My Samsung fridge was the same story. It ran like a champ for 2 years and now I have to go through the defrost BS every couple of months. This video mentioned the air circulation at the back of the ice maker unit which I found informative. I will let the defrost cycle run through several times next time to make sure this area is defrosted. BTW my next fridge will NOT be a Samsung.

This is one of the best videos I've seen since I stopped trying to find a fix about 1.5 years ago. I bought my model RF25HMEDBSr/AA in 2015 and had the same problem from the start. I had the repair tech out two times but only after spending many hours on the phone through multiple calls with their Cust. Service who made me go through rediculous troubleshooting steps over the phone before they would approve a tech to come out. He put sealant along the bottom left edge and it did nothing. Then for the next 2 years I would chip out the ice and it would last for about 2-3 weeks. Then for the last year I have done without ice but I'm out to try and solve this one again. I will let you know what I find for parts.

@@riderescue I bought ours in Aug 2018 and it started freezing up 3 months or so ago. I replaced the ice bucket because it had a hole in the bottom (no idea how that happened since we hadn't taken it out before that) and thought that was the issue. Nope, still freezes up. I called Samsung and since there are no techs near us (Olympic Peninsula of Washington state), they issued a refund for the fridge. Now trying to decide what brand to get to replace it.

They told me that Samsung is now doing repairs for this issue for free. They scheduled a tech to come out and check the refrigerator and do any necessary repairs. The tech will decide if the whole ice maker will need to be replaced or if only some parts need changing. But all of this is being done free of charge. Model Number: RF34H9950S4/AA
Had Asurion come out to replace the internal ice maker parts a few months ago. On the first try Samsung sent me DA92-00611B PCB Board, DA97-15217D Ice Maker Assembly, DA61-04522A Clip - Fitting Lock, DA97-13431A Ice Chut Cap, DA97-14505A Water Dispenser and DA97-14474D Ice Tray. Don't know why they sent the water dispenser but what the heck I'll take free parts any day of the week. 😊 The Auger Motor wasn't included in the original part pull.
A few months later started to see the ice buildup again, new tray was partially locked in again and very obviously the water drain was freezing up. I had also noticed one of the LED's on the front display was dim and thought it may be caused by the new PCB board.
Scheduled a second repair and they sent me the DA97-12540G Auger Motor as well as another DA92-00611B PCB Board thinking the board might be the cause for the dim light on the front (crushed ice LED). Techs were here yesterday and had to thaw it out with a handheld pressurized steam pot (auger was locked in with ice). Adjusted the water feed line. Tech said he was surprised the factory had not caught it because the water line was so poorly aligned it would allow water to spray everywhere. Changed out the Auger Motor and then asked me where the main board was. They expected it to be on the back of the fridge. I have the service manual and found it was located under a cover on the top. Opened it up, changed out the board, and off they went.
A couple of things. I now know the first tech did not replace the PCB board. He did not open up the top of the fridge. He too had pulled the fridge away from the wall and I’m assuming couldn’t find where it went and blew it off… The PCB board is a big part of the update because of the change in the programming. As you pointed out in your video the drain tube in the Auger Motor is noticeably larger.
Now I wait to see if it’s resolved the ice buildup issue. I’m hopeful because the changes I see are noticeable. Only time will tell. 😊

It will always freeze up again because the housing for the ice maker leaks. You may get a week, month or years but it’ll happen again. Even after siliconing the housing it’s only a matter of time. The ice maker isn’t the issue. It’s the poor design of the housing from Samsung. There’s a service bulletin from Samsung about the silicone.

    • @riderescue
      @riderescue  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Typically the freeze up starts at the bottom of the filler tube. Once that ice starts to build up the tube freezes up. One of the fixes was to add a heat wrap to the fill tube so the tube does not freeze but the blockage still starts at the bottom of the tube. To my knowledge, Samsung does not have a fix but they keep selling them anyway.

My Samsung has been the most expensive constant repair nightmare in my 55 years of life. I will never even buy a Samsung TV again after how badly Samsung treated me.

Sorry to hear that you have a Samsung fridge. I have a bad microwave and dishwasher to go with my horrible fridge. No more Samsung for me either.

Or you can call SS and they will repair the unit no charge. The class action suit is over, they lost. Yea I thought it was not true either. My ice maker kept jamming and freezing. Called SS done, no charge.

Sadly not sure if they will fix mine with my warranty being expired already. Only just found out about the recall because of these comments. There was never any communication sent to me from samsung regarding the recall.

Samsung ice makers are absolute JUNK, I’ve replaced the ice maker and the entire auger motor assembly. It still freezes up and the auger is not turning. Samsung customer service is no help at all

FYI - I had a tech out last week for the third time. He said everything has been done that can be done and that Samsung would call me. They're refunding me basically the whole cost of the fridge.

I hate Samdung for not correcting this obviously design flaw. They absolutely have to know there is a problem but they just keep churning out the same trash. I’ll never buy another one of their products. We bought all new Samdung kitchen appliances and all of them have had problems. Service is so bad that they couldn’t find a service tech to fix our brand new dishwasher and ended up having to just send us a new one. Stove has a “hot surface” light that stays on and an oven door that closes fine but the stupid sensor says it’s not sporadically so just stops heating in the middle of baking. Then there’s the crappy ice maker that freezes up in the fridge as well as that water line. This is happening more frequently now. Never again SAMDUNG. It shouldn’t be this bad after just 5 years. Total trash.

Seal the top of the outside of the ice maker housing, you have an air leak in the housing.

    • @riderescue

Definitely worth trying a little sealant along that top seam. I'm hoping to find the correct control panel so I can do another update and I'll seal it up.
