DYC has a new product, hyperdip, that sprays much smoother. Used it on emblems and the chrome window molding and it had zero texture and was smooth as paint.
BRO!!!! You have solved my life problems!!! I’ve always wanted to customize my decal to black - but it costs $125 for each one 😑 and I’m like “nope! I’m going to do what you did here!!” Thank you for the hack!!
Just did mine and it came out flawlessly. Very easy to plastic dip your emblem. No worry about overspraying your car because they can be easily peel off.
Worked like a charm!!! And, saved me several hundred dollars. I love the “night” look of my car emblems. If you can edit your video, maybe mention to not use anything sharp when pealing off the excess. Even using tweezers can scratch existing paint. Thanks again for the excellent tutorial!
I have done this more than just a few times. When cleaning, I always start with Dawn dish washing soap, and the reason for this, is because it cuts through the wax on your car, leaving just the clear coat, which is not quite as smooth as the wax. After the area has been thoroughly rinsed, then I spray it with 90% alcohol to remove any residue, and then, finally, I apply the Plasti-Dip. Wait a day or two before rewaxing the painted surfaces, and you're done.
Yep. Plastidip is very cool. Only thing you have to be sure about is putting it on thick enough so you can peel it. Too thin and it is hard to peel without tearing.
Something else that I like with the gray, blackout look is red brake calipers. I have a Tundra TRD Pro in gray/blackout with red factory accents and Fox suspension but not the red calipers. We fixed that. You can opt to have them powder coated but I used brake paint. Clean them thoroughly with brake cleaner first and tape everything. It takes much longer preparing than it does painting. If the paint comes off in the future I'll have them powder coated.
Wow ! I am impressed - seems like a game changer . Thanks for sharing . I have a question please, is this peel able paint and does it come off if the vehicle is washed / jet sprayed ?
Just remember that some manufacturer's front logo badges have sensors behind them for pre-crash and smart cruise control. Painting them may affect how the sensors work and could void warranty. I had problems with these sensors on my vehicle which had everyone scratching their heads until a spider nest was found behind the logo badge. Mud and ice can also affect how these sensors work.
At first I thought you were going to leave the black rectangle behind the emblems, it all looks great! I'm not crazy about the white-out license plate though.😆
After watching your video I'm definitely going to try it on my car next week have a Mazda 3 hatchback and the way you described it in the video made it seem so easily if you follow your steps thank you so much
Love your videos! so inspiring. I especially love this one. My wife really wanted her maroon jeep to have the blacked out stuff but we couldnt get it. I am totally going to try this!
Love the home made power paint shaker. I pointed out its ingenuity to my girlfriend as I was that impressed........ She has now come back at me with an alternative modification for my recip saw 😳
I would love to see how to professionally do my rims PLEASE!!!!!! Love the video Blake!! Finally some car stuff haha I’m a big car guy! Really nice truck BTW!!
haha I knew it! I had a feeling you were a car guy. I most likely won't be doing rims anytime soon but im sure there are other videos out there. It is the exact same process, you just need to use plastic to mask off your brakes.
Freakin awesome thank you. I purchased a 2019 Nissan frontier and it has black wheels but chrome emblems. I'm definitely going to try this. I didn't even realize plasicdip is made for this. I would have used tape and exacto knife..
Well I'll be dipped! LOL.. I was looking how to black out the FORD ovals on my F150 and came across this. I think that this would work on my front fender badges.. And maybe I can do something similar on the Ford Oval. Thanks man !!
You can peel of the plasti dip around the logo, because there is an air gap from the 3m tape. You didn't clean the logos well enough, so you got these spots. Just take a look at how car painter clean the surface. Also, use a decent spray cap and learn how to spray with a can. You were way to close and started the spraying in the middle of the logo. Tape of WAY more area and spray in longer, but smoother strokes. All reasons, why you got so much orange peel. I don't want to be super harsh, but the result is really bad IMHO.
That is nice how you have the exact size for the front emblem. I been trying to find the correct aize for my 2019 ninja 400 emblems. But i am terrible uaing the cricut.
I suspect that the car emblems are applied with double-sided foam tape. The thickness of the foam tape means the emblems actually sit above the surface of the car. When you spray the whole area, the plasti-dip on the emblems isn't attached to the plasti-dip on the paint, so you can just peel that off and the emblems stay painted.
First time watching this guy… we sure this ain’t Tim Tebow with his build & great hairline? Nonetheless, thank you for the great content. Really enjoy your tempo
Followed video to a T and the only thing that made it a failure was how THICK it actually needs to be. I did what I would consider 3 good coats (thinking more like paint) and the extra was so thin I couldn't get a lot of it off without rolling it hard with my finger and it tore a lot off of the lettering in the process. Be sure to do the equivalent of like 6 or 7 coats of paint! Or maybe just heavier coats in general. It is a MAJOR pain in the butt to peel off thin Plastidip!
I got a 2022 Explorer XLT Sport Appearance package in white for Christmas, I also want to do the same exact thing as well. Thanks for sharing I will certainly be using your video to customize my Explorer. Any advice on how to paint my door handles black as well??
@@lowriderbomb52 I actually sprayed my emblems, they've been through the car wash 1 time, and show no sign of wear... we'll see how it holds up in the long run.
The Subaru emblem is shaped almost the same as the Ford's "ovalish". Anyway I just T-rex ed my front (and rear) logo and put an Decepticon sticker in the center. If you didn't know the logo you would almost think it was foreign, or at least,....."Alien". See what I did there 🤣. The hard emblem goes on the back (replacing "SPORT & IMPREZA" logo's) next time Dad goes to get his hair cut LoL 🤫......🏹🤠👍
💯❤️🥰🥰🥰 thank you..... I’m thinking of changing my Ford Explorer hood emblem letters to hot pink or dark pink on my magnetic grey edition.... and this idea just might do the trick. Btw....What’s your opinion on my color selection? Pink or Black against magnetic grey??
It looks like the website only has ford stickers for the emblems. I have a 2024 honda accord and its the same problem with the ford. I'm wondering how I can do the same with my car
Tips: put can in hot water for 15-20’. That thins the Plastic Dip and prevents any orange peel look. Use 4-5 coats.
What happens when I wash and dry it? I can imagine pulling the plastic dip off.
@@mikeday9111 I run mine through car washes with no problem.

Yep, I've seen other videos where they just use a toothpick very lightly to guide the plastidip when pulling it off the emblems.
I have done this more than just a few times.
