It's because some magazine like Woman's Day, Family Circle, or Good Housekeeping told them to "refresh your room's look by painting that old wooden chest of drawers or table." They run that every few months, at least twice a year, from the 1920s to today. Probably because slapping on paint is an easier and more startling change than renewing a finish. There used to be more of it in Popular Science Monthly and Popular Mechanics, too.

😄 that’s very interesting, I can understand painting a piece of it was beat to hell and is on its way out but it’s becoming pretty trendy because of what you mentioned

A lot of times mid century pieces are built with multiple species of wood/veneer. The manufacturer tended to have the piece toned for uniformity so it was really out of habit why I stained it.
@diytainment yeah I know, which is why I was surprised to see it stained, I wouldn't expect the burl to take the stain well or evenly. Looks great!
It’s probably because it’s a wipe on stain, maybe if a penetrating stain was used it wouldn’t of looked so good 🤔

This is a lovely piece of furniture now, but I'm equally impressed with how you've crafted this video. The pacing, the environmental sound, the way you get so many interesting aesthetic angles on something as simple as stripping paint or sanding or spraying lacquer, it's all very engaging. Without any music or voiceover, that is very impressive. Great job all around.

It's hard to understand why someone thought it was a good idea to desecrate with white paint, this beautiful piece of furniture! Fortunately you have been able to restore it to perfection. I agree with you, but at the same time it occurred to me that the paint likely preserved the dresser. Looks like the paint took the beating 😊
Haha yeah it had the first coat (black) then the white to preserve what was underneath
Unusual camera work. I found it a bit disconcerting at first but grew to like it. Lovely nature shots as well were soothing.

@@diytainment I have mostly used it to remove lacquer or whatever was used with MCM furniture. It is a good product but it never worked as well for me.
Yeah they mentioned it’s really good for vintage/mid-century finishes but it’s a toss up for everything else
