In episode 31 of Bullet Heaven, we took a look at Darius Twin, a ho-hum console-exclusive side-scroller in the long-running Taito shooting series. With another three games under Taito's belt how does the latest entry in the series, DARIUSBURST CS, hold up? And, by the way... how does one get through over 3000 stages?!

It's a shame a lot of people don't care for the soundtrack, I've loved every track.

why is Darius music so weird & harsh sounding?
why doesn't black metal sound happy?
why isn't garage punk cleanly recorded?
      why are horror movies scary?

+Retrograde77 I like most of Zuntata's crazy music. It's pretty fitting for Darius and I've got no problem with any of it that I've heard. "Freedom" does get a bit old after a while, since it's been in all of the promo material, but it does have a bit of a unique acid jazz sound that is not common for shooters.

I'm gonna chip in and say that I've put in nearly double the hours of all my other SHMUPs on Steam and I've STILL barely scratched the surface of CS mode. It's even quickly approaching the time of my recent Score obsession of Crimzon Clover and I'm still in 'finish the game' mode.

Glad that you finally had a chance to review this and you have a favorable opinion of it. I've had the Japanese Vita release preordered for a few weeks, and can't wait until it arrives so that I can play it on PS TV and on the go. I may pick up the domestic release as well, probably for PS4, but really wish that Degica could have released a physical version locally. I hate to take sales from Degica, but the Japanese physical Vita version is $49.99 from most stores, but the Vita release also doesn't have multiplayer like the PS4 and Steam versions have.
The game seems to be getting some high marks and I'm very glad. I'm a Darius fan and I have most of the older games. Wanted to get the previous release of this on PSP but the prices have been pretty high for a few years now.

"and you have a favorable opinion of it" they got paid by degica to shill the game, of course they have a favorable opinion
for the record I like this game even more than this review claims the channel does but treating paid positive reviews as anything but advertisement is silly. it's even a poor ad to boot.

    • @StudioMudprints

Dead Stock Paradise it means we requested a review copy and we got one. we pay for the vast majority of our games otherwise. We've even railed other games we've received the same way in the past. And don't you think if we were such "shills" we would sing the greatest praises of the music too? We didn't like the CS tracks all that much, and we stand by that. Otherwise it's fantastic.

Question- Typically I only buy physical copies of games. I cant decide if I want to throw down for the physical PS4 version or just bite the bullet as they say on the digital Steam version.
The Price of digital vs physical doesn’t matter to me its more about performance, active community and features.
Do you have experience with both versions and would you recommend one over the other?

    • @StudioMudprints
      @StudioMudprints  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

In all honesty - and as someone with not one, but three digital versions and three physical ones (yes, really) I'd just go digital. The best parts of the game are actually the awesome DLC and they're all digital anyway. Steam gets the edge for frequent sales and the incredible 32:9 double monitor support.

Every DariusBurst song is in this game. Both in CS and AC modes.
Just don't take the ADH or ORV route and you're fine.
Besides, Freedom only plays in two zones: at the beginning of the game and at the very last, hidden final stage.

Have you heard of Hurricane of the Varstray? It's a new Shmup recently released on Steam by the Japanese Doujin devs who did Trouble Witches, Airrade and Soldier Force. It's really fast paced, hectic and fun, you can tell alot of love went into making it. The music is nice, the scoring is enjoyable, the story is a bit verbose but still interesting. Unfortunately it wasn't featured on Steams New Releases and is selling very poorly since nobody knows it exists. If you guys did a review I think that would help them out alot. It deserves way more attention than what it got.

Of COURSE they're going to defend the pricing--the episode was sponsored by the publisher of the game.
With that much content, I can understand their argument. Problem is--when similar games are half of the price, if not even more discounted, it's a tough sell.
I'll pick it up when it goes half price myself on Steam.
