People have mentioned Urza, Lord High Artificer, but there was also Krenko, Mob Boss, Fynn the Fangbearer, & Light-Paws, Emperor's Voice, who should probably have had a mention, too.
Zada Hedron Grinder, Aeve, Adeline, Balan, Baral, Darien, Deekah, Atemsis, Ezuri, Ghalta, Gonti, Goreclaw, Jalira, Kataki, Laelia, Minn Wilely Illusionist, and others tend to be very close to described…
@@satansamael666 Zada still beats them in explosiveness being able to draw 20+ cards, create 20+ treasures with another, and all of this from 1 mana spells~ And then she wins with combo/storm plan or normal face-crushing plan.
Even though I agree with all said about Tergrid I think you forgot about one, really important thing: She also works with sacrifices. So even when enemies don't have cards but have a lot of permanents in play you are still able to gain a lot of advantage by forcing enemies to sacrifice or preventing them from using sacrifices for their own gain (like f.e aristocrats decks).
I appreciate that although marwyn is built to get bigger through more elves, its mana is dependent on power. I like the big enchantments like collosification going on the commander so there's a lot more mana to use
Orvar the all form is one of the most annoying commanders because it forces your opponents to become deeply knowledgeable in deeper rules of magic. His ability triggers when you cast a spell and it targets a permanent. Which means 1. Players cannot interact with the spell in terms of countering it, they must interact with Orvar as the Orvar player casted the spell and it targeted something meaning the conditions are met 2.If you kill Orvar, the trigger still happens 3.Orvar combo's super easy with things that are hard to interact with. Many of his combo lines involve him making infinite mystical sanctuaries which are islands and can't be interacted with by most spells, not even the might cyclonic rift can save you and if you counter the spell, mystical sanctuary still copies and he can return the spell he was using to the top of his deck. 4. There is no such thing as "stopping" an Orvar from comboing, you can only delay him from comboing. 5.*There are a LOT of magic rules that have been made in terms of copies entering the field.* ____________________________________________________ Some examples, and I am not making this up, our table has had to look all of these up. *If the Orvar player cast a single mana spell an enchantment he controls, he can then copy that enchantment and then attach it to any legal target. This includes creatures with hexproof and shroud, because it technically doesn't target the target. There are many more examples of weird Orvar rulings, and if these two made your brain hurt at all, don't worry there are a ton more. Just know if you make Orvar, you as a blue player will have a fun, new way to make everyone at the table dislike you deeply as no one expects when they sit down that they are going to have to be shuffling through the MTG rulebook looking for a ruling that was made 7 years ago.
What’s even meaner than this? A Kodama of the east tree and sakashima of a thousand faces partnered. Sakashima comes in as a target of kodama which causes them to trigger separately. All it takes is landfall/bouncy lands. There’s other options as well but it literally can win with so many options. The only downside to this commander is that it is a large mana cost but guess what? You have access to green, only the best mana ramp in the game. My only complaint about building the deck around them is that there’s too many cards I had to remove because it’s too potent. In fact, I can’t even use Orvar in it because there’s so few instants/sorceries that target my stuff. I haven’t played it yet but it’s going to be so annoying to the table. I even ignored the bounce/landfall and stuff just to weaken it because it’s too strong otherwise for casual edh. The only reason I made this deck was because I was arguing with one of my friends at our table about copies being too strong. With this deck you can literally empty your hand once they’re both on the field. The biggest problem I think it’s going to have is not drawing cards fast enough. However, one of the decks we’re playing against is a draw focused deck so I’m hoping that they build it with the draw cards that make us all draw. deckstats.net/decks/124459/3025471-rnd6-kodama-of-the-east-tree-s?lng=en
I'm starting to wonder if Logs is just physically incapable of saying the word "crater", since he's called it Caterhoof every single time it's been mentioned on this channel.
Urza really deserved the number one spot on the list. Godo still requires 11 mana (minimum) and is extremely vulnerable to disruption, which red isn't necessary the color most suited to handle (particularly when 3 against 1), while Urza costs much less to enable much more, also giving you the best color to protect your board. Godo is also powerful, but that works against itself as well, since its whole gameplan revolves around itself and the combo, makiing it an immediate target for all players, while the variety of options for Urza are also a form of protection, since it coming down doesn't herald the end of the game means that your opponent will not gang up on you immediately, giving you room to breathe and to plan properly. All in all, this list (as all the others) suffers from the old issue of the ambiguous use of "best" for a mainly casual format. Like, Godo is definitely the most powerful red commander, but its aggressive combo nature means that he is reduced to high-power CEDH table, while Magda has a decent power level AND casual options, making it a more widespread and fun commander, and as such often arguably the better one. Likewise Tegrid is decently powerful, and loved for deckbuilding, but often loathed at actual table for its oppressive nature making not only the Yawgmoth family, but cards like Sheoldred and Sir Konrad (particularly the latter, since its punishing nature, cool design and power to just close games) much more beloved options.
9:57 i find it really interesting that Su Chi is specifically mentioned, especially since it's a $77 card. i suppose Myr Moonvessal, Cathodian, and Su-Chi Cave Guard just don't work as well each being about fifty cents or less.
Love tergrid on here, so good one of my favorite decks to play. Thought maybe baral was a candidate for top 10 on here, another one of those fun to play but super annoying to deal with 👍
I built a light-paws deck for my girlfriend. It's still our strongest deck to use that friendlies in the LGS that we're frequently visiting had to play faster cards to beat the turn 4 kill
c'mon, what about: Norin the Wary :) anyway one of my favorite mono commanders is Balthor the Defiled {2}{B}{B}, who just can exile himself from the battlefield for {B}{B}{B}, to bring back all black and red creatures from all graves. so basically a sacrifice deck, that gets the creatures back, over and over.
Marwyn is so fun. I had the staff un originally but infinite combos are so anti climactic even if you have to jump through a few hoops to get there. I like just casting something like Hurricane for a big x cost to win.
I feel like azami lady of scrolls should have been mentioned on this list. while she isn't top tier anymore back when commander was edh she was the top commander and had so many ways to abuse her effect. back also when tolarian academy was legal in the format. good times
I'm curious to see if people would consider colorless a mono-color deck. I think it would qualify since it you are limiting yourself to one 'color'. With Liberator, Urza's Battlethopter I can see a spike in colorless decks. Honestly there are quite a few mono-colored commanders that could be here but some are kind of limited because of price or accessibility. Selvala, Urza, Ashcoat, Balan, Auntie Blyte, Lita, Svyeluin, Baldin, Inferno of the Star Mounts, Giada, Goreclaw, and so many more are really strong.
Marwyn actually goes infinite even at base 1/1 with umbral mantle as long as you have 3 mana. Tap her to add mana. Spend 3 to untap her and she gets +2/+2 until end of turn making her a 3/3. Tap her for 3 mana and untap her. Now you start gaining mana with each untap and making her unfinitely large.
I had a fun game against Tergrid. I managed to keep my hand completely empty by exiling the top of my library to filter cards I wanted. You can’t give Tergrid your cards if you never discard or sacrifice
Feel like this list is definitely missing Urza, Lord High Artificer. Urza Stax is pretty popular and powerful, much more than Orvar. If you’re going to make a list of the best Commanders, then it makes more sense to focus on CEDH, where Urza sees much more play than Orvar. Also, excluding mono-green Selvala feels strange, she’s still more powerful than anything other than the top two and Urza. In the same vein, Birgi and Heliod should definitely be somewhere on the list, and there are probably a couple of others I’m missing too.
Also, Gix being excluded feels off. Edric styled commanders are known to be very powerful at going turbo on drawing combos, a mono black one with a decent cost and stats with some ability upside is just overloaded with power.
I've been using light-paws aura voltron, and she can 6-turn win on a 4-player group if they don't have an answer. Group was flabbergasted about the tutor ability.
Marwyn only needs to be able to tap for 3 mana to get infinite mana with umbral mantle as untapping with umbral mantle gives the creature +2/+2 which means that it now taps for 5 mana.
Heck, she technically doesn't need to have any +1/+1 counters on her to start going infinite with the mantle. With a single use, she then has 3 power, which means she immediate matches the cost to use the mantle again. Each further use increases her power even more, resulting in more and more mana each time. All you need is two mana to start, seeing as she'll be able to tap for one mana baseline.
Obligatory: Where Urza!? OK, now that's done: One of my favourite casual decks was a mono-black Kuro Pitlord. It aimed to just gain tons of life, then spend it on Kuro to have the only creatures on the board at all times. Pestilence Demon+Vampiric Link was probably the best combo in there, letting me deal with wide token decks and gain massive amounts of life against them, then use my commander to erase the bigger threats. It was honestly one of my weaker decks (It severely lacked consistency against any deck with even moderate speed to it. A 9 mana commander was rough to get out, especially in black, and before cards like Burnished Hart existed for good colorless ramp, or Nykthos for mono colored advantages. And no, I could not afford a Cabal Coffers.) But when it DID work it was fun, and I enjoyed the "Looming threat" feel.
Urza, sheoldred, heliod, and many more missing, and there are some others in the list that I think should be here, if we're talking about the best of course...
no myrel shield of argive? personally she's not insane but a powerful force, an army that is multiplicative [2>4>8>16>etc] and makes it so your turn is your turn
Urza should have been on this list. A couple new ones are sakaskima a thousand faces and Kodama the east tree. Technically not mono colored when they’re partnered, they’re both lethal by themselves.
I think it’s because I’d argue Urza is THE most powerful mono color and if not definitely blue and probably only in 2/3rd but he’s so powerful everyone knows. No point in mentioning him since it’s a given.
Sounds like loads of fun…one person winning on turn 1 before you get to even do anything. This is why i am a wimp and play only casual to high power edh at most. Competitive never seems fun to me. Also I know alot of people have said this, but I am surprised to see urza not on here.
I'm surprised no one brought up Sheoldred, the Apocalypse as a powerful mono colored commander. I suppose, if you're considering the power that comes from the cards in the deck outside of the commander, you're kinda right in leaving her off. However, she's still a really good commander, even if she's just stax piece most of the time.
@@NotSoSerious69420 you're forgetting all the extra draws that the Sheoldred player will have put around the commander. Howling Mine, Font of Mythos, and Teferi's Puzzle Box, as well as instant win cons and other similar effects like Underworld Dreams. That's before you remember that is in mono black where you can make sure that you get things consistently.
It's interesting because only Magda, Orvar, and Krrik from this list are actually in the top 10 monocolor commanders on EDHRec, which is Krenko, Krrik, Kodama of the East Tree, Tevesh Szat, Giada, Orvar, Urza, Jeska, Magda, and Marrow Gnawer just informationally (Tergrid is 11). Strong and popular aren't 100% synonymous of course.
how does yawgmoth and tergrid make it and urza doesnt? theyre both incredibly slow jank that provide little to no value or protection against any actually competitively viable combos. even in the list theres marwyn and magda, two lists with tournament results and turn 2 combo win potential. also, slicer is the mono color threat hanging over the format right now- while its more jank than most of these lists just by nature of losing to a single piece of removal, its still more consistent than marwyn, teferi, tergrid, yawgmoth, oswald, kriik, and marwyn at putting up results lol
I feel there are lots of very powerful commanders that are missed out here. It has been a long time sence i have seen Yasin be anything. Omnath locus of mana is a much more powerful commanders in mono green Ashaya soul of the wild can make infant green mana very easy has has some interesting interactions. The fact that mono white is the weakest color in comander is true but the fact that Teshar was not here is crazy that deck is just combo win. Urza has been brought up and i think is much more powerful then orvar. Kranko decks for goblins. The list feels like lots of cards just were not on here
Great vid, but as others have said, Urza High Artificer is a big omission. That thing typifies the most busted aspects of Blue. Lore accurate maybe but horrendous on board.
I remember the days when Godo was a funny casual commander and the people that played agaisnt him were like "Thats a cool guy". Now days, you bring a Godo and everyone is "fuck this one trick pony guy" which says a lot of how good the combo is, if you are lucky you can win in turn 0. You just need 1 red mana, 1 mana crypt, anything that could pump your mana to 4, play the ogre and win.
With Marwyn's inclusion I would suspect Salvala, heart of the wild instead. Where Marwyn's comobos are good it's a lot easier/ consistent to find the right creatures to pop off with Salvala. Due to green being very good at tutoring and cheating out big creature. Not to mention almost all of Marwyn's big combos (staff of dominion/ any other mana dump untap) works with Salvala. But I am biased as I've won tournament with Salvala so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah, there's no Urza, not cool. Etali, Primal Storm should definitely have been on this list. If we're putting Godo on here, why not Razaketh, The Foulblooded? How about Azami, Lady of Scrolls or Light-Paws, Emperor's Voice? Selvala, Ashaya, Emry, Krenko, Teshar, hell even Tatsunari sees more play than Oswald or Tergrid do. I still like playing Omnath though and just stockpiling mana to have a giant blowout with Finale of Devastation or troll people with Helix Pinnacle, but that's just me.
shouldn't this list consist of more cards used in the higher tiers of cEDH? most viable commanders in that list are well established at this point and while some of them here show up on the list most of them aren't the usual mono coloured canidats that come to mind. Urza and godo obviously and magda is a higher tier as well if i remember correclty but i don't remeber the rest being very prominent. Maybe i am just somewhat out of the loop though,

Urza, Lord High Artifcer feels like a notable omission, given he's one of the few mono color commanders that sees cEDH play.
Yup, was waiting for my commander to show up lmao
Maybe Urza is on ManaLogs's internal exclusion list, a card that has been on so many lists, we all know it's broken.

I’m pretty sure the strongest planeswaker commander in CEDH is either Tevesh Szat or Minsc and Boo timeless heroes
Top 10 best tribes in commander would be cool
Amazing!
no myrel shield of argive? personally she's not insane but a powerful force, an army that is multiplicative [2>4>8>16>etc] and makes it so your turn is your turn
Myrel is pretty good in EDH aswell, she can unleash heavy damage fast with protection.
I was trying to figure out why they sounded so familiar. Now I know. Hi Hiru
Now, are there any viable COLORLESS commanders?
I’ve been having a LOT of success with mowu. I know maybe he doesn’t deserve to be ranked as top tier but he’s no slouch either
Also I know alot of people have said this, but I am surprised to see urza not on here.
cEDH CAN have explosive turn 1 wins but honestly if it’s not over before then 5 it will go FOREVER. It’s often way worse than casual.
Btw you can copy your lands with orvar
Aetherflux Reservoir does not give you life exponentially, but quadratically (L(k) = k(k+1)/2). Not every growth faster than linear is exponential.
Empress Galina is slept on
I'm surprised no one brought up Sheoldred, the Apocalypse as a powerful mono colored commander. I suppose, if you're considering the power that comes from the cards in the deck outside of the commander, you're kinda right in leaving her off. However, she's still a really good commander, even if she's just stax piece most of the time.
Oh boy I’m losing 2 life per draw. I don’t mean to shit on her or anything but if taxing is the goal there’s just better option.
Is aetherflux reservoir exponential?
It all depends on the playgroup. Trust me when I say that Marton Stromgald always 'seems' bad until they swing. 😊
how does yawgmoth and tergrid make it and urza doesnt? theyre both incredibly slow jank that provide little to no value or protection against any actually competitively viable combos. even in the list theres marwyn and magda, two lists with tournament results and turn 2 combo win potential. also, slicer is the mono color threat hanging over the format right now- while its more jank than most of these lists just by nature of losing to a single piece of removal, its still more consistent than marwyn, teferi, tergrid, yawgmoth, oswald, kriik, and marwyn at putting up results lol
Surprised vorinclex monstrous raider and urza lord high artificer didn't show up
How about Omnath, Locus of Mana
I feel there are lots of very powerful commanders that are missed out here. It has been a long time sence i have seen Yasin be anything. Omnath locus of mana is a much more powerful commanders in mono green Ashaya soul of the wild can make infant green mana very easy has has some interesting interactions. The fact that mono white is the weakest color in comander is true but the fact that Teshar was not here is crazy that deck is just combo win. Urza has been brought up and i think is much more powerful then orvar. Kranko decks for goblins. The list feels like lots of cards just were not on here
Personally think Birgi is pretty strong as a strom cEDH commander
Urza Lord High Artiificer should easily be top 5.
Top 1*
Where's Urza considering that he is a super competitive commander and is the face of artifact tribal
Surprised Lightpaws didn't make it.
Great vid, but as others have said, Urza High Artificer is a big omission. That thing typifies the most busted aspects of Blue. Lore accurate maybe but horrendous on board.
Now Best 5 color Commander decks
I play a Ramos deck. Very fun
1, Golos
2, Golos
3, Golos
4, Golos
5, Golos
Proliferate copies 1 of EACH type of counter on a given number of permanents & players.
Neck - Row - Poe - Tense.
nuh-crop-e-tinse!?!?!?! XD
Rhys the redeemed is a awesome commander for token decks.
Hes not mono colored tough
@@TheRedGauntlet fair point still a good commander tho I definitely have a lot of fun with it.
Undying doesn't work like that. It will still have the +1/+1 counter on it and it will stay dead.
Urza? Emry? Selvala? Birgi?
Urza and Birgi would like a word.
Lightpaws, emperors voice
Yeah you missed hard on the arguably two of the greatest commanders to ever be printed.
I would have say Emry
shouldn't this list consist of more cards used in the higher tiers of cEDH? most viable commanders in that list are well established at this point and while some of them here show up on the list most of them aren't the usual mono coloured canidats that come to mind. Urza and godo obviously and magda is a higher tier as well if i remember correclty but i don't remeber the rest being very prominent. Maybe i am just somewhat out of the loop though,
you know what? scratch that. The list is fine. I just was out of the loop
So what about Krenko?...
No Konrad huh!
And at at Number 4, we have K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth. This is a Legendary Phyrexian Whore Minion.
(Gotta love the American Accent, lol)
Its spelt horror, not "harrer". He pronounced it correctly.
@@chase6428
I never mentioned the pronunciation. Just noted that "horror" and "whore" sound almost identical in an American accent.
Here is one Idea. Top 10 Colorless Spells, that are not Artifacts
Sheoldred The Apocalypse? Where be you?
Surprised you didn't bring up heartless higetsu he is one of the stronger turn 1 combo decks. It is a treasonous orge combo as well
Yay commander!
Still sad Baral got banned
Does Daretti not make the list?
Isn’t Daretti 3 colors? Lol
@@NotSoSerious69420 nah Daretti is a mono R planes walker commander
Not my boy Fynn ??? My man?
Surprised that Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines didn't make an appearance as the absolute Stax piece that she is.
Yes slicer might not be the besttt
But he is a transformer, and that makes him high tier to me.
No edhrec was used in the making of this video
Holy shit you are the first person I've heard in 30 YEARS pronounce Necropotence correctly!
(goddammit people it's Ne-CRO-po-tence, not NE-cro-po-tence...finally someone gets it right!)
I’d have put Magda higher
Ashling???
The most budget Edh deck of all time?
Just need 99 mountains.
I got 99 problems but mountains ain’t one!
Krenko where?
Feel like Torbran should be on this list, he's one of the most popular mono red commanders and he can be pretty powerful. He has the ability to take terrible burn spells and make them useable, sometimes even great and occasionally even busted
Magda, Brazen Outlaw is much better in mono red
Because doing damage via spells is a horrible way to win a game.
