not in this list when dross like Vivid Marsh and Grove are.

Abzan is a bit inferior to Sultai but it does have its tactics. Nonetheless Abzan is more suited to token generation and static anthems while Sultai can jack knife any creature into lethal teritory.

Grim Harvest and Sakura-Tribe Elder combine for a great mana fixing combo, and both of the cards are easy on the budget!

Asceticism would be a great upgrade. Adds some protection to your Commander in the form of hexproof, and allows you to regenerate him if need be.

If you keep each to $25, it will afford both more easily. Always have your 99 other cards played beforehand as improv costs money.

Yeah and yet she is such a good card for EDH
