  • Using the Forced Defrost mode to melt ice build up in the ice maker (dispenser typer) Samsung refrigerator. If I don't use ice daily (or more) it freezes up. Make sure to empty the ice tray before doing this.
    ***The buttons to push to start procedure is the top left and middle right. Labeling changes by models so its confusing for people looking for buttons labeled as described.
    FYI- i had a lot of build-up of ice and followed this procedure 5 times.

    Hey folks, after many years of complaining to Samsung I gave. In April of 2020 I had a problem with something else and just called them to ask a question. For the heck of it I asked about the icemaker again. They said no the policy is that they will replace the ice maker for $200.00. If it freezes up again they will replace it a second time for free. if it happens a third time they will replace the refrigerator.
    During the summer and fall it kept freezing up again. In October they sent someone to replace the icemaker at no charge. When the repair man got he he did not replace it and said he will tell Samsung if he replaces it, it will still freeze up. Samsung said they had no replacement refrigerators and would give me a refund. Since I did not have my original sales slip they are sending me a check for $3,200.00. I hope this helps someone.

      What number did you call? Did you have to supply any proof of purchase beside a receipt? I've seen cords have to be cut and a first born child.

      If any of you have a Samsung and your ice maker is given you problems go on Facebook and join a group called " Samsung Refrigerator recall U.S.A now" and see how over 60,000 members are getting their money back for their defective Samsung Refrigerators. Even when they are as old as 2014 or earlier. Samsung knows they have a huge problem with their Refrigerators and they are not helping their customers. In that group they show you the steps to take to make Samsung give you a refund. Join the Facebook group and get your money back.

    The buttons to push for forced defrost is the top left and middle right. Labeling changes by models so its confusing for people looking for buttons labeled as you described. I see lots of videos on the subject that do the same.

      I have that same sentiment... i've had this refrigerator for almost 5 yrs.. believe me when I say I've gone thru all these issues...my original ice bucket cracked when I forced it out, had to buy another one, then bought the recommended replacement ice-maker as such.. and STILL have those issues... i even used the RT silicon recommended to seal off gaps that could allow that moisture and cause these things.... so, the next break down..i'm gonna shop for a NON fancy refrigerator

    Good info, what do you do after the beeping stops and the ice is water. Do you have to turn icemaker on?

    • @sherjimcarp
      @sherjimcarp  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i usually have to run Fd multiple times.. then i remove any leftover ice that's accessible, then i wipe up the remaining moisture and the ice maker will start to make ice again. so, it usually starts making ice automatically.

    My unit looks like yours with the drawer. Mine is a RF31FMEBSR and I have to push freezer and energy saver buttons and then the cubed/crushed to get to defrost mode. Just thought i would post because yours is the first video that looks like mine. Mine has the sparkling water in the door, which I hate. My ice maker has stopped working. I've tried the rest button it does not work now. It doesn't freeze up like the others I've seen. Also, replacing the water filter is a nightmare. Any suggestions?

      about two weeks ago (earlier February) i called samsung and i told them that the ice maker was freezing up and it's been an ongoing problem. they sent someone to replace it and it works fine. this was fee of charge, it was less than a week later. IMPORTANT**** only use samsung brand filters, they told me they'd deny the claim if i use the aftermarket filters.
      there are a bunch of class-action lawsuits against them, so i think that's why they were so willing to replace for free. the guy that came to fix was a subcontractor that only does samsung work, he said he had to replace 7 icemakers that day!

    When your icemaker freezes up, does it make a clicking noise? Like it is trying to push the ice out but it can't because it is frozen? I'm having that issue now; the cubes stick together and will not drop.

    • @sherjimcarp
      @sherjimcarp  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      not sure about 'clicking noise', but it usually clogs up to and the ice doesnt fall, so it stops making ice. so i typically find out it's frozen when i go to get ice and it's slow or or sounds funny or no ice comes out

    Thanks for the video! I did as you instructed, and cycled through two times then realized it would take all night. The Force Defrost did exactly as you said but I still had to drag out the hair dryer to expedite the process. No offense intended because you were correct in your instructions. Samsung has a real bad design for an ice maker, and in all fairness to the makers of this particular refrigerator, I’ve not found any refrigerator that makes one that actually works as intended!🙁 if there is one that works as intended please someone respond to this

    • @fishman2951
      @fishman2951 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey James, thought he said about 20 minutes. Yours took all night? Also, when finished the FD, does the unit automatically return to normal operation, or is there something you have to do manually?

    • @sherjimcarp
      @sherjimcarp  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fishman2951 when the beeping stops the Forced Defrost cycle has ended and the fridge is back to normal. depending on your build-up you may have to do the FD multiple times.

    When the ice melts, where does the water go? Worried that it might leak all over my floor

    • @sherjimcarp
      @sherjimcarp  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The buildup in the ice maker will start to melt. It'll take a few tries, then you should be able to remove the chunks of frozen ice. I was able to wipe it up, stay on top of it.

  • @kennybanger

    I did the sealing up around all the leaking air parts which helped, but if I don't dump the ice once a week, it freezes up again
