I've always loved the G-Darius alert sound. It sounds like a bottlenose dolphin freaking out, to me.
Truth told, I don't mind it. But not everyone will want to hear it as often as it plays.

That's what I figured ot was too. Still pretty shrill, but I'm okay with it. Some may not though...
Aw man! 3/5 for the audio?!?! the Soundtrack is SO GOOD. It may not be Gaiden, but it's the second best in the series for sure. If you're a Zuntata freak bump it to a 5. This game is absolutely a must have! Great review!
Oh I 100% agree. I love it. But objectively, it's not going to be for everyone. Some of the effects are a little grating too, the music isn't all that factors into sound, after all.
It's an acquired taste. Rather experimental and not always fitting the action. Prefer the atmospheric RType Delta soundtrack.
Other TH-cam reviewers gloss over or even forget about the Alpha Beam, but it's a key play mechanic, not to be ignored. Boss fights can get painfully lengthy without them.
Agree, without Alpha Beam they take forever.
Great video as always man! I haven't played Dariusburst but of all the others I think this one and Gaiden are my favorites. I'm always amazed at the amount of content Darius games have.
Looking forward to this, I got the physical darius burst and fell in love with that game very quickly!
I been learning this one and the novice route seems to be topside every time. Also using the capture as a bomb gives invulnerability so you can grab the troll power ups half a second before the boss intro. Good review ty!

This game is such a classic and now that there's a physical release coming soon I'm super happy.
I played G Darius so much on the PlayStation and eventually beating it several times. I can’t wait to play this again on the Switch.

I'm not a bullet hell fan outside of this game, which I have a lot of nostalgia for. I was curious about the HD version and found this video, and just wanted to say that it was excellently presented and produced. Love the 2000s aesthetic you guys are rocking in your visuals
Same this game was my childhood. Rhe music was so amazing. A lot of games were made by their soundtrack. Lot of games play similar but how you made them feel story music etc really makes them stand out.
Absolutely love this game, for me personally it really shows the polygon shifting performance of the PS1. And that soundtrack is incredible 😍

Great review! This was my first entry into the series back in early 1998. Like most 3D shmups of the time, it's odd how the game starts off as manageable and gets really difficult in a short sequence. I snagged a JPN PS2 version earlier this year but, I'll keep my eyes open for a physical PS4 copy.
Nintendo learnt that nostalgia sells... And sells well.

Great review. Seriously considering getting this even though I already have it on the Taito collection disc. Which has G Darius and Darius Gaiden and an incredible collection of shmups. Having it in HD is tempting. It also makes me long for an HD remake of Gradius V and Thunder force 6.
Gladius g and TF6 are way better games
@@redcrimson1028 I'm assuming you mean either G Darius? Or Gradius Gaiden? Gradius Gaiden is great but I prefer V over it. As for Thunder force 6, it's good too but I don't believe it's better than any of the games mentioned above. Especially radiant silvergun. We all have our preferences though. My focus was on games made by Treasure specifically.
My opinion is that Einhander is better than both of the games you mentioned. See, my opinion.

Love this game! One of my favorite shooters ever. The alpha beam mechanic is just too good, especially with the insane controller rumble that accompanied it (on PS1). The deep sea end bosses are like something out of the movie, The Abyss. This game has some serious atmosphere & provides a distinctly, emotional experience; Gotta appreciate Japanese game-design. That Zuntata soundtrack is quite, otherworldly. Very happy to hear that Taito plans to patch in the version B arcade update. Excellent review.
I love the sound design too, but it's definitely not fir everyone. Looking forward to the added Version B
Remember picking this up for the PlayStation in 2000, with no knowledge of the series long gestation period. One of my favourites on the system, second to R-type Delta.
Rather disappointed at the slowdown still being present and the rather basic package, given the price.(PS4 version)
And 10 hours ago, G-Darius HD and Darius Cozmic Revelation hitted Steam. Quite the timing if you ask me

I played a demo version, please note I only own the switch version, not the PS1 version (I have not found the game yet in Australia though.) But I when I played G-Darius's demo, I quickly learnt this method in the very, first stage: start shooting the ship's extremely fast as you possibly can. Thanks to my experience with this demo, I found this method also includes very very fast shooting also helps against boss battles as well. Buy this game: it WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN. I say this not because I played PS games, I do not misunderstanding getting in the way of a beautiful title that holds up so damn well 20+ years later. I been gaming since I was 8 years old, but I never expected this one demo would reel me off all the racing games every Sony, Sega and Nintendo console could throw at me. And Taito, this one comment alone comes from not just me, but everyone who is around the globe who may hate or love this games series, I say this with the very ultimate amounts of respect that I seen from your Darius series of games, here is what I like to say: THANK YOU.🙂👏👏 You guys pulled off an awesome series that I want to learn about as much as possible and I hope that helps you guys and girls back in good old Japan🙂, I will be planning to go get the last few Darius games you still have on the e-shop. You definitely deserve your place, Taito, all the greatest games complimations you have been awesome. And I think a very brand new complete history of Darius of some kind would work wonderfully on modern consoles as well as the switch. Does the PS4/PS5 version have any advantages over the Switch port? Maybe 4K/60fps? When it comes to anything with polygons, I usually go with the PS4 port, just to make sure it runs at it's best. I see Monster Boy in the Cursed Kingdom, is getting a free 120hz/4K patch for the PS5. I'd love to see some shooters get this treatment.
4K maybe, but allegedly, the slowdown comes from emulating the arcade PCB exactly, meaning where the PCB slows down, it slows down. I'm not sure I like that; I'd rather rock-solid performance, though the PSX version slows in different ways and I do prefer it...

I wish more of these older games were ported over, I'm always weary of there being a lot of added input lag (like with the 11 frames, in the Cotton / Guardian Saturn collection. Also, bonus points for calling the PlayStation, the "PSX". I do that all the time, and sometimes get crap for it.. but if you were there at the launch, you know it's the right thing to call it. 😁

Loved this game!!! Just with 2 buttons you can do so much from capture to bombing the catch and absorbing the catch for the death beam. Also when you catch the middle boss you can use their unique ability with street fighter commands like the first one's special is fire ball command to execute. There was another you execute with sonic boom command.
This is just awesome! Me and my friend has beaten every boss accept for one and it's the 4th one!!! That boss has an Alpha beam to blast back at you!!! Wish we got another chance in the arcade.
Some of the later ones need you to input back-half-circle-back or forward-half-circle-forward. Those ones are pretty powerful.
Best of all, they recently announced that the Cozmic Arcade Collection and G-Darius HD are coming to PC in the near future!

How difficult are these Darius games? I've had my eye on Dariusburst and this one looks good as well. Is one easier than the other? I'm not bad at RType Final but rubbish at Raiden V. Where does Darius fall between those games?

Run Einhander at 4k in ePSXe makes the game look amazing. Plus you get savestates and instant loading.

Crimzon Clover has two reviews noe already but we're going to revisit the physical. All of the touhou games is a little unreasonable, but we have 10 of them, and I'd like to say it's a decently curated selection.

Think this was a bit generous on the graphics, feel like they could do a lot more to make rereleases for the money they charge.
I was just in gamestop and saw this for the switch. The price tag was a little much to me for a remaster of a ps1 shmup. I played a lot of this back in the day and twin on the snes. I always liked how all the enemies are like aquatic robots lol.
To be fair, it's actually a remaster of the (heavily PSX hardware-based) arcade version, but I get what you're saying. If you didn't already have it on PSX, I'd still recommend it. 👌
@@StudioMudprints well actually there was a update 7 months ago that added a few more gadgets and added Arcade Version 2 (and HD) and the Console Version titled “for Consumers” which apparently is based off of Version 2

To be fair, Rolling Gunner and Overpower both started on PC, though they were limited to doujin DVD ROM and DL card releases. But yeah, it would be nice if they did to broaden their accessibility.
They just announced Cozmic Arcade and this game coming to Steam this winter on Twitter.

Not really, believe it or not. I wasn't very impressed with Darius Twin or Super Nova back in the day, and I found the fish to be super weird, though I'll admit it stood out then just as much as it does now. Pretty Iconic. Gaiden and G are my two favorites, though I'm abysmal at both.

As someone who recently jumped into shmups and loving the journey, I always thought was pronounced "dar REE us". No wonder I got the confused looks 😅
It's a case of "once you see it, you can't unsee it" and with so many of the Japanese releases (7 JPN vs 3 US) its what ended up stucking with me since thats what I see more often. It's second nature now, and I take a lot of crap for it. There's a Darius Plus commercial on youtube where you can hear the announcer. Just found it about 2 days ago.

You may not be wrong, everyone I know including myself pronounced it as you do. Don't forget, Americans pronounce (for example) Sega as "say ga", but Europeans, Brits and Australians pronounce it as "see ga"

I"m getting this physical on either Switch or PS4. Any notable differences between the 2? I know, normally the Switch has 1 frame or so of lag on most shooters.
Nothing worth noting, but since typically ps4 is at least as solid, often sharper and typically less laggy, I'd go for that one.

Allegedly, it's close to the arcade version according to purists, but yea... I've been going PS4 ocee switch more and more whenever I can.
The graphics are so bad in this game you can barely see the enemies and bullets coming you when the action gets too fast. I wish the graphics were clearer and cleaner. I enjoyed the snes version the best. Dariusburst was also great.

You really think Darius Burst looks better?
G-Darius to me is one of the best looking games in the series. The backgrounds and bosses are imaginative and extreme intimidating. The entire design of the game is topnotch and made great use of it's 3D presentation.
To me Burst was a downgrade, everything looks so bland in comparison.
I like it better, yes. If you personally like G-Darius better though, that's not my choice to make.
