Oh my goodness! You turned that ugly duckling back into the beautiful swan it is. The teak is absolutely gorgeous! Thank you for the video. You did a great job. Em
Thank you 🙏🏻
Another amazing job!
I wonder 😮who had the heart to paint over such beautiful grain. Great restoration 👏👏👏
Agree, crazy right?!
What a beautiful piece of furniture. Found your channel from your collaboration with Jay at flipping drawers. Now Im binge watching your videos. Love your channel and thank you for all your work in filming and editing these videos for us to enjoy.
Thank you for the kind words! I will upload a new video this week that I think you will enjoy 😀
Same here 😂
Beautiful!
Just a little hint/ The next time you run into paint in the grain wet it first to lift the grain it's easier to sand out that way. See how much better it sanded after you wet it.
Great! Ill try that. Big thanks!
Beautiful work!
I liked the shot of your scraping the paint off of the edges of the top because it was an interesting angle and point of view.
Beautiful 🇺🇸
Look what some hard work will do! That came out beautiful and nice 100% profit!
Gorgeous table!
Thank you 🙏🏻
you easily brought out the warmth of the wood. thank you for rescuing this piece of furniture.
And thank you for your comment 🙏🏻🙂 Thanks for watching!
A really good profit. Except for the sanding, that table was easier than others. I thought for sure that white paint was hiding something. A great looking cocktail table. Carol from California
Thanks Carol! It was a great deal of work but worth it for sure 🙂 Thanks for watching - and stay tuned for next video! Up next week. Take care
Love it !!!
Thank you!!
You really scored getting this table. Nice job it looks great.
🙏🏻🙏🏻
Gorgeous!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Very beautiful. I would put in my living room and be proud.
Absolutely breathtaking!
🙏🏻🙂
*Nice job...and $250 profit❣️*
Thank you 😊
@@midcenturyflipper *My pleasure❣️💛*
I’ve also seen a dental pick used to get paint out of the grain. I do like the wet it and sand or wire brush idea.
Good idea! It was tricky for sure! Thanks for watching the video 🙏🏻
Looks fantastic! May I suggest that you add music when scraping paint 😂 I had goose bumps from my head to my finger tips from the sound - like nails on a chalk board 😂
Got it 😂 Promise to add music next time 🙉
@@midcenturyflipper lol thanks
You could always turn the volume down.

What a Beauty. So worth all the work. Makes you wonder why they painted it.❤
Totally agree! Thanks for watching. And - a new restoration video up today 😀
I think we can blame that other mid century furniture style - scandi - for the white painted top.
Right before we all began truly appreciating MCM for its lovely wood and stylish lines there was a ‘trend’ towards scandi. I feel a lot of people tried to ‘update’ their furniture with a coat of white paint. Just a thought….
So glad you restored it. ❤
Thank you!🙏🏻
Beautiful job
Thank you 🙏🏻
So glad I found this channel 🎉
Welcome 🙏🏻🙂
Absolutely beautiful ❤️😊
Thank you 🙏🏻
Really makes me wonder why wou I d you paint this beauty?
Well I didn't. It was like this when I got it 🙂
This turned out lovely. Try using mineral spirits to check the wood color instead of water. Water will raise the grain.
I’ll try that next time! Great advice 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Raising the grain is what needed to be done to get to the lower white paint in the grain that is why the second sanding looked so much better. If you just want to see the color then you are correct just Mineral Spirits
Another way to remove the paint from the wood grain is using paint remover and a brass brush. Worked for me numerous times.
Trick I saw was after you take the paint off, spray with water to raise the grain to get the paint out of the grain. And if you have a customer that wants to paint or go with the latest trend. Put a clear coat down first.
@@BadlandsGecko I was gonna ask if water and a steam would raise that out enough.
@@leslieblackshear802 - Steam might work
Understatedly, simple elegance. Love it.
Thank you 😀
Paint stripper. For paint in the pores of the wood, the answer is paint stripper and a hard plastic brush.
Looks sooo good! I hate when that paint gets down in the wood grain.. it can be difficult to get out!! Nice save!!!❤
Big thanks! It was a struggle but worth the time! Thank you for watching 🙏🏻
Lovely job. I was wondering if using a chemical stripper with fine wire wool would get that paint out of the grain?
That’s a lucky find!
It sure was 🤩
Great Job!
Thanks 🙏🏻
What a beautiful restoration
Thank you John! Its was a fun project! New video up soon so be sure to subscribe 🙂🙏🏻
the white paint in the grain is best removed with acetone and 000 steel wool, takes some patience and good pair of gloves. I would then follow with an oxalic acid treatment to even out the color. This will prevent you from over sanding. Have to be very gentle with veneer.
Great advice! I’ll be sure to try that next time. Big thanks 🙏🏻
when you've got paint in the pores like that, chemical stripper is really the way to go. a couple of rounds should loosen the paint and allow you remove it with steel wool and paint thinner
Correct! I learned that technique after the project was done. Works perfect! Thanks for watching 😀
Such a beautiful table 😍😍
Agree!! How could someone paint the top white? 😱
Fantastic both job and piece 👍
Thank you!!
Wow! Why would you ever paint that?! Beautiful!
I know, right? Really happy with the result. Thanks for watching my videos 🙏🏻
wonderful work!!
Thank you 🙏🏻
I’ve seen Dashner Design and Restoration use grain filler to cover over residual paint deep in the grain. It seemed to work pretty well for him.
Beautiful.
🙏🏻🙏🏻
Beautiful restoration…you saved a beauty….what kind of oil did you use?
Thank you Linda! I used teak oil / danish oil for this project.

Id have to have ear protection to use that scraper.
I know 🙉
I remember my uncle saying that Teak is very heavy, is that the case? Also, did you go over the legs of the table?
It’s quite heavy, yes. The base and the legs were alteady in good condition 🙃✌🏻
Serious question. Why not use paint stripper or a heat gun.
Next time 🙂 Thank you for watching!
Why would anyone paint teak!!??😮
My point exactly 😱
Timelapse is your friend.
I hear you 😅✌🏻
🎉❤🎉
❤
Paint remover instead of more sanding next time.
Yep ✌🏻
Beauuutiful.
Thank you
Oh😫 fingernails on the chalkboard couldn’t take it
Sorry about that. No sound next time 🙉
@@midcenturyflipper 😁
What do you have against paint stripper? You would not have had to sand through half the thickness of the veneer...
Hi Logan! I tried paint stripper on a similar project and unfortunately the result was the same 🙃
Eh... such is life... :)
@@logangrey5398 yup 😅
Beautiful!!!
I wanted to watch your bideo, but i dont like watching videos where there's no talking-just texts and the text that was put up was soooo small. Sorry.
Got it! Maby I’ll use my bad english from now on 🙏🏻🙂
Why would you not use paint stripper, rater than hacking away at the top like that. As well we threatening the structure of the table by kneeling on it...
Beautiful!
