Dariusburst Chronicle Saviours was one of our biggest reviews, especially since so much significant DLC was released following its 2015 release. Part of DBCS was Dariusburst Another Chronicle EX, an enhanced 2011 arcade version of the 2010 arcade installment which itself was derived from the 2009 PSP original.
Now, ACEX is back with even more restored content as Dariusburst AC EX+ not only on Playstation 4 but also more importantly, the Nintendo Switch. Get ready!

This is an incredible step down from CS in regards to the lack of all the great ship dlcs from Sega/Capcom/etc. Those are sorely missed by me.
To be fair, those were all paid addons, and were added quite a time after the original CS release. They even had to retroactively add an entire menu selection and section for the DLC. All in, CS is well over $100, vs $40 for ACEX+.
I mentioned it a couple times in the review, but this release makes the most sense - and has much more significance - on Switch than PS4, which is why it's the one in specific being reviewed here.
But yeah, of course CS outshines ACEX+ (freedom notwithstanding because yechh) on PS4 and especially Steam, thanks to the full 13:9 support, but the expanded ship roster in AC as well as the restored events (and lower price) works well for us, and for those looking to get a physical of a now *long* out of print LRG title.
@@StudioMudprints , Agreed its a great option for Switch. I was just hoping that after all this time, we'd get a Darius Burst "Complete", instead of a stripped down version. Missed opportunity.
Fair enough. I wonder if there might have been licensing issues? Degica Games currently holds publishing rights for CS, so that could be why.

It is not. Freedom is exclusive to CS.

I’ve been seeing good and mixed reviews on the game and the biggest issues I’ve seen has to deal with the aspect ratio and Chronicle Saviors mode so I’ve been on the fence of getting it. The Ratio doesn’t really bother me although I thought it’d be nice if they had the ship’s information in the open areas and fill up some empty space. The bigger issue I’ve seen was the lack of chronicle saviors mode. It’s most likely a licensing issue because of that mode’s ties to dlc that uses properties from other game companies (I don’t know the specifics of how this works so I’m assuming).
Thinking on it now that mode was basically $20 since the ps4 version originally retailed at $60 and the switch version $40. Sure the vita version was $40 but that’s how much games sold for consoles like that and the 3DS.
People don't seem to realize you can zoom into the screen on that game.
I wonder if the original button configuration code work for weapons and shields even if the button letters are different.

I STILL say it "incorrectly" even though I know how it's pronounced. It's been ingrained in me to say it like the name "Darius".
The things in this game those are different than DBAC EX in DBCS :
1. Phantom system,as the previous gameplay record
2. Event mode
3. Murakumo can be used in AC
What about all the dlc’s, what happened to those?

I just picked this up from GameStop. It was coupled with G-Darius HD, both brand new for $40. I feel like I got my money’s worth.
To be honest, G-Darius was always one I wanted for the PS1, back in the day, but could never find. Now, I have it.
These games are a blast. I have a fondness for arcade shmups and bullet hell shooters. I’m not great at them, but ai have great fun. Is t that what it’s all about?
Anyway, thanks for the review. I’m happy I picked this little collection up. I got 2 Switch titles for $40, and they are filled with shooting fun from classic gaming’s past. How could I complain?
That's a decent buy, all things considered. I also did a feature on G-Darius as well, and I liked it quite a bit.
Thank you so much for this overview because i was so confused by this release and the differences with CS that i already own on Steam with all the DLC. I will skip this release and stick with my Steam CS version which i have barely explored and maybe dip in to G-Darius HD standalone release.

I was interested in this until i found out the euro/japan cozmic release has g-darius.While the u.s release by inin games does not !?

What is that "unlock B" in the title screen?
I believe that has to do with the special event stages included in this version that didn't make it into the CS release
Event mode being avalible is perhaps the best thing about his release, those stages seem so cool.
Also, the name discussion is a great example for teaching how katakana works, no lowercase characters or hyphens.

Hello, a difference with the cozmic revelation?
Cozmic revelation will include this full release along with G-Darius and (at least on switch from Strictly Limited) Sagaia GB. Our review is forthcoming, and physicals are still available from Strictly Limited.

I do wish this came with G-Darius HD. It just seems to make more sense as part of a compilation than it does as "CS But Worse In Several Meaningful Ways". I love Dariusburst in all forms so I'll be picking it up regardless to have it portable on a system slightly more suited to it than the Vita, but G-Darius would have taken the sting out of losing the CS mode and all the DLC that was added over the years, even if it bumped the price of the packed up to $60.
G darius is bundled with this in Cozmic Revelation.

Get CS. The extra content and DLC packs make it the clear choice on PS4 (though the PC's mutiscreen mode makss it the definitive version.)
@@StudioMudprints thnx for the advice. I think in buying the cs. The only thing what i think the games lack conpared to the old games is beautiful backgrounds. Both sc and ex+ are all misty space backgrounds. But if i look at zone kappa from g darius or all the bavkgrounds from gaiden, the old games look better ;)

The aspect ratio is difficult but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I imagine the tougher levels are gonna destroy me though lol
It's alright when playing on a monitor, but on the switch it's a bit too small for my aging eyes.

Yes, and it's mentioned in the review. It's not exactly optimal.
I don't know about this one, I think I'll save my money for the digital release of G-Darius HD. I understand that there were likely licensing issues that made them revert to this older iteration of the game, but considering I already own two versions of Chronicle Saviors, I think I'm going to skip this one - especially given the Darius series' trademark price point.
All fair. Cozmic Revelation from Strictly Limited also has this, GDarius HD and (on switch) Sagaia GB, so there are all kinds of options in addition to CS.
I'm a literal PRO at this game, so the issues you describe, I don't even see.
That'll happen when you get real good at something. I'm a literal PRO at UN Squadron, so I'm sure there's a lot of stuff I don't notice in it, too. Reviews like these, they don't apply to us. They're meant to help new players make informed decisions for themselves.

The Euro/Japan release of Cozmic Revelation does, but it looks like NorAm is getting them separate and G doesn't seem to be going physical on its own.

So I guess I'll make my comment on the pronunciation thing so I'm not left out (and to get that sweet sweet engagement). When I first started watching Bullet Heaven, Da-Rai-Us struck me as weird, but now the game almost loses something when I hear Da-Ree-Us. As someone who speaks just enough Japanese to be annoying, I always appreciate your comments on pronunciation (ala Ketsui). Thanks for another great review Ed! Keep being awesome!

Yeah, this is a pretty cool release, but think ill stick with my PS4 version, seeing all the sweet dlc ships & stages I have with it. In fact, I just talked myself into busting it out, & tasting the pain all over again! Stupid horsefish thingy! ARRRRGGGGGG!!!!!!!
Got to say I'm kind of glad I held out and wound up getting this for my switch as well.. I've been playing all weekend with my 8-bitdo Stick and having a blast..
oh and speaking of music tracks, "Phantom Records chapter ONE" Theme from Darius the Omnibus III -Kaigou- Album (Pretty much the New EX+ Events song and from the trailer)

I'm just never going to agree with you on Freedom.
Totally fine. Music is highly subjective, and what works for some just won't work for others. I'm glad you've found something to like in the piece, but the vocals really kill it for me. Its like adding rancid milk to a cake recipe.
Here's a little not-so-secret though: I genuine don't think that the piece is badly composed. Vocals notwithstanding, it's actually otherwise a great piece... if they'd gotten a better vocalist, I'd have been all over it.

Why are these reviews always on Switch if its usually the inferior version?
They usually are inferior, but in this case Dariusburst ACEX+ is a more significant release on Switch because of CS on PS4. In the case of Cotton Reboot, i did buy the PS4 version, but the Switch version is just as good on Switch as PS4 for once.

Bought it yesterday. I'm a bit disappointed. Runs aren't long enough, and there is no online play. So, on a whole, I wouldn't recommend it for PS4.

so...ideally, of course, not necessarily...one should get CS to play that content but then ignore ACEX in it and buy EX+?
The problem is clearly the value for the extra content, most people wouldn't spend that much just for the new Event mode.
Revelation would be more value.
P.S. If I had gotten people telling me to "pronounce something correctly" I would have called it Dodoria Burst for the rest of the showcase
That's the only real way to get all of the content. Of course at the same time, it's basically then an expensiv e expansion oif sorts, but not out of the realm of feasibility. Consider that the DLC packs were more expensive than ACEX+. Granted, there are all kinds of ships, but less overall content than ACEX+ offers.
Put another way, if you have CS on PS4, Vita or Steam (or all three, like certain people do, I know a guy) and you happen to have a Switch, it's definitely a game you'd want there too, and you'd get all of the extra content CS didn't have.
But yes, with that in mind, I'd say go with Revelation.
