  • Taking out a Frozen Samsung Ice Maker can be very difficult and you could easily damage or destroy it if not done the right way. If your Samsung Refrigerator has an interface similar to this one, there's a secret Forced Defrost mode that will heat up the Ice Maker cabinet, allowing you to remove it very, very easily.
In this video, we go through all the needed steps to get the ice maker out, as well as how to take it apart if you're facing bigger problems than just needing to take it apart.
You'll learn the following from this video:
    (How to):
    Defrost a Samsung Icemaker
Remove a Samsung Ice Master Icemaker
    Test a Samsung Icemaker
    Tear Down a Samsung Icemaker
How to Fix a Samsung Icemaker (but I am not doing an extensive diagnosis or video on that here - just a few general ideas).

Remember: If your refrigerator has dirty condenser coils, it could be failing to cool this Samsung refrigerator properly, costing you a lot of money as well as why the ice maker won't automatically operate - consider buying an appliance cleaning kit to prevent your appliance from an early failure. We have the LG, I'm happy to see that I am able to fix this myself, I am going broke hiring people to do things around the house. I am a new subscriber, your channel (this video) is so valuable. Great video with tons of correct information. It is also important to know that a class action lawsuit was won against Samsung in Florida based on faulty icemakers. If you can not get it to work, Samsung will send out a repair person to replace the ice maker free of charge. Once that has failed twice, you may demand a refund or a replacement of the refrigerator.
    Keep up the great videos!!

In my experience, Samsung is terrible. We had this exact problem, it took six weeks to finally get them to send a tech to our house, which was supposed to be free of charge, and then they claimed that it was my fault because there was “physical damage” to the unit. I ran up as far as I could on the supervisor chain in customer service, and they basically refused to do anything. I will never give them any more money on their appliances.

Thank you so much for posting this video! My Samsung refrigerator came with the house, and I had continuous problems with the ice bucket freezing up, but this time was unable to dislodge it.
After running the forced defrost (I let it run 30 mins) it was easy to remove and only one piece of ice remained.
Now I will regularly defrost, for a shorter time period. Only issue I had was I couldn't reset the keypad, so I flipped the breaker for a minute or two, now all is well!

Thank you for taking the time to do this video. It fixed my problem. I did find it difficult to get the lower lip of the ice maker back up and secured with the single screw. You cannot have nay front on the cooing coil due the tight tolerances on the lower part where the rubber caps connect with the coil. Just make sure the coil is free of frost. you can run a quick Force Defrost on it and when it is clear and shiny you can secure the bottom of the ice maker without too mush pressure. I do not understand why we were problem free for 2.5 years then we ran into this problem. I think it had to do with the frequency of having the refrigerator door open and introducing higher temperatures + humidity getting into the ice box area. IDK.. Will watch this and maybe report back. Thanks again!

It seems that its an age problem that moisture starts building up, causing it to frost over as other parts degrade. I have a video or two about the drain kit + heater for evaporator panel. If you pull the panel and its heavily iced over, that can be an issue in parallel.

Thanks for the very informative DIY... I was also having trouble with an odd humming and binding sound sound when it came time for the ice maker to dump the ice cubes when they were ready. While the ice cube mechanism was out, I decided to pull apart the gear mechanism which sits at the front of the ice maker. There are 3 gears including the one attached to the servo motor that somehow started to bind creating too much tension. The larges gear of the 3 which attached to the external arm that scoops the ice out of the tray was practically seized inside its hole. So I carefully wet sanded (to keep the plastic slick and polished) the part of the gear that slid through the hole where the arm attaches and eventually made it turn super smoothly. I put everything back together and did the test illustrated in this video using the little button on the side of the ice box, and voila!! Back in business! No more humming or binding noises!!

Top icemaker bin was frozen shut after 4 day power outage then two days power restoration when not at home. Defrost instructions worked great, exactly as described on the first try. The Samsung manual provides no clue how to do this. My only recourse would have been to unplug the refrigerator for several hours with the doors open and hope that might work. My sincere thanks to the video maker for putting this on TH-cam.

SUCCESS ! thanks for the help.
my issue was, water works, you can hear the auger spinning but no ice comes out. Have had the fridge for around 2-3 years but never defrosted it. I have tried pulling it out in the past but it always seemed stuck.
Spent a whole Saturday defrosting the ice box and using a hair dryer (on medium mode) to try warm it enough and eventually I saw the dripping water. (GET SOME TOWELS !) then between hair drying and jamming big knives around it for leverage, it eventually popped out.
What a great feeling =) gotta have my ICE !
Then probably a couple more hours chipping away at the ice near the back and sides.
Turned the ice maker back on and BOOM, around 3 hours later, full ice bucket!
One tip that may not be in your video, when you put it back in it wont go all the way unless you flip the WHITE ice stopper (leg) thingy at the chute to the open position then it clicks in place. Do this by turning the metal rod at the back of the ice bucket then hold the white Leg part (by the chute) then it will slide all the way to the back.
Also I -thankfully- didnt have to defrost the top ice maker machine. I was worried about that. After defrosting it, that's all I needed to get ice flowing again. For others, you may need to defrost the actual ice maker at the very top.
Other than this, the fridge has been wonderful. And will check this part of it every year i think to avoid a recurrence.
    Good luck from Canada y'all!
Oh, also, I called them for support and the dude just said, "ya gotta defrost it" so I did !

  • @frowertr1
    @frowertr1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Everyone should check the water pressure to their refrigerator. Recently, my neighborhood pressure was increased dramatically (up to 80 - 90 PSI which is very high). When that happened, my ice maker started freezing up when before I never had this issue. What is happening (I believe) is that when the refrigerator fills the ice trays with water, the water ends up splashing out of the trays because the pressure is too high. This water that splashes out then just freezes and, over time, you get a massive buildup of ice.
So pull out your refrigerator from the wall and turn down the water inlet valve. I restricted mine down to about 20% open. Now, with the valve restricted down, I don't get any splashing when I go to use the door water dispenser which is another plus. Before because of the high water pressure, water would splash out of our drinking cups when we went to get water from the door dispenser.
So far since I have done this, I haven't had any more freeze ups at all whereas before, I was having to defrost the icemaker every two weeks.

Before I put it into forced defrost, do I need to put a cup or something under the ice spout to catch the water from the defrosting ice chunk? Or what should I do to catch the water? Thanks

Thank you so much for this video! I had to use the forced defrost feature 4 times, obviously just not long enough until the 4th time, it shut off after 20 minutes. I was then able to remove the ice maker and see I what I was dealing with. It was jammed with ice which I have now removed with a hairdryer. Easy to follow directions! I just wish this was a much better designed ice maker. I have had problems since we purchased it.

Great video! My ice maker keeps getting jammed assuming from the ice/frost build up all over the bottom of the ice maker. I’ve been just chiseling everything off regularly. Did the defrost today which made it easy. But when I tested it, it did nothing. It’s still making ice tho but since I just defrosted it maybe that will help. No issues with the fridge besides the ice maker. Is it better to just replace the ice maker? Fridge is about 4 years old.

Thanks for the video. Pressing the little tab on the top right, and pushing the ice maker box up as well as giving it a tug and it finally came loose. I believe the problem we had was that likely our fridge had not been closed firmly so the ice in the ice maker had started melting together and then freezing back into a big blob so it had problems pushing the ice forward. Especially the front part was clogged totally in ours.

I just had an ice maker repair done (under extended warranty purchase) on a 2016 model. The repair bill was $340 to the insurance company. They replaced the ice maker, an extra part (larger tube), and some 12 connection circuit board that came as a single kit. Oct. 2021.
Took the repair guy an hour to do this, but I'm sure he's done it many times. So a replacement circuit board is now part of the "repair" kit. A few days before this I find my refrig at 45 degrees. I find the common "frozen" coils and upper tube. The refrig screen showed 35 degrees, the refrig was 45 degrees. The sensor was in ice. So 3 1/2 hours later I defrosted the back coils to get the plastic/foam cover off. Can't just pull it off, hair dryer at medium. Also cleaned the defrost tube that was frozen. There seems to be kits (extra heater coils) you can buy and replacement defrost tube de-icers. I'm hoping the replacement circuit board can fix the frozen ice maker and main coils freezing problem. I'm hearing the "energy conservation" of all the new refrig are the problem. Not running the defroster coils as much as they should to remove all ice.

    • @brandon4563

Fresh food warming up and cover in frost means you've got a clogged drain tube in your mechanical compartment, you will need a water leakage kit DA82-01415A. It's also recommended you replace the defrost sensor and depending on damage to the cover to replace it as well.

Thanks your well done video explanations. I need to defrost the ice maker. My Samsung French door R/F with IceMaster has a control panel with buttons in different location on the screen as yours. When I press the upper left (freezer) and middle right (lighting) for 8 seconds nothing happens. When I press the energy saver (lower left) and fridge (upper right) it says AP (for ESmart). The only other button combo that does anything is freezer and fridge, which flashes all the panel icons. I can’t doing anything else from there. Any suggestions for putting this into ice maker defrost? All real suggestions are appreciated

thank you Ben for all of your time and info, I have the RF28HFEDTSR/AA 02 and I just ordered the parts package to fix defrost in the fridge, as far as the ice maker freezing up, do you suggest replacing the motherboard or just add the black carbon pad to add additional heat to ice maker compartment. however, since defrosting the fridge and removing to ice maker to get all the Ice cleared I've noticed the heater coil is frosting over and frost is starting to build up in the Air duct to the fan motor housing, is there a way to prevent it from icing if so the fan will still be able to circulate the airflow it needs to the ice maker? or is that just to provide air for the fan to opperate?

You can wait for it to time out OR you can go back into the defrost mode and switch the selection until nothing's on the screen (no FF or rF code), and it SHOULD get you out of the selector in about 10 seconds.
