- Samsung refrigerator, icemaker always freezes up. This will defrost the fan in rD mode. Takes a couple of cycles usually, but it works. The icemaker that’s built in the refrigerator always seems to freeze up, FD mode defrost the icemaker, but sometimes the fan gets noisy from ice the forms behind the icemaker.
Cheers for the post mate, as soon as ours came out of warranty we got hit with all these issues too.

To anyone with different buttons in these locations… although our refrigerator looks exactly the same, the button labels are different. Use the buttons in the same position as shown in his video here, not necessarily those labeled buttons.

I agree - Samsung product is a big pain in the ass, thanks for letting me know what rd is for though. Hopefully this will stop the gallon of water accumulating under the deli tray.
Part of the issue with these is that the drain under the condenser gets clogged up with ice and the the humidity skyrockets and ice starts to build up on the condenser and around the fan… eventually it gets so bad the fan gets stuck completely and it can crack the cover or the back of the fridge if you let it go too long. They have a little tab that is supposed to reach down into the drain hole and make sure it doesn’t get clogged with ice, but on the early models it’s far too short… you can order a replacement and install it, but it’s not overly trivial… I just spent about 4 hours getting my compressor cleared of ice and getting the drain unclogged. I made a makeshift replacement for the defroster coil out of folded aluminum foil, we’ll see if that works long term or if I’ll need to get the new version and install it. Hope that saves someone the pain in the butt we went through.
Also check under the dairy drawer after you unclog the drain… I had more than three liters of disgusting water under there…
Agreed !!! the little aluminum heat sink, which is supposed to keep the drain hole clear, is useless. I replaced that with a simple trick. I took a few inches of 12g solid copper wire (from leftover Romex), tightly coiled/wrapped it around the heater element a few times (where the aluminum heat sink WAS) and routed the tail down into the drain. It steals and conducts enough heat off the "official" heating element loop to keep the drain from icing up. Worked like a champ on mine. Your mileage may vary :)
I’m about to defrost again after only about 3 months due to ice in the fan. There are fix kits now that add a secondary 15W heater wired into the primary defrost heater. Check out Ben’s Appliances TH-cam channel.
Are you able to keep food in fridge with doors closed while it’s defrosting
yes, i keep the food in there. the temp didn't seem to change in the fridge.

I have ice build up on the top and my machine isn't making ice (no ice at all) Can I do the fd to defrost the build up of ice ?
yes, Fd mode is for the ice in the ice maker. usually have to do it a few times. it's the same instructions just go to Fd instead of rd here is another vid for that th-cam.com/video/jBw5E4GuavE/w-d-xo.html

Had this for only 6 days and the fan is knocking on some ice I’m sure. Unplugged for 3 hours and the noise went away, for now. How often do to we have to FD “full defrost” this refrigerator?
i've done fd mode up to 5 times in a row... i called samsung and they replaced the ice maker for free. these ice makers have been a huge problem for them. they were very helpful and replaced it within a week of my call to them. samsung customer care # 1 (800) 726-7864

you don't need to remove the food, fridge will run it's cycle in the lines, should not effect temp in fridge.... maybe avoid opening door till the cycle finishes. *note you may have to run the cycle several times
