Awesome tool! I love the innovative 3 ring LED. Like u said, excellent power and runtime. Im seriously loving all their gen 5 tools, they look top quality but im curious to see what kind of problems will occur out of the gate if any.
John Xiong Thanks! The only "problem" that I have run into is if I push into them way too hard when I start out, they can trip the overload protection (auto shuts off power for a few seconds). As long as you let the tools do the work & dont jamb them into the wood/metal/etc...they work great!
If I could, I would give that thing two thumbs-up. The Gen5X system is so impressive. All that performance and quality at a very reasonable price. Great review.

Real Tool Reviews One thing I learned about the Ridgid LSA is if you use it be sure you re-register your tool when you get it back to keep it eligible under the LSA.
Finally a good review on this tool. I have seen other reviews where they put water on it thrown in the Sand, drive a car over it I mean that’s OK that’s good to see but I would like to see how long batteries will last when your in the real scenario application. That way I would know if I want to buy or not.
Down shift the transmission when you drilling into steel/metals. You want the torque not the speed for these materials... Plus you wont burn your bits up.

Im in need of a new set my van got stolen yhe other week and got it back with no tools! All my milwaukee tools gone! Ridgid might be the best bang for the buck at the moment
This video convinced me to buy the Ridgid kit! Im a rough plumber, and today I got use every single tool on this kit. For every 1-1/2", and 2" holes, I used this drill on the full torque setting, and my god is this thing a monster! It was able to drill both plates and fire blocks with EASE, even hole saws to get through some nails. But I still had to bring out Milwaukee's Hole Hawg for 3 inch holes since I have to to drill both plates and the rim joist. FML right.. The only thing missing is an angle grinder! I had to hang pipes with all thread, so I had to bring out a corded grinder. More cords and pigtails and y splitters! Ive heard the 4th gen grinder absolutely drains the battery within minutes of use, thats horrible. Any one know when Ridgid will release a 5th gen grinder?? Or if they ever will?! Thanks. really needing one.

As far as an angle grinder, I dont know when the Gen4 will be replaced with a Gen5X version....but I do know that all the Gen4 tools are going to be phased out & replaced (eventually) with Gen5X versions. If I had to guess, I would say a 6-12 month time-frame. What size all thread do you cut typically?
I have one of these drills. I like it. But one particular day I was drilling a hole through some wood the drill shut off, maybe because it was too hot or whatever. It was in low gear. I tried to back the drill bit out and as I was doing so, the whole Chuck head Unscrewed. every time I try to drill the bit back out, The Chuck head would unscrew from the drill. I never had this problem with my old 18 V dewalt. This made me think about Ridgid tool line in professional use. Thinking about changing over to Milwaukee which from my understanding still have something to do with ridged.

True, they charge more for the new tech (its not new at all, its been around for a decade in select power tools/drills - you should know that!) But fair enough, it might have cost more and true the LTSA is a +1 for sure! No doubting that, but will they still be in biz in even 5 years and be honouring the offer??
Steve Hardy Well, keep in mind R&D costs....assuming it costs less (materials) to make brushless, they still have to re-coup the costs of developing/patents/etc....which is why they charge more. If in fact it was cheaper across the board, they would scrap the brushed models & only sell brushless. As far as the LTSA....it is only valid IF you register within 90 days....most people dont think about it until/unless they have an issue --- so they are not covered. Follow their simple rules & these should last a very long time.
In the future the runtime/performance tests should be standardized and comparison charts could be added between different drills. Milwaukee, Makita, Ridgid, Dewalt.

For example, the Makita XPH07 Drill (1,090 in-lbs) is the king of the hill....the Bosch DDB181 is an entry level homeowner drill.....not remotely in the same class, although they are both 18v. When the specs are similar, I do similar testing (i.e. --- Milwaukee 2763 VS IR W7150 impacts).
Real Tool Reviews You could perhaps do different classes of tools, ex. m12 drill, m18 compact drill, m18 full size drill, and m18 hammer drill would be different classes. Similar testing helps comparison, but for a true comparison the variables need to be eliminated. So different drill bits or 2x4s vs 4v4s all make it harder to see which is better for which applications. The comparison reviews (2763 vs W7150) are much more helpful, IMO, than watching two different videos and try and figure out what is different and compare on my own. (What I did watching several channels videos comparing dewalt, makita, and milwaukee tools) As for the powerful tools making the homeowner ones look weak, I do not see a problem in that. They are weak in comparison, but someone looking for a drill or impact to change wheels on their car or hang pictures needs to look at price vs performance. So if the high-end one drills 50 holes on a battery, and the low-end one drills 25 holes on a battery, but the consumer only needs to make 25 holes, the low-end drill would be perfect for him/her, getting the job done and saving money. I know many people that say they need an 18v drill, but do not know that the difference between homeowner and professional grade still exists between 18v drills.

That light on the drill looks futuristic lol. I've been wondering when a company would have a lighted chuck. The rigid hammer drill is very impressive especially not being brushless.

Jared Shaffer It would boil down to cost I would think. These can do pretty much everything a FUEL tool can do, except for the speed & run-times. The entire set with 5 tools, 2 batteries, and charger is $499.....one FUEL tool can be upwards of $300+/each (even bare tools are in the $150-200/each range).
I just got the Milwaukee Fuel line, and I have to say these less expensive lines from TTI are really impressive. (Rigid & Roybi & Milwaukee are all owned by TTI) with that said, every time I pick up anyone of my Fuel tools it provides everything I could possibly expect and more. Even the M12 fuel line surprises me every time I grab one of those. They are all great tools I am sure, but look at the variety of what they offer and what you need- I mean want!

Eric Nguyen I was told by Ridgid that any Home Depot with a rental dept can swap batteries on the spot & if you have an issue with your tool, they will ship it off for you. The turn-around time is roughly a week & if you bring it in, you have to bring your tool, charger, and battery so they can test all 3 there to verify the issue. I think it is a cut & dry warranty....just BE SURE to register it when you buy it (online w/your receipt) to qualify for the lifetime service agreement.
Israel Hernandez I was told March/April 2015.....I think they are probably waiting on shipments like everyone else because of the dock strikes at the California ports.....everything is delayed because of that.

You aren't the only one in the world by far but the word is masonry, not mason ary. A hammer drill works by literally hammering the drill chuck causing the drill to bust through the masonRY as well as then drilling out the dust. Do not use the hammer function when driving a Tapcon as you are busting through the threads the Tapcon is trying to cut. I just bought the brushless version because of the LSA. However, the battery that came with the drill is covered under the LSA but if you buy batteries separately they are not. Batteries bought separately from the initially purchased battery included in a kit are not covered forever, only three years. Good overall review.
Hi. I recently purchased the Gen5x package. I recently just started using the hammer drill and noticed it gets very hot very quickly. This never happened with X4 hammer drill. I know brushed motors tend to warm up which is a problem people don't have with brushless. I was wondering if this happened at any time during your usage of the Gen5x hammer drill? mesa620 With the extreme runtime testing that I do with all battery powered tools, they almost always feel pretty hot when I am done. I dont remember this being an exception, but it did not overheat or shut off on me. Also, in my experience it is the brushless motors that heat up more ---- in fact the brushless tools are the ones that overheat and shut off until the batteries/tool cools back down the most often. I would imagine that your drill is fine, and unless it started smoking I would not be concerned. Be sure to register it for the Lifetime Service Agreement within 90 days of purchase, or you will only have a standard 3yr warranty!!
Hahaha....those were some $40 junk snow boots from Tractor Supply....lasted about 2 weeks before they split along the seam & I had to duct-tape them back together.....thats quality....
from what i can tell its a drill that comes with a bit driver that you put on top of it designed for anchors so you can drill holes and fasten the anchors with only the hammer drill. So yo don't need a screwdriver for the anchors

The turn-around time is roughly a week & if you bring it in, you have to bring your tool, charger, and battery so they can test all 3 there to verify the issue. I think it is a cut & dry warranty....just BE SURE to register it when you buy it (online w/your receipt) to qualify for the lifetime service agreement.

Israel Hernandez I was told March/April 2015.....I think they are probably waiting on shipments like everyone else because of the dock strikes at the California ports.....everything is delayed because of that.

You aren't the only one in the world by far but the word is masonry, not mason ary. A hammer drill works by literally hammering the drill chuck causing the drill to bust through the masonRY as well as then drilling out the dust. Do not use the hammer function when driving a Tapcon as you are busting through the threads the Tapcon is trying to cut. I just bought the brushless version because of the LSA. However, the battery that came with the drill is covered under the LSA but if you buy batteries separately they are not. Batteries bought separately from the initially purchased battery included in a kit are not covered forever, only three years. Good overall review.
Hi. I recently purchased the Gen5x package. I recently just started using the hammer drill and noticed it gets very hot very quickly. This never happened with X4 hammer drill. I know brushed motors tend to warm up which is a problem people don't have with brushless. I was wondering if this happened at any time during your usage of the Gen5x hammer drill? mesa620 With the extreme runtime testing that I do with all battery powered tools, they almost always feel pretty hot when I am done. I dont remember this being an exception, but it did not overheat or shut off on me. Also, in my experience it is the brushless motors that heat up more ---- in fact the brushless tools are the ones that overheat and shut off until the batteries/tool cools back down the most often. I would imagine that your drill is fine, and unless it started smoking I would not be concerned. Be sure to register it for the Lifetime Service Agreement within 90 days of purchase, or you will only have a standard 3yr warranty!!

from what i can tell its a drill that comes with a bit driver that you put on top of it designed for anchors so you can drill holes and fasten the anchors with only the hammer drill. So yo don't need a screwdriver for the anchors

Torque and Power are completely different properties. Yet you kept wrongly referring to in-lbs as the Power of the drill.

Try using it on 2 or 3 studs...meaning 4.5" of wood...it stalls out every single time....thing sucks...makita n milwaukee are better...way better...
