Glad I came across this video. I can only play on a PC so my only option is getting CS but I'm glad to know I'm not missing out much from new rereleases.
While I enjoy DariusBurst I really didn’t expect to be hearing about it for over 12 years. The PS4 version was pretty cool but damn that savior mode is hard as fuck!
Yeah, they really keep milking this game instead of making a new one... But as long as it plays well, I'm happy!
there is even a nintendo switch version of ac ex plus, and cs plus all sorts of packs sega and taito for the switch version.

@@GojiGuy quite informative. I hope they make a true sequel some day. Burst is really high for me getting to play all ships. I’d love a sequel with all the originals, new bosses and new ships again. I’ve always loved the laser battle beams with bosses in here and G. So that would be great to see again too.

Great summary of the complex line of DB games. It’s weird, I consider myself a big Darius fan, yet this is how I’m just now finding about Dariusburst CS Core. I mainly play the Steam CS port. Got it and all the DLC on a seriously good sale bundle a while back. AC mode on Switch is fun, but man, playing 32:9 in 720p handheld mode is tough.

I just got ACEX+ for my birthday after trying the cabinet with friends a while back. I didn’t do any research beyond a random review video so I came running to the internet when I started seeing cabinet select and high percentage completions in chronicle mode. I’m lucky you put this out so recently but man do wish I saw it before tearing off the shrinkwrap😂

Like my path was playing the iOS version ages ago > a little of the PSP > lots on the Vita > a long gap then the Switch so I was confused by the recent releases. This video really helps clear up the confusion!
The amount of versions can get so confusing that I had to rewatch some sections of your video. I most likely will go for CS since I mostly play on Steam. Although I am not keen on learning Dariusburst any soon, as I'm still enjoying Gaiden and looking forward to playing G-Darius HD as well. But nonetheless this is a great video and is a huge service to the community!

I think that the Ultimate combo is having CSCore on Switch and EX+ on PS4 (for better graphics), this way you have all the content minus Capcom and Cave DLCs.
If you also have a PC, you can get the original CS on it to own all the DLCs and play it on 4k Ultrawide screens

So, I really do like Darius Burst CS, it’s a fun game that has TONS of content. Although my only problem with the Burst series is the lack of stages. I mean they do exist, but they’re more like shooting galleries than actual levels. But I suppose Darius 1 had the same problem. It’s not a bad choice per say, just different. Not to mention while if not on sale, it could be pricey.
But, those DLC guest stars are awesome. Absolutely love them and was glad to see Miyamoto again. I played CS and DLC Mode more so than AC mode to be honest.
While I’m glad Switch owners can get AC and CS, I can’t say that either of these new releases are the ideal re-release that they could be.
Sure we got the Murakumo in AC along with the Events, and there are new areas in CS, those are pretty cool. However, that to me isn’t exactly price worthy to me as someone who has CS on PC, unless it’s on sale or used.
Can you imagine if we could play AC mode with 4 players, and ALL of the DLC are playable? Or even have the DLC Ships unlockable in CS Mode by fighting a new boss or variant. Personally, that to me would have been ideal.
If you have a Switch and want to complete your Darius collection, more power to you. I wouldn’t mind owning them either, it’s just that this is a constant problem with Darius as a series. Not realizing how we could have better versions of these games. In any case, I still love this series, and if you got the time I’d highly recommend Darius Burst, just be sure to know which version has what.
I love Darius so much I have Gaiden via Taito Legends PS2, my original G Darius for PS1. Vita, PS; and now Switch CS Core. Yes I technically bought it three times.

Another Chronicle - "AC" - Arcade
Chronicle Saviours - "CS" - Consumer
Second Prologue - "SP" - (don't have a good one for this, some people see it as the GBA SP, others see it as "Second Portable", others see it as "SPecial")
Everythign else is just icing on the cake. AC EX+ (Arcade Extra Plus) which only contains Arcade Stuff, CS Core (Consumer Version Core/Consoles) which contains everything meant for the console/PC releases.
Yup. They are cheeky nods to commonly used Japanese abbreviations (SP is for "special")
Generally speaking, DB (+SP), AC (+ Ex, Ex+) and CS (+Core) are actually unique games, not revisions of one another.
The only Darius i've played was Darius Gaiden in Sega Saturn. And i'm fine with it 😂 still play it to this day, game is just so much fun.

@@progeniesofthetoiletpaperh6433 I'd definitely recommend G-Darius. It's the direct sequel. 3D graphics but 2D gameplay.
And if you havent played it I also recommend Metal Black.
I recomend Layer Section also from Taito and also on Saturn.
But talking about Darius, I recomend G-Darius and CS, older games may feel...well...old since Gaiden add so much over the older games

If you don't have G-Darius HD and already have CS on steam I'd definitely recommend G-Darius instead. It's fantastic and I've got a couple guides for it on my channel
I stick with what's on Steam. So, I picked up DariusBurst CS and some DLC of the shooters I like (such as DoDanPachi).
I've played the DLC a little bit. I do find it neat to play some of DariusBurst with mechanics found it other shmups. However, it feels just tacked on. Like its own like sub-game not interacting with anything. Which is disappointing given how much time I spend playing CS mode. When the DLC is cheap, I suppose it isn't too bad. But not much of a draw for me.
CS mode was what interested me the most. The story, branching paths and much of it feel bare bones, but I'm a sucker for playing a few missions to earn credits toward unlocking all the available ships. Or really buffing up one of those ships to give me a better chance to clear an area I'm stuck on.
Because of that, increasing my high-score is something I work on in this game. Since it determines how many credits earned. And unlocking even the cheap ships takes a lot of credits. Not mention all the credits to fully buff a ship for a single mission.
And that's before getting into all the missions making up CS mode. Sure, many of the missions are a patchwork of various level elements and/or bosses. But it's nice to either practice or revel in your expertise of these parts. And each mission adds just of enough to keep it interesting. About the only nitpick I have is that some missions are just too long with tons of parts making them longer than other shooter games entirely. Fortunately, these are skippable (at least as far as I have progressed).
Because of that, DariusBursth Chronicle Saviors is one of my most played shmups.

I have both versions on Switch, I would add that ACEX+ is unplayable in portable mode, due to the small size of the game screen. Instead CS Core works well in both modes on Switch, in my opinion it is the ideal choice as a first purchase.
Yeah, I mean I've played Darius I and burst okay on portable but it's faaar from ideal. CS Core is much better for portable play for sure. Have you played any of the new missions in CS Core?
Yes, I've played some new missions. The most interesting is a tutorial level that explains how to use the Burst, available however only after completing the first mission. It's useful but it's incomplete, it only explains how to to perform a Burst Counter, but it doesn't explain the other mechanics related to Detached Burst. Also I think it is optimized for the Japanese language only, by selecting a different language some texts come out of the screen and are cut off. In short, a nice idea but that had to be polished by the developers.
I've tried a few more new missions, but they don't add much to the game in my opinion, I think they're based on old levels that already exist.

Thanks! Yeah I'm aware of proper pronunciation. I actually choose to mispronounce it when speaking English (for a host of reasons). It's probably worth a whole video or disclaimer about the mispronunciation of that name lol.
Great video, very helpfull ! I would have loved to see it back when I was lost trying to make sense for all the different releases haha. I very much agree that ACEX+'s additions are really cool although not fundamental if you've purchased Dariusburst Chronicle Saviours already. Are you thinking about doing one as well for the other Darius games eventually ? It'd be awesome to see :)
As a fellow Darius nerd I'll have to throw my two cents on a few things you've mentionned :
- First Darius game was actually released in the beginning 198, but finished in 1986 (this is why you see this date in the title menu, but it's not the release date per se).
- The first Darius game with different ships was actually the controversial Darius Force on Super Famicom.
- ACEX+'s arcade mode adds an extra life by by default without being able to change it to default. Overall I think this is a good thing for beginners, or if you want more room for mistakes in co-op. Though that extra life doesn't change anything for top scores it forces more "casual" survival rankings (such as on forums, etc.) to distinguish both versions, which is a bit of a shame. It would have been so easy to just allow the live settings to be changed, definetely a weird move from Taito
- As a final note I'll add that we probably aren't done with the Dariusburst releases, as Taito's imagination for squeezing the money out of our wallets with that game goes beyond limits :))

If you were looking to liberate planets with a community, PS4 and PC are pretty much done now. I have no idea about Switch versions.

@@GojiGuy perhaps not EVERY arcade cabinet, but the community has gone far less active. It has been 9 years after all.
But I just ordered the Switch version to see if I can relive that "we're all actively liberating" feeling again. It's a cool memory.
To be honest. G-Darius is the best that was considered from overall in-game elements. The first problem is "beam" element. In the G-Darius it feels strong, hard weight and powerful. But a newer version beyond G-Darius is just a flashlight or just a light that feels weak, light weight and powerless. Also, the interaction between "beam" and objects. G-Darius made it great. But newer version beyond G-Darius was not.

PSN has pretty deep discount sales on Darius CS Burst and the DLC often. I think I got the whole set for under $50. It also doesn’t get kneecapped in performance and visuals like it will on Switch
I have a full comparison on this channel. Switch performance is identical to other versions, and even on PS4 ACEX+ is superior IMO.
ACEX+ and CS Core both regularly go on sale now too.
CS is really only needed if you don't have a switch, and even then I'd say go for EX+ and skip chronicle saviours mode. Event mode is superior IMO. But hey, at the end of the day CS still has far more content than you can ever reasonably finish anyways!
It's a shame that we would not even be able to pay an upgrade fee for content exclusive to CS Core and AC EX+ for Steam or PS4.
I do not understand WHY they can't get the latter versions' content put into the Steam DBCS version. Having it all in one place would make me very happy.

The song is a remix of Visionnerz from the dvd accompanying the Darius Premium box. If you search for Visionnerz on TH-cam it should show up!

Actually as of recording every Darius game is on sale on steam, PS4 and eShop. Even CS Core!
So to sum up, aside from the dlc ships the two Switch games give you all the content from the vita/Pc game plus extras and translated.
I love Cs on my Vita... but my system is showing its age.. so ill probably try to track down the switch games.
Aside from the alt ships and their specific Dlc are all the dlc stages on the switch game? If I remember correctly the vita and PC dlc gave you ships, ship specific stages, and then a bundle ofother missions themed after past Darius games.

The ONLY missing content is the Raizing and Cave DLC. The Sega and Taito DLC is all intact, including all extra stages (RayForce, Space Harrier, Fantasy Zone, etc)

I'm a proud owner of dariusburst Chronicle saviours on PS5, I've owned it for several years. It's one of my favorite shmups of the last decade. The only thing that might keep me interested in getting the new version, is I keep hearing that the graphical Fidelity is improved? How much better is it versus Chronicle saviours?
I haven't done an in-depth comparison, but the most noticeable thing out the gate is higher resolution. It's noticeable if you played it a lot, but not a HUGE difference. The addition of Event mode and murakumo is more noticeable!
@Control All Monsters bottom line for me, Chronicle saviours is the definitive edition on PlayStation. Since it has CS and AC mode. Plus I got it for 30% off, which is a Dandy of a price.

Does any body think that Dariusburst: ACEX+ screen fits on any flatscreen tv? I just wanna know. Or am I better off getting CS?

Certain players are (probably) better off sticking with g darius (but that’s just me).
It fits fine on any TV, it will just have black bars at the top and bottom of the screen is all. Basically just like watching this TH-cam video. It's perfectly playable IMO.
@@GojiGuy with any decorations on the top and bottom (like g darius had) it feels a little generic. And it feels a little odd playing on widescreen. (Again, that’s just me.) is ACEX+ or CS a better game? If neither, then g darius is the way to go! (Just sayin.)

Why are there so many versions instead of having all this crap on one definitive version? And none of these versions seem to match the 5-stage campaign of the original.
And I’m kind of a newbie to shooters (or at least not that skilled), but I think I’ll get both for Switch; I’ve been sorting out what I want to do with a bunch of gift cards for Christmas, and have other games for Steam, but still had some left for Switch. Don’t want to let the discounts pass me by.

Unfortunately no. If you want absolutely every last piece of content ever made you would need to buy Dariusburst (PSP), Dariusburst SP (phone), DBCS, DBACEX+, and DBCS Core. They all have exclusive content.

Isn't it pronounced da like "dart" and ri like "rising" instead of saying it like Gradius? Since in japanese it's written ダライアス (daraiasu), unlike Gradius which is グラディウス (guradiusu)
There’s no standard English pronunciation. If we were to strictly go by the Japanese pronunciation, we would all be saying DAH-RAH-EE-AH-SOO, and that would just be funny.
@@PandaMoniumReviews idk, this one sounds wack, while the japanese one is funnier but for other reasons, like it sounding like a swear word in portuguese. Also considering if it's referencing Darius as in "King Darius" it'd be closer to dah-RY-uhs than DEH-ryos

I could go on a 30-minute tangent about the pronunciation of Darius. I considered doing the "proper" pronunciation but it gets people even more angry than the "incorrect" English pronunciation.
Long story short: if I'm speaking English I call it Dare-ee-us. If I'm speaking Japanese I call it duh-rye-us.
The fact that i can hear the noise of your mouth before every sentence is very annoying, but the video content is good tho
