Rigid has really stepped up to the plate these past few years. I have a Rigid wet/vac and that thing really has a strong vacuum. I have never used much rigid power tools, but i did buy this brushless set in a combo kit that had the drill and impact driver and 4 ah batteries for my uncles birthday. He uses these tools everyday loves them. He is like me and mostly used dewalt throughout the ages. He is a very blunt person.. If the tools were bad he would tell me. He absolutely loves his set of rigids. The runtimes in this video is very impressive. Thanks for taking the time to make a solid video.
Your video tutorial on this Ridgid brushless hammer drill is way more educative and superior than what I saw from Tool B. Your videos are precise and are highly professionally done. They are short videos and not boring at all. You actually include a lot of scientific talk in your tutorials. You match your talking points with practicals. So much like an engineering laboratory professor. I discovered your channel today and I have already learned a lot from you than I have learned from your competitor's junky videos. Only the Sparky Channel guy matches this level of sophistication. Because of your videos on this Ridgid brushless, I have decided to consider it a must buy this week but please answer this question for me ------ "Does tthe Ridgid Gen5X hammer drill overheat and then shut down?" Thanks a lot and God's Blessings to you.
Real tool review just bought the brushless skillsaw and driver hammer kit for 150. Sold my 4x 5 tool set and bought this ones ridgid is a really good company and I'm impressed with the tools awesome video thanks for the info
Great review. Very thorough. I have been impressed with Ridgid and we have used their tools on an industrial level and some are approaching 5 years old, with the only problems being with the ones that got dropped from stupid heights. And the rubber grips wearing out and pealing off. And that's the non brushless. I can't wait to get the brushless impact and drill set. Can't believe its that many holes in concrete blocks. Wow.
All your movies are great, I was watching your review on the gen5x regular drill too. Thought it might be interesting to run the 5x regular and brushless side by side to see the differences in the speed battery time etc. I saw the gen5x only made it through 150 holes, but it was also a different bit so it'd be nice to see the exact same bit put both of them to the test sometime. Keep up the good work!
Real Tool Reviews hey bro shouldnt u of did the same test u did in the previous video - to test if it really was better and stronger? kinda makes me think u did do this originally but u didnt wanna make them look bad ?? also I didn't like how the didn't add that 360 ring light & if u do decide to run another test we would greatly appreciate it
I bought this Ridgid Brushless Hammer Drill along the new Brushless Impact Driver with 2x 2.0 Ah batteries (I think this kit is unique to Canada as the US kit comes with 2x 4.0 Ah batteries). Being a Ridgid fan, they still managed to impress me with better runtime and power. I just love these new Brushless tools. I hope Home Depot Canada will sell the 7-1/4 in Brushless Circular Saw as a bare tool. Seems amazing !! And again, nice extensive review. I always look forward to new reviews !! Many thanks !!
+Maxime Desaulniers Boisvert Nice! Glad you liked it & congrats on the new kit! :) I would assume the battery situation has to do with costs and/or shipping issues.
+Real Tool Reviews I'm in the same boat as Max and our dollar is in the tank currently. The kit is retailing for 270 CAD at Home Depot, which is the same MSRP as the US, so I guess they had to cut something out. Still, seems like a great drill set for the money, esp. given the LSAgreement. Nice review.
I just purchased a 18v drill, 18v driver, and circular saw all brushless including 2 4ah batteries and charger set from the Depot, was on sale for $250. Great tools for a great price. Can't go wrong with the new tools Ridgid is coming out with. Ill definitely be adding more to the group as its a better quality then Ryobi.
Subbed. Excellent, thorough review! My trusty DeWalt 20V drill/driver + impact combo kit was recently stolen so I've been looking for a replacement and plan to upgrade to a hammer drill. I'm really impressed by the feature set of the Ridgid! Even the small things like bit holder and independent light switch. And of course the lifetime warranty on tool AND battery is amazing. I think I am sold on this.
Great Video, I just picked up the brushless model. Love it. Just to let you know that the add on handel only fits on the top of the drill, left or right. Thanks again for the video.
Good video review, liked. I freaking love RIDID tools. Just bought this hammer drill as a set, with drill, charger, two batteries, and carry case. Great purchase.
I been waiting for this video! This couldn't come at a better time (Black Friday!). My tools have been stolen, and I need some new stuff. I have been eyeing this kit, and your video has confirmed that this drill/impact is a great value!
+Bigchuck678 I have the video coming out on the brushless circ saw also.....that combo kit (circ saw & hammer drill for $199) is a STEAL!!! I highly suggest getting it if you see it in Home Depot tomorrow. As far as I know, each store got 6 units.
+Bigchuck678 Ridgid is killing me right now! They are only selling the drill/impact or drill/circular saw as kits. Not as bare tools right now! I want all 3, but need a bare tool for it to make sense! I really want these now!
+Real Tool Reviews I didn't realize the circular saw was brushless as well. Im interested to see your review on that saw as well. In your video on the gen5x circular saw, it performed nearly as well as the Milwaukee brushless fuel circular saw. It will be interesting to see what this new brushless model will do. Also I'm glad Ridgid is including 4ah batteries in more kits. To me the 4ah is significantly better than the 2ah, and doesn't add much weight to the tool. If you can, I'd like to see what the 5ah battery can do. With the 4ah battery I could get away with charging once a week, and that's with heavy usage. I bet the 5ah battery last a ridiculously long time.
I have brushed and brushless gen5x drills and brushed model much more powerful -does not matter which battery I use - brushed model can run my 8” ice auger no problem but brushless cuts out - tried at same location , same day , same batteries - no comparison at all
I bought one on 5/5/17 (yes, I was a bit drunk too so I didn't care about the price). I love this thing. I replaced my Ridgid 4X drill/driver that I bought around Christmas time. It was between this Drill or a Ryobi, my girl talked me into the Ridgid cause I already have a Ridgid so not having two different batteries and chargers is nice. Now I have 4 batteries, and 2 chargers. I always keep 2 in the truck and 2 at home and always have a charger. I just need to remember to use my drill over a wrench when putting nuts on.
I just purchased this kit and also the r653b saw. looking forward to receiving it, nice review, was a Makita person until they stopped making my battery, so decided to go with ridgid, watched another review where guy was complaining about battery being loose and bits wiggling, kinda made me sick. but was watching close as you used it and it seemed to be fine. his bit may of been bent.
+Real Tool Reviews Just wanted to take a minute to give you a compliment. I have seen a lot of reviews in general and am pretty critical of equipment and reviews. However, after only watching two of your reviews (this and same style circular saw), I am quite impressed. You check all the boxes -- all features, usage facts, and real tests. Add to that your professional knowledge, organization skills, and presentation style, (and lack of irritating, blaring hard rock while you're talking), and you've got a winning package! Thanks for the great reviews! Gladly subscribed.
I wish my brushed model hammer drill had 3 speeds like the dewalt because when drilling studs, the low speed is too slow and the high doesn't have enough torque. This brushless model did very well is the test. I was going to purchase a new brushless Dewalt hammer drill because I was very impressed with my coworkers but I'm heavily invested in the Ridgid 18v line and all registered for LSA. Any issues I have had with the drill have been related to the brushes.
I absolutely love mine! FAR superior to any NiCad powered tool. The ONLY shortcoming it has is the keyless chuck. It needs to be grippier. Sometimes when my hands are dirty or very dry, the chuck spins in my hand. I am very happy with this tool.
Wow! Thanks for all the work on this in depth review. This looks great and I do own a few Rigid tools and they have been very good. I haven't bought one of these brushless drills yet but maybe home depot will have one of these on a black Friday sale.
+DC Rickerson Thanks DC! I actually bought this yesterday as part of a kit (with the new brushless circ saw, 2.0ah batt, 4.0ah batt, & charger for $199!).....Home Depot had the "Pro Black Friday Event" yesterday & they supposedly have 6 combo kits per store. Here you go --> www.homedepot.com/p/GEN5X-18-Volt-Lithium-Ion-Cordless-Brushless-Compact-Hammer-Drill-Driver-and-Circular-Saw-Combo-Kit/206127576
+Real Tool Reviews Picked up that same kit tonight but found it for $150. I really just wanted the new saw but the new drill and 2 battery's is icing on the cake.
Hey great video. Think you could do a Gen5x vs the new MaxOutput video? I definitely preferred the gen5x over octane and would like to know how the new MO compares
Great review...I've been debating what drill to get and after talking to the guy at Home Depot and watching your video review, I'm going to buy this drill in some sort of kit.
Hmmm Rigid has my attention now. Any chance of a shootout video of this hammer drill and Rigid impact driver vs the new Milwaukee gen2 fuel hammer drill and impact driver??
+mesa620 Thanks! I dont focus on manufacturer specs too much......although Ridgid & Ryobi consistently seem to be on-point with their advertised ratings & run time estimates (where other brands can be WAY off). In my opinion, after using both drills....I think that the new Brushless version (even though it is compact) is more powerful. I may end up making a side-by-side comparison video at some point with the different Gen5X drills, but from using them both....this one definitely feels like the more powerful one out of the two.
+korean zombie I wouldnt say runtime is lacking with any Gen5X models.....the brushed circ saw (that you bought) had the longest runtimes prior to me testing the brushless model.....it does very well compared to other brands.
Wow that's a drill, now them house blocks I don't know about that !! I've got half a skid of house blocks left over from a project in 1966 and I don't think that drill could do 4 holes, you don't show an address for your channel., I'd like to send you one of my house blocks to try out with that drill. Great vid Daniel.
+Steve Rob ok I took another look, you called them hollow block, never heard that name but our hollow block has three chambers, ok in 1966 they did. Ha
I bought this drill last night at home depot for $79 with 2 batteries and a charger. I believe they are the smaller 2.0AH batteries.. but it quite the steal.. thinking of going to get another as the batteries alone 2.0AH are $79 a piece, or $140 for 2 of the 3.0AH bluetooth type... I'd get another drill, and 2 spare batteries.. a drill to keep in my mobil toolbox.
The brushed Gen5x boasts 780 in/lbs. of torque compared to the brushless 700 in/lbs. of torque. So how can the brushless Gen5x claim to have more power than the brushed Gen5x?
+pjp171 Good point. My Brushless box says '700 pounds, best in class', so I guess they are making the claim against other brushless motors. Overall, I guess it's not overly unfair if it has 10% less torque, but 50% more battery run time. I know which one I preferred.
just exchanged my gen 5x 5 tool kit when I got it home and realized it wasn't brushless, that's when I realized the brushless drill has a minimum cut in speed with the variable trigger that seems pretty high, is this supposed to be normal? it seems like the regular brushed gen5x had a lot more precise control
+Taylor Albaugh thanks! And unfortunately your tools are NOT going to be eligible, since you must buy them from the Home Depot & register within 90 days (using your HD receipt code) in order for the LSA to be processed.
+EVERYDAYDON Welcome to the club of noisy workers! I am getting complaints about the noise when doing work in an office in putting up shelving and such, so I went back to my heavy DeWalt for such work. The noise is no big deal in most situations, as it is not like one needs hearing protection to use it, but STEALTH it is sure NOT! Oh, and I can't get my brushless to turn more lower than 130 RPM while my DeWalt will do 35 RPM to help start a flat head screw. Slow speed is not needed that much, even so, Ridgid engineers dropped the ball on their speed control for this drill. I do like how SHORT it is and the power is good as well as the light weight, but it has some "issues."
Yes, this brushless drill is super loud. This is not usually a problem, but it is not recommended for use w/i a house with the residents present or when working in a busy office area installing something. Also, it has a problem with speed in not being able to go very slowly, about 130 RPM minimum compared to my DeWalt at 35 RPM and my Makita at 15 RPM lowest speed. So, pretty annoying to use for installing and removing screws, but OK for drilling and good power and lasts well enough on a battery. The original chuck I replaced as it was too far out of round & exchanging it for another drill didn't help much. Also, the original chuck would not keep a good grip on a drill. I replaced the chuck with Jacobs 500 series and it was inexpensive and works well. Thus, this drill has issues but it is functional, with the upgraded chuck, and relatively compact and strong so if the price is low enough it can be OK.
I also recently found a display at the HD, where the had them side by side. The Ridgid was much louder to my ears than the Makita and a little louder than the Milwaukee. Probably not a good idea to bring it to get in to a bank safe in the middle of the night :o)
+Kevin Konkel They just released a few of them (drill, impact driver, & circ saw)......this is the first one I got & have the circ saw coming up shortly.
+Real Tool Reviews When you get around to reviewing the brushless impact, please include a torque test to see if it lives up to the advertised spec of 2,250 in-lbs. I'm seeing comments elsewhere that Milwaukees and Makitas with much lower torque specs outperform the new Ridgid brushless impact.
+Real Tool Reviews Awesome! Looking forward to your reviews. I've been considering three drivers: Makita XDT09, Milwaukee 2753, and Ridgid brushless. Thanks!
+ArcturusTech Having used both m18 fuel at work, and ridgid brushless at home, I can say that they are very close. I would go with Ridgid as the brushless tools are equal to Milwaukee m18 fuel at a much lower price. I do feel Ridgid's torque numbers are grossly overstated. Whatever Milwaukee's rating are set to, are probably more accurate.
+Jacob Scutzlas This is the "compact version", but I feel it is more powerful than the current Gen5X drill that I showed......power levels are not a huge increase, but I think that the runtime sure was.
+Real Tool Reviews really ? I'm not totally sold on the brushless yet, seems the price outweighs any benefit, at least at this point in time. Besides I love the smell of ... Brushes in the morning.
Yeah i feel they are being conservative on the number too i picked these up on black friday the hammer drill and impact combo i haven't been able to use/need the drill much but that impact is scary strong
QUESTION a tapeworm . I am Spanish , and I would like to buy it, I wonder if the charguer would help me to europe we have 230v current intensity . thank you very much
so the deal is ... i have 100$... but this beauty is 120$ at homedepot... but only 1 battery... damn...) and on other side is ... bosch DDB181 for 99$... but with 2 batteries... damn) its hard 2 choose(; becouse in my country Ridgid not even sell but damn) brushless hummer drill for 120$... i think i should choose RIDGID

Sean Ross no way!!!

I love milwaukee but the ridgid circular saw just feels so much better than just about anything else.
I compared this with your gen5x drill review, This is much improved, and that drill is a pretty good model!
+Bigchuck678 Thanks Chuck! I agree.....the size & power are great!

+Edward Bartosic Thanks Edward! Glad to help!
Hmmm Rigid has my attention now. Any chance of a shootout video of this hammer drill and Rigid impact driver vs the new Milwaukee gen2 fuel hammer drill and impact driver??
RIDGID*
fuel gen 2 will piss on this toy
Not worth the extra 200 for Milwaukee
I have these as an electrician there monsters
I can attest to their warrantee, I just burnt up a 5 year old one like this and parts where not available and they sent me this one as a replacement!
Great review. Can you elaborate on more power since the brushless is listed at 700 in lbs vs. the brushed is listed at 780 in lbs. Thanks!
+mesa620 Thanks! +korean zombie I wouldnt say runtime is lacking with any Gen5X models.....the brushed circ saw (that you bought) had the longest runtimes prior to me testing the brushless model.....it does very well compared to other brands.
Loving these tool reviews down in Alabama!
This has twice as many holes as the Makita xph7 hammer drill that’s insane!
+Steve Rob Thanks Steve! What are house blocks?
Ha , I think in America it's called cinder blocks or the doohickey concrete things you drilled all them holes in LMAO
+Steve Rob ok I took another look, you called them hollow block, never heard that name but our hollow block has three chambers, ok in 1966 they did. Ha
+Steve Rob Yeah, here they have 2 primary styles --- solid block & hollow block (both "cinder blocks").
+jim bond Ha glad to see a guy with a good sense of humour, hats off to you Jim LMAO
Yes very details review. Good job
Do you like the light built into the chuck or do you prefer it down by the battery pack?
More Powerful than my Milwaukee Fuel, wouldn't have guessed that!
Are u serious? I haven't bought the gen5 Ridgid yet, I'm happy with my Milwaukee fuel performance but I was thinking on trying that Ridgid drill bro
Can this do the job of an impact driver as well? I need a tool that can do everything an Impact does, and also drill into concrete.
Overall, I guess it's not overly unfair if it has 10% less torque, but 50% more battery run time. I know which one I preferred.
The brushed one is a full size drill
This is a "compact" sized one
pjp171 look at the specs on the brushed and the brushless they are the same amount of power
When is an appropriate time to use the hammer drill setting over the normal drill setting ?

Is there any difference between this one and the one with the light ring around the chuck?
just exchanged my gen 5x 5 tool kit when I got it home and realized it wasn't brushless, that's when I realized the brushless drill has a minimum cut in speed with the variable trigger that seems pretty high, is this supposed to be normal? it seems like the regular brushed gen5x had a lot more precise control
Good video. Thanks for helping me avoid reading instructions.
Thank you so much sir for your information!!! You rock sir!!
Loss of the LED chuck is a kick in the balls
Great review man!
Any idea if I can still register ridged tools even if I bought them new on eBay?
+Taylor Albaugh thanks! And unfortunately your tools are NOT going to be eligible, since you must buy them from the Home Depot & register within 90 days (using your HD receipt code) in order for the LSA to be processed.
I just got this drill, yesterday.
Is it me or is brushless drill super loud?
It sounds like a mechanics air impact driver.
Thanks
I also recently found a display at the HD,
where the had them side by side.
The Ridgid was much louder to my ears than the Makita and a little louder than the Milwaukee.
Probably not a good idea to bring it to get in to a bank safe in the middle of the night :o)
Thanks for the review. Where is it made?
+Precivilization Thanks! China I assume.
are you gonna review ridgids brushless impact driver too
+Chris Cape Yes.....both new brushless models.
Is this the first brushless tool from Ridgid?
+Kevin Konkel They just released a few of them (drill, impact driver, & circ saw)......this is the first one I got & have the circ saw coming up shortly.
Please tell me you'll do a video with the impact driver!
+Bigchuck678 Bought one last night :)
+ArcturusTech I have the new Brushless & also new Brushless Stealth Force (oil pluse) impact drivers.....stay tuned!
I am waiting for the octane hammer drill review
hey looking to get this how is it since u bought it?
You need to hurry up and do the new Octane tools and do a few vs videos of them vs DeWalt and Milwaukee.
how does this compare to milwaukee gen 2
How does the runtime compare to its brushed counterpart?
In my experience brushless have about 10% more run time.
What center punch did you use
How bout with the 1.5ah battery in solid concrete test..
how much tourque does the brushless have?
+Andy Rodriguez They claim 700 in-lbs, but I think it is higher than that.
Yeah i feel they are being conservative on the number too i picked these up on black friday the hammer drill and impact combo i haven't been able to use/need the drill much but that impact is scary strong
As of 2016 what is your favorite Brand of cordless power tools?
I don't have one.
QUESTION a tapeworm . I am Spanish , and I would like to buy it, I wonder if the charguer would help me to europe we have 230v current intensity . thank you very much
Hey man . you promised to check out metabo 18v grinder . but you didnt
It is on the list.....I have a very limited amount of space, so things do get prioritized.
Real Tool Reviews ok ... you made me sure . tnx
