    We turned off the ice maker when we left our FL house in May. Came back in October to find the ice maker with a big hunk of ice blocking the tray. Followed your instructions, even reset the ice maker (another video). The block melted but no ice for 6 days. Then today, it randomly filled the tray with ice! So glad we waited to call for a repair! We should call Samsung about the defective unit replacement though.

    I've had this fridge for 7-8 years now. My ice maker was replaced twice and they also did a system board replacement at year 4 which appears to have resolved the issue for about 3 years. Pro Tip: replace the water filter BEFORE the system notifies you to replace it - at 5 months. If you have hard/soft water I suggest adjusting filter replacement accordingly. For diagnostics, the FF = Force Freeze (F freezer, r Refrigerator, C Cool Select) tests the compressor to see if its running, OF r = Only Fan (Refrigerator), Rd = Refrigerator Defrost, Fd = Full defrost. This is a great video.

    Great news. We purchased out $2700 samsung fridge in 2015. The ice maker has been a constant headache. I heard on a blog that samsung is now offering warranty replacement o your poorly designed ice maker. I called the 1-800-samsung number, gave them my serial number and model numbers and sent some pics. I am scheduled for a complete replacement of the etire icemaker, drawer, mother board and other items all covered under warranty, It is worth a try

    Pretty Helpful, thanks for this. On a whim after doing this, I called Samsung. While my Fridge was purchased in 2017, 2018, they said the ice maker was covered, parts and Labor and are coming to replace it. Outside of the problematic ice maker, we love the fridge.

It stopped giving out ice a few months ago and I had been putting ice trays until I could get a repair person out here to look at it. Since no longer under warranty, Samsung wanted a TON of money to come out and repair if needed. Found your video on TH-cam and am now happy as your instructions worked!!     Well it mostly defrosted but it's been 40 minutes and still beeping.
    I pushed same 2 buttons and it turned off. I will run forced defrost again tomorrow and see if it defrost the rest of the way but I'm tired of the beeping for now.

    Thanks so much! Looked at other similar solutions (written articles and 2 videos) but the one's I looked at left the final step out, pushing the button til FD came up. Had used the reset button the night before and it solved the problem and made ice. But, there was still a huge chance of ice on the bottom of the section that makes ice. Now running FD to get rid of that. Thanks so much for making this simple and understandable.

    Worked like a charm. It didn't take as long because even on cool the air warmed up a bit. Probably because the hose was from a small wet/dry vac and created a little backpressure. Only took about an hour. Used a towel instead of a sponge. Thanks

    Thanks for this tip (FD) I have a 4 door Samsung RF22K9381 which I had to get the Ice Maker replaced before it went out of warranty a year ago. Yesterday once again there was no ice!! This time I repeated your instructions about going to FD mode and I also hit the blue reset button on top side of the ice maker afterwards and "volia" ice began producing within 2 hours. Thanks so much for doing this video! On my Samsung I had to hold "Freezer and FlexZone" to get it in diagnostic mode. Had to try it a couple of times to get it to go in that mode.

    I've had my samsung 4plex for 4 years and for a year the ice maker has been freezing over. Every week or two we have to chop the ice out. I sometimes have to defrost it twice. So annoying along with the beeping. They should have an internal alarm after 30 minutes to an hour. But thanks for the refresh on how to defrost. I forgot a step and couldn't get it to work so I googled it and found you. You made it easy. Thanks again!!Becky

    I am in Europe (UK) and have MODEL: RF56J9040SR
    This worked. Thank you so much.
    I first started having ice compartment issues 8 months after purchase: January 2019.
    Samsung contract engineer came round, replaced a bunch of stuff in the ice compartment and updated the software
    and said this is a well known issue and he does this fix on 100's a month.
    2 years 8 months later ice compartment starts to freeze back up.
    Hopefully, now forced defrosted and dried, I wont have this issue for another few years!

    Thanks for this instructions. I have a stand up freezer that I have to defrost about once a year. I take all out and push a button and what it does is reverse the pheon to defrost. It doesn't take long but believe that is what it is doing to. Again thanks for the information.

    Thanks for reading the manual for those of us that are too lazy to! Ran the FD for about 10 min. and couldn't stand the alarm. Pointed my hair dryer on high heat at it for 5 minutes and when I turned off the dryer the beeping had stopped. Guessing the forced defrost stops when it senses a certain temp.

    Fingers crossed this works we just got 1 the other week working but told the ice maker not so no big deal my partner opened the ice compartment and it was crazy frosted over even after being on the back of the truck for a couple hrs before getting it home but even if it doesn't work the fridge itself and water work at least and that's all we really wanted it for but ice would be a nice bonus

    Thanks for posting this. We have a Samsung with model RF28K9380SR and the buttons that you hold down are now "Freezer" and "FlexZone" (in the same positions that are in your video) and that combination worked just as well and got it into FD mode after a couple tries. What a hassle. Fingers crossed that forced defrost solves our problem.

      I had to replace the ice maker right after delivery. It did not work. Warranty work through an authorized Samsung dealer. Ice maker worked great. Only two people living here and only one uses the ice maker on average. Two years later and the thing is caked in frost! Force defrost twice. Worked great but one month later, defrost returned but not as bad as I checked after 3 weeks! Obviously the electronic software containing the cycling is junk. Now I know I’ll have to do this once a week and it should remain ok. But, is it only the ice maker it is defrosting or the entire refrigerator? Because it’s quite possible that this is the real reason for these refrigerator defrost issues and not the heat element placement. Consider that they work fine for quite a while before failing! Junk electronics much more expensive to replace than a wire and foil tapes!

    Thanks for this. We'd been putting containers of hot water in there to get all the ice to defrost for a few years now. Just after the warranty expired, this started happening, and Samsung came and replaced the whole icemaker unit for us. But it continues to happen every month or so, and we've just been defrosting it each time. However, after the last time it stopped making ice, so I shall try this and add some caulking to the bottom left, as some people have suggested.

    Please be aware that Samsung has a Nationwide recall on ALL ice makers due to a defect. just call them and they will replace all your ice maker parts including the control computer board at no charge> Problem solved

      I can't find any verification of a recall. There is a class action suit and a Facebook page however.

      @@alexron2023 They finally agreed to come yesterday after I filed a complaint with the BBB. The fridge had stopped cooling completely for days at a time. They replaced the entire ice maker, a circuit board in the back and I think the fan unit inside. So far so good, thanks again.

When they came to service my frig they also replace the cooling controller computer located in the back , the new computer has a longer defrost time scheduled. The also replaced the entire ice maker unit including the Oger motor, defrost fan ,ice maker tray and they sealed the corners of the ice maker compartment with silicone.
      2 months later and problem solved

      Okay I’m going to try this and call them! I bought my refrigerator brand new and the ice maker started freezing up. Now it’s so frozen that I can’t even pull the ice bin out. Huge inconvenience to buy a brand new fridge for the ice and water dispenser to have it not even work! 🤞 they replace it!

      This is 100% True I just called 1800 Samsung and they asked for the make and model and they are sending over a repair tech to fix it totally free. I’m shocked ! I guess the class action law suit scarred them into admitting their is a problem.

    It's like trying to sort through an esoteric secret menu... And this stuff isn't in the user manual. I have the RF56K9040SG model, which looks very similar to Mr Gizmo's one, but the buttons are in different places. On mine the [Door Alarm] and [Cool Select+] have swapped positions. My [Door Alarm] is on the right, [Cool Select+] is left. Instead of [Energy Saver] and [Ice Maker] I have [Control Lock] and [Light] instead... Anyway tried hold pressing together the [Freezer] and [Cool Select+] like Mr Gizmo said, nothing happened. So tried pressing the same button positions as in the video... It works! So on the RF56K9040SG you have to press [Freezer] and [Door Alarm], use [Door Alarm] to cycle the mode to "Fd" to defrost...

    Thank you. I have previously been powering the whole thing down, moving all of the perishables to another fridge/freezer, drying it out and then powering back up. That works for a couple of months, but is a major PITA. I have done the recommended steps with the replacement kit, sealer, etc... and the thing still frosts up.

    5 days later--bin is full of ice and working fine. Well, as fine as this ice maker is capable of working.

    Thanks. After letting the FD run for 2nd time, I am eventually able to take the ice cartridge out. But there is a huge chunk of ice sticking to the above inside of the icemaker. After FD runs for 4th time, it is still there but thawing and shaky. I use the hair dryer to blow it off in 5 minutes. I will call to check the replacement .

    Also I bought that V piece that I plan on trying to install it says it’s the premium Q rain for a refrigerator it kind a looks like a clip that hangs on some thing. You have to take that back door of the refrigerator off. I was thinking maybe this will help it apparently freezes up it Has to be defrosted.

    I couldn’t get into FirceDefrost mode so based on others here I called 1800 Samsung and they are sending a free technician for av4 yr old fridge!!! Buying Samsung again !
    Btw according to the tech on the phone my sequence fir FD is 3 buttons freezer, fridge and door alarm - but it wouldn’t go to FD hence a technician will come out

    Hi. My Samsung was bought in 2013. My refrigerator shows anywhere from 46 to 48°F and my freezer shows a -5°F and neither will go any lower. Obviously things in the refrigerator are not cold so I made the bottom half freezer a fridge for drinks etc. which has helped but any ideas what I can do for that top fridge? Thank you

      @@MrGizmo211 So far I've done the defrost 3 times and the block of ice is still there. I can't remove the ice bucket, but I can see it through the ice hole. I called 800 Samsung and they said they are sending techs out for free (parts and labor) to replacd these even if the fridge isn't under warranty. So I am waiting for that.Thank you for your video!

      The defrost never worked on mine. Tech couldn’t make it to my house but they did refund me my money and let me keep the fridge. I still have no ice lol sucks!

      @@quesokelso5425 I called Samsung and they came out and replaced it for free. They said they are covering replacement even on older refrigerators and are aware of the ice maker issue. Maybe try calling again

    Did you know that the icing issues is due to condensation? Warmer air is getting into the ice maker, making ice to thaw and making water drip along the side of the ice tray. Then it refreezes and continues to build up, making it so you can not remove the ice tray. This process also causes ice to clump up in the ice tray until it gets clogged up and won't dispense ice. There is another video on how to fix the issue. Thank you for explaining how to Force Defrost the ice maker. I'll try it. I used a hair dryer to thaw it out.

    Does it automatically revert back to normal operation once the beeping is finished or do you have to go back into settings and restore normal function?

    Leave the tray in during FD to catch the water.

    For our Samsung fridge we had to press the Energy Saver button and Fridge buttons. Once the screen blanks, then scroll through the code numbers pressing the fridge button.

    I am 5 minutes into to the beeping and going crazy - lol. My problem is a little different, I empty my tray a couple of times a week to add ice to my ice chest (remove drawer and empty) I have a bad habit of leaving my door open when doing this. I live in a very humid area and suspect that it is frozen where I cant see it because of all the humidity ( I see signs of it on everything in my fridge) - wish me luck I am about 10 minutes in now.       I'm STILL trying to figure out how to make mine (#RF28R7201SR/AA) defrost, BUT, from what I have seen all over, I'd say first try to lift it upward and then pull it out (not too forcefully), OR look near the top right facing corner, there could be a small "button" you need to depress before lifting that unlocks it.
      If it hangs up or refuses pretty quickly, it may be the amount of ice holding it "locked" in. Good luck.

    I did this last year and it worked well. Now I can’t get to the beep when pressing freezer and cool select. Aargh! Any suggestions?

      I think it took a while for me to get ice after the defrost. How long have you not gotten ice??

    See my comment below. Also, I did not have that much ice in the inside compartment. But in FD mode there was a lot of water from ice somewhere? Maybe the ice was blocking the infra red sensor??

    I have a 2017 Samsung 4 door flex RF22K9381SG and it's not making ice. I think you have a newer model then mines. How do I get the ice maker out and do the auto defrost.

    This worked for me. But had to do 6 times before we could get the icemaker out. After the first time, the beeping only lasted about 15 minutes.

    TLDR
    hold freezer and cool select until it goes off.
    then hit cool select
    until you get to Fd
    that is forced defrost
    it will beep for 30 min as it defrost the ice maker
