    After 5 years of constant problems with our Samsung, I scrapped it for SS value and got a whirlpool. A smart decision!

      cbsctomh that’s funny. We did exactly the opposite for the same reason.After 9 months we had no ice. Whirlpool replaced the ice maker twice under warranty in two years. The third time the ice maker failed we gave up. We replaced the refrigerator with a Samsung four door in December 2017.

      We also gave up on our Samsung and got a whirlpool 3 years ago. The only real fix for a Samsung fridge is to replace it

    What amazes me is our Whirlpool refrigerator is in the garage and still working after 30 years. The Samsung is a constant problem and started at the 2 year mark. In fact we bought all Samsung appliances and the only one that has worked flawlessly is the dishwasher. Whenever I go to Lowe's and I see a couple looking at appliances I make a point to say, "Do yourselves a favor don't buy Samsung!"

      I'll never buy a POS Samsung appliance again, this refrigerator has given me nothing but problems and it all started as soon as the warranty period was over, fuck Samsung.

    Don't forget to try raising the front of the fridge slightly so that it is higher than the back. This has stopped the freeze-up problem for many people, and is much less costly and a lot less hassle than getting a replacement part.

    It works! Did exactly what the video said to do, all of it, including sealing the back of the fridge and cleaned/replaced the drain tubes (they were really dirty and not functional; the bottom receptacle for each was also clogged and I blew that out with some canned air), and also cleaned the built up dust from the condenser, and sealed the inside with silicone as directed; and BAM! I have ice this morning and fully functional! Will report the news on if this is a permanent fix in a few weeks. Note: I read-up on the silicone and the DOW 3140 RTV is important to use because it cures best with air and high humidity - like in a fridge - so would only use this type of silicone. So far so good. we'll see.

    • @ronbishop5609
      @ronbishop5609 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How is it working after 3 months?
      Also, refrigerators dehumidify so I think the DOW 3140 RTV sealant would cure slower in a fridge.

    Thank you so much for this video. I followed it to a T, and everything went exactly as the video (with the exception of the wiring which required disconnecting two separate connectors). Everything went smoothly and although it's only run 16 or so hours, no frost so far. Keeping my fingers crossed.
    It did take me over 6 hours to do but this included emptying the refrigerator section, and I had a particularly tough piece of ice to remove once the freezer tray was removed. This ice was still present after running 5 forced defrost cycles. It had formed in a slot located under the freon tube so I melted it by running hot water over the butt of a knife and holding it to the ice. This was to avoid any contact with the freon tube.
    As a note, I left everything in my freezer section and avoided opening the drawers. The temperature never fell below freezing.

    We stored our Samsung in a storage building for 2 years while we lived in an apartment and built our new house. Now that we're in our new home and using our Samsung fridge we're having the ice maker freeze up about every 2 or 3 months or so, and I have to defrost it and scrape out all the ice/frost. Very informative and helpful video! I’ve been having this issue for over a year now, to the point I had to stop the ice maker function since it was building up too much ice and making the unit inoperable. I watched this video about a week ago, and started to work right away on it, in my case I didn’t have the small silicone tube, but I had a 10.1 FL OZ Clear GE all purpose 100% silicone waterproof Freeze and sun proof one, I poured some of it into a small zip bag and made a small cut in one of the corners and then I started to squeeze it, it worked perfect cause I was able to reach all the spaces where I saw light coming trough. I also checked the water hose in the back, and yes, the gray one was pushed in too far. (In the position I was working which was from the side of the fridge, I was pulling the hose really hard and I couldn’t move to the line, so I decided to get behind the fridge and then it was really easy to pull it back where the line was supposed to be. Then I applied silicone all over as well). Another issue I found on mine was the small foam that goes on the ice maker, on top of the small fan that forms almost a square on top of the unit, it was missing a piece. So I removed it all with, cleaned all the residues and then I cut a 3M moulding double tape that I bought a couple years ago for my car trims, and it worked perfect to replace the broken foam.
    Thanks for sharing your knowledge with this amazing video, now I can enjoy ice all year round and I didn’t have to spent a penny on a costly service call!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    Another way to check for the gap he talks about at approx 5 minutes in is to use a flashlight to shine light under the ice maker. Look for the light bleeding through in the corners. It will be very obvious. Sealing up the are is the best way to gain life from this troublesome unit! Also, use a steamer to defrost. I happen to have a bissell that I bought specifically for this purpose. That will defrost it quickly without damaging the plastic.

    • @joelfan1
      @joelfan1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't own a steamer but an alternative approach I do is take a terrycloth bath towel, soak it in water, ring it out enough so its thoroughly wet but not dripping. Then I squish it into a ball and microwave it for a few minutes (while repositioning towel midway to get inner hot too). Then I place the steaming hot towel inside the icemaker. Let it sit for 6-8 minutes. While sitting, I prep another towel to be ready to swap out. The steamed towel will melt the ice as well as soak up most of the melted water at the same time.

    Thank You, I was able to remove the ice maker and defrost the inside. There was an air channel for the fan that was totally blocked with ice and doesn't get defrosted when you first perform the ice removal. This I think has been causing most of my problems. This channel allows the fan to circulate the air into the ice maker. Also sealed all the sides and bottom with silicon. I could see water dripping down the side.

    I have a samsung very much like yours here, mine defrosts and temperature goes up and to about 10 c in cabinet and - minus 10 in freezer; the defrosting is intermittent through out the day it may start up again for about 12 hours or so and then begin defrosting again I can not trust to put raw meats in fridge; I explained problem with one old technician and he would not even come out to see it as he says Sam Sung are nothing but too much of a problem to fix...another guy was with us for one and a half hours and could not find the problem, it happened that the fridge had begun working..took out the back plate covering the computer board and the little red light was on which indicated the fridge was in working OK mode; He told me to keep in touch next time it happens again...I did so I described what was happening The fan near the motor would stop. it would. go on and off...I had pulled out the plug from wall for an hour or so to reset the computer. Noting happened when I switched it on..I then see the red light was not on. The technician on the phone said he may now the problem..something in the computer was not working right...I asked how much would it cost to repair if that was the problem. He said about five hundred dollars and this was on top of the one hundred and seventy five dollars I had already given him...there is no guarantee that was the problem or that I would get at least another four years at least from the fridge..It is already just eight years old...so I will be chucking it on the council clean up when time comes around,,

My problem was that when the defrosted water was drained, it didn't drain properly and once the drain was iced over, the water went all over the floor of the ice maker. I suspect that I didn't have the know-how what to look for and how to take it apart. When I defrosted all the ice and put it back together, the control panel was locked. After searching the internet I finally found the sequence, unplug the refer and wait 3 - 5 minutes Plug it back in and wait again while it reboots. Press and hold the child lock button for 3 seconds and poof!, it worked. Thanks for the visual help.

    Try adjusting your water pressure to your fridge. Our water pressure is crazy high. When we filled a tall glass with water it quit often splashed outside of the glass if you didn't hold the glass right up to the top. I turned the shutoff valve back until the water pressure going into the glass was good but not crazy. I'm hoping that this will help the splashing into the ice maker from the top ice maker fill port.

    can anyone conform this worked for about a year? sometimes just defrosting will work for 3 to 6 months. So all these steps can be useless. Also other manufacturers, when you open freezer door, you also expose the ice maker, and air get in easily, so frosting from external air isn't the problem. I think Samsung didn't automate a defrost cycle. There is a manual defrost available and solves the problem, automating the defrost and directing the heat to the problem area would solve the issue. I don't know why Samsung didn't buy the ice maker from a company that has been doing this for years instead of reinventing the wheel!!

    People, don't waste your time doing all this sealing. The frosting does happen due to air getting in, but how are you going to stop air from getting in when you dispense ice? everytime you get ice, air gets into the ice making chamber. The volume of air getting is at least the same volume of the ice you dispensed. No matter what you do the problem will persist. Solution: set a bi weekly alarm on your smartphone to chisel off ice buildup until you are ready to get rid of the refrigerator.

The ice maker and the fan replaced twice, the drain tubes replaced, there was a plastic clip inside the ice maker that was replaced twice and the gaps were caulked. The longest this fix lasted was a year. The last time it was done was about 10 months ago when it was still under warranty. Then 5 year extended warranty has expired now and the ice make is now freezing up again. I wish I had the money to replace it.

    • @jessicahawes4703
      @jessicahawes4703 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can run the defrost cycle on your refrigerator. You can reference your manual to find the defrost cycle. Mine is done by holding the "Freezer" and "Lighting" button for 10 seconds. You have to do it just right or it won't recognize you pressing it. Then press "Lighting" until you get to the "Fd" cycle.

    • @joelfan1
      @joelfan1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Silicone expands and contracts with varied temps. Most caulking you find in hardware stores these days are made of acrylic or latex which may crack or not expand as much. Silicone is the best for this purpose. And get white silicone so later when you shine a light to check for leaks, you wont be fooled by clear silicone. Im not sure if it really matters if its samsung, whirlpool or general silicone. Just make sure its 100% silicone.

    But what is the cause for freezing up?

    • @TomMcIntyrecrna
      @TomMcIntyrecrna 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the cause for freezing up is water in the wrong place. If the water inlet hose is misaligned it sprays a mist that freezes. Humid air infiltrating condenses and freezes. The ice blocks the drain and eventually the fan, Drain tubes clog with ice/mineral deposits from hard water/debris/mold/gunk…. All of the service bulletins (and the new ice maker service kit) are about water management

    • @ryotaryuu
      @ryotaryuu 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TomMcIntyrecrna thank you. I ran a defrost cycle and used a hair dryer to meld all the frozen deposits. Samsung ice makers are total junk and their refrigerators also fit in this category. The other problem with Samsung when you call to get technical support you can not get any results. The problems seem to start shortly after the warranty expires which is only one year. When you pay $2,500.00 for a refrigerator you do not expect this.

Even with the new ice maker it froze up in 40 days. Tired of fooling with this problem. Husband has called company many times to no avail. They did offer to buy it back for far less than we paid.
