    To enable Super Grafx compatibility mode in Darius Alpha, select the game and then bring up the Pause Menu. Choose 'Options' and then select the 'Game Config' tab. There you will see the Super Grafx On/Off option.

    A fun note: The Saturn port of Darius Gaiden actually has some subtle differences. For one, you start off with 3 credits by default, but can enter a cheat code to get 9 in total. The game also runs just slightly slower overall, and has a small bit of slow down on some of the really intense parts. Interestingly, some bosses even have slightly different patterns; Titanic Lace for instance shoots bullets out of his tentacles diagonally on arcade, but shoots them horizontally on Saturn. All of these changes make the Saturn version noticeably easier, but actually finding each of these individual differences takes both a keen eye, and a lot of playthroughs

      It's a great collection, though it really could have been just one release.

  • @darrentg6

    The Switch version has minimal lag, probably the same rating as the lowest you can expect on console games, 3 - 4ms. Performance is top-notch on Switch as well. This collection was originally billed as a Switch exclusive, so that's what they focused on entirely at first, then ported it to PS4 later.

  • @NightSprinter
    @NightSprinter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Fun fact: the Saturn port of Gaiden actually was converted by Interplay for Windows 95 in 1998. I was damned lucky to find a loose CD of it at a local thrift store.

    A great round up of the packs - I certainly agree it should have been under one title (and not separate Arcade/Console packs), , but I guess circumstances are circumstances. Certainly looking forward to Cozmic Revelation to give those a proper play as well!
    The gadgets being missing on the console titles is a shame, particularly as I've found them so handy in other M2STG releases to help learn the games better.
    FWIW, I went with the Switch release, and at least for the Console Collection, the only lag I could feel was when playing both the SNES titles.

    Easily the best collection released in years. I'm a big Darius fan though. Glad to see you giving them some coverage. I retweeted your meme, I still call it DAH-REE-US (can't wrap my head around saying it correctly). Looking forward to the Raging Blasters review, had a lot of fun with the recent Caravan competition.

    I personally was impressed by the Master System version of Sagaia. It lost a fair number of stages when compared to the Genesis version, and God knows there was plenty of slowdown. But, there are times when it doesn't look far off from the Genesis version, and it plays rather well. It even did a decent take on the wavering effect with some of the backgrounds, and was decent when it came to the music as well (by Master System standards).

    I’d love to get both of these but the pricing really hurts. I know why it is priced like that (these kind of titles are often undervalued) but it’s a hard sell when such a product is competing with mini’s at that price point.
    That I have a friend saying he’d rather stick to Taito Legends 2 is telling to me as to where most people stand with the value on these things.
    Great review as always.

    @Theshark15z 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well their is an extra version of Darius Gaiden. The only thing that was changed in that one was the arrangement of the stages by putting the harder ones first, bosses, Auto fire rate was increased and you had an option of making all the levels that branched apart into one continuous play with no pause in between.

    Great review. The earlier games in the series have always been brutally hard. I still have yet to get a 1cc on most of them.
    I was fortunate enough to get the physical LE release. I agree the game should've been bundled that way to begin with. Actually Cozmic Revelation should be DLC release versus a separate game.

    Nice review. I've been emulating these but having on switch with leaderboards and enhancements is tempting.
    Technically darius alpha does have a gadget showing the bosses.
    Do all the games have score attacks or just darius alpha?

    • @StudioMudprints
      @StudioMudprints  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Darius Alpha is mentioned as the exception, at leat I think it's somewhere in the script.
      As for score attack, as an actual selectable mode, no no other game but Alpha has one. It's just regular leaderboards in the rest.

    I hope to never see this release strategy again. Good games but what were they thinking?

    • @StudioMudprints
      @StudioMudprints  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, it was less than optimal. The reason for this though, is likely because the console games were download only thanks to the Cozmic LE in Japan; a separate release was likely needed to make them physical. It would probably expla9n the lack of gadgets. I honestly doubt this will happen another time, but then again I'm frequently wrong.
