    Thank you for all your excellent videos, Tom. It's always nice to find an altruistic and savy guy sharing his wisdom.
    I wonder if you've explored the idea of replacing the cooling fan in the E3D V6 hotend in order to reduce noise. I don't know if mine came defective, but it makes an incredible amount of noise for its size!

    I had problems with 1.75 filament getting stuck in the heatbreak whenever i need to change filament. I have a e3d v6 universal kit with PTFE liber tube. As far as I know by searching the web this problem can be solved if the PTFE tube has a chamfer on its border (it makes sense, however it is not mentioned in the e3d's wiki). Anyone with the same problem?

    How much should I expect to pay for a replacement nozzle in brass? It ranges from $15 / pr piece to $2 / per 10 pieces.

    Hi Tom. I love your videos. I just built my own printer using parts I printed from my Printrbot. While waiting for my E3D v6 to arrive, I decided to install and old ubis hot end and printed some nice prints, and quickly as well. Yesterday my E3D arrived and I was excited to get it running, but when I did, I had some issues. I couldn't run it nearly as fast as my ubis. I figured out that I could only extrude at around 6.5mm/sec before it started making the extruder skip/grind the filament. Running some tests, I could clearly see that the temperature would drop during fast extrudes, causing the plastic to be harder to push. It didn't matter how high I bumped up the hot end temperature, it still occurred If I tried to extrude the PLA filament faster than 7mm/sec.
    I am running the 1.75 12v direct drive version. Does it sound like I'm doing something wrong, or does this seem about right for this hot end. The prints are excellent when I slow it down, but I was hoping I could print at least a little bit faster.
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Has anyone tested the max print speed at 0.4mm the V6 can keep up with thermally?

  • @un-review
    @un-review 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Tom, I am comparing clones quality now and wondering if you noticed that heatbreak throat is quite loose inside of both - the heatsink and the heat block? Assuming that the threads are industry standard, my question is: do Original E3D hotends have the same problem? If yes, it will mean that surface contact area inside of the thread is not really good and can be improved by custom machining. I noticed that there is almost a 0.75mm wobble distance between throat and the heatsink in clones. :( thermal paste can solve that of course, but better machining is a better option. Clones are $7 with free shipping, can't complain about those, but if $80 originals are the same, it may be a problem.

      @gth042 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Vlad, both of my genuine E3D V6's have the annoyingly low thread engagement you describe on both the heat break and nozzle along with unimpressive thread cutting. I'd buy a clone in a heartbeat and simply smooth the heat break bore with polishing compound worked in to some thin rope. One way to keep things tight is to use a compressible washer: kapton-wrapped fiberglass cloth between the sink & block. Good you saved some money ;)

    Hello Tom. Early videos are much better to understand and pleasant to listen to for me (dutch guy) then newer ones. I think it's because there is far less cutting in sentences. I like your subjects and the detailed information. It's just that the newer ones are a bit more tiring to watch and sometimes I need to rewind to understand them. Keep up the good work!

      +Thomas Sanladerer a few months back I saw that there was no one really doing videos about 3D printing. and I see you took the chance and its going good. seems like you are making a nice brand like linus did. I just wanted to ask as ces is filled with new and revolutional printers and you could probably find some sponsors to stand behind the trip.

      +Thomas Sanladerer you will see what will be best for you. The problem is that youtube needs alot of time. writing scripts, recording, editing I dont know if you can hold up longer as a one man army :) a few helpers will probably come with time I would say.

    I am hapoy for your information. I just but an arduino mega 2560? ramps kit and it looks like the real deal. It only took me a few hours to get it up and loaded with a big lcd. The worst part for me was actually findimg the marlin zip online as I was using my cell. After this review I may buy a v6 tomorrow. only thing im worried about is my steppers I have no idea what to get and I hope I can cnc aluminum with the same frame. Either way id still be kicking rocks if it wasnt for this guy!

    i hear allot about it jamming on pla, and even on abs.
    i worked with this hotend. and it has never jammed not with pla or with abs. it just works.
    which is simply what i was looking for! because those j-heads required so much maintance !
    it was driving me crazy!.
    so yea i would say if it jams you didn't build it the right way.

    • @Shockszzbyyous
      @Shockszzbyyous 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      what kind of hotend do you have ? 1.75 3mm bowden ?

    • @MakerMark
      @MakerMark 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** So I managed to hopefully get past my issue. The hotend was assembled correctly however the stainless tube is rough on the inside, i can feel quite a bit of friction with a piece of filament, so i used an exact size drill bit to sort of smooth it out. Successfully printed a 5 mm thick 100mmx100mm calibration shape, whereas prior to that I would get jammed on the first layer repeatedly. PS I am not the only person having this issue, e3d forums have many complaints...
      1.75mm / bowden setup.

    • @Shockszzbyyous
      @Shockszzbyyous 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      hmm maybe this solves it for other too :) i can say that mine is smooth on the inside. let me know if you are able to print bigger things :) good luck!

      no, but they beauty of 3d printing and open source (as long as you have a reprap based open source printer) is that you can modify and print new parts to make different hot ends fit. =)

    Just buy a clone for $20. There is no rocket science in these things. The E3D nozzle design isn't optimal either - too much flat area at the tip which decreases performance on bridges and steep overhangs due to Coanda effect.
