    So, like, a month ago I was just really getting into magic. Spending money, looking at standard meta, things of the sort. Then I discover the various formats. I was skeptical about Commander (or EDH whatever) because while building a 100 card deck out of a multi-thousand card pool sounds very hard, yet fun.
    What I'm trying to say is that these videos came in at a very convenient time and holy cow, are they high quality! Thanks for the tech, I'll put them to good use. :)

  • @kaisodile437
    @kaisodile437 6 ปีที่แล้ว +47

    Hey, just a quick suggestion to the upgrade section. I feel like it would be relatively simple and yet extremely helpful to add what cards to replace with each upgrade at the end, I know I have a hard time choosing what cards to take out a lot of the time.

    • @TheCommandersQuarters
      @TheCommandersQuarters  6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Thank you for the suggestion! I will definitely take it into consideration, but my only hesitation is that people may take these suggestions as hard facts. My approach to the upgrades and what I hope with people can do with them, is to make adjustments based on their own playstyle. Does that make sense?

    • @kaisodile437
      @kaisodile437 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@TheCommandersQuarters Yeah of course, I get why you'd do that. Wow, these decks are exactly what i love doing in the format. Finding budget-friendly interactions, combos etc. Just that my brews rarely reach this level of efficiency (deckstrength per cost). I do have some suggestions:
    -Tiana, Ship's Caretaker with tons of auras. (Protect her with umbras and maybe equipments, play politics with pacifism-like effects and curses, eventually win with a elementary master/breath of fury combo or a small voltron package)
    -Gonti, Lord of Luxury "I play your deck" with all the black and artifact flicker effects such as Minion Reflector, Supernatural Stamina etc.
    - Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest spellslinger voltron (similar to and arguably worse than Zada)

      The Commander's Quarters I do believe that each decks needs its own type of ramp to take the most of it. Just like you did with that Tatyova, where you put more spell based ramp, in decks like meren, prossh, commanders that care about creatures I believe that creature based ramp is better

    Put together this deck and played a few rounds last night. Turns out people don't like losing their stuff and that it turns into archenemy pretty quickly. What's a few lands anyway....
    Really liked Grave Betrayal and Aid from the Cowl in this deck, they can put in some serious work. I never felt mana constrained though, so will probably tune back on the mana dorks/ramp and throw in a bit more protection. Great deck though and a heap of fun to play when everyone reveals the top card.

      Did 2 1v1 games with this deck and I must say I had a blast! First one was vs. the precon cat commander that is undefeated in my playgroup and it won. Those huge indestructeble kittens had nothing to help themselves. against Vaevictis.
      Second game was vs. a control aminatu deck where I didn't manage to get any decent steam up and started the game with to many 7-12 drops to make things comfortable. A wheel effect would have been truly great at that time.
      I might add some wheel effect into the deck to get rid of my hand and get things into the library again if I have 12 mana eldrazi on hand and nothing to do.

      Just be sure you don't play it before you need to because if a bunch of your creatures die, you'll be drawing those instead of other cards
      Gate to the aether is great because all our cards are artifacts, enchantments, creatures or lands
      Sadistic augermage if you're feeling nice
      Game preserve, goblin spy, deceiver of form, cruel deceiver, brutal deciever, and I don't know what the green one is but all of them let you see the top card before you attack, and game preserve shows what's on your opponents library
      Extractor demon because mill is great for disrupting opponents that don't use the graveyard
      Baleful Omen because our spells tend to be higher costed
      I put magistrates veto in all my jund decks and urabrask gives vaevictis haste while making sure if we do attack into the opponent with a huge flyer on top they can't block with it
      I have atarka worldrender, but I realized that vaevictis doesn't get double strike if she entered after attacks

    • @fenixmeaney6170

      Liability because you can keep sacrificing tokens and drain opponents
      I also have groundskeeper to get back the basic lands I keep sacrificing before I have a board state and llanowar scout to put them back on the battlefield

      Suspicious bookcase so vaevictis doesn't get killed in combat

  • @FullPlateJacket

    Nullstone Gargoyle seems like a great include here, since you can cheat the mana cost and you mostly don't even cast your big stuff at all.

    • @TheCommandersQuarters
      @TheCommandersQuarters  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely a consideration! But there are times later in the game when you could be wanting to cast a big creature from your hand, so you would have to be careful in building while including Nullstone

    • @FullPlateJacket
      @FullPlateJacket 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nullstone Gargoyle only counters non-creature spells though. It really works with the composition of the deck, the only concern is enchantments/artifacts and you can still get those out with top-of-deck manipulation.

    Judging by the thumbs, one person lost to this $24.89 deck. This was the first video I've watched in your series. A lot of what I would of done with this commander is shown here as well as some obscure cheap cards I wouldn't have thought of. The upgrades are spot on as well and you are still under $35. This deck could be a seriously fun deck for under $100 after mana fixing for sure.

    Other cards I like are reassembling skeleton. It says that you can cast it for 2 from the graveyard. There is also a 1 drop card from tarkir that has a raid ability to do that. Both of these act like phytotitan for a nearly free sacrifice.
    A great card for any deck that messes with the graveyard and has the mana for it is champion of stray souls. He has a power that costs five and tapping him to sacrifice ANY number of creatures you control, then return that many creatures from the graveyard. He has a second ability that puts him on top of your deck. In order to get Vaevictus the first time, you need at least six mana, so it is very likely that you can afford it. Vaevictus likes cards that do things when they enter/die, plus you can choose the best cards in your graveyard for your most expendable on the field. With the first two cards and phytotitan out, or any of the token folk, he can pull more creatures out than you put in. Currently he is under 50¢, so he is a budget card. I would also like to point out how much power comes from butcher of malakir when you sacrifice six or so creatures at once. If you have grave betrayal, you win.

Either way very informative and well made video, good job!!!

    I have a Vaevictus deck. Probably not budget to the same extent, because I also run Scorpion God and Sheoldred. The former gets a lot of extra draws, and the latter really helps keep the board clear, whilst providing sac outlets. Scorpion God itself can be a sac outlet, especially if you put a -1/-1 counter on himself.

  • @wesley147208

    This deck could use a Revel in Riches. With so many creatures dying, you could easily get 10 treasures?

    • @Xenwarrior5
      @Xenwarrior5 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      But that card doesn't do anything!

  • @kylesavage4525
    @kylesavage4525 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Strionic Resonator would fit nice in the upgraded version while Gutter Grime is an enchantment that has a somewhat similar function to Mitotic Slime although it does not help re-trigger itself unfortunately. Revel in Riches can help ramp enough to be able to cast any of the huge stuff that ended in your hand and u can't cheat them out. Plus it is an alternative win con that will distract your opponent's from dealing with your big stuff.
    All in all very interesting deck that embodies perfectly the Jund mentality of chaos and destruction. It must be really fun to play with and even against it cause it is quite unpredictable since no one knows what will be revealed from each library's top every time.
    I would like to see a Thantis (the Jund spider from C18 that everyone but me hates) deck tech built around forcing everyone to attack while u have a board with deathtouchers which will prevent them to some degree from attacking you. I want to see if such a deck can actually be classified as focused since my version is definitely not lol.
