Another 9 years and we’ll be closer to 2077 than 1990

I was really expecting there to be some sort of prediction from an economist saying the world would collapse in 2077 or a popular book like something from Asimov was making predictions for 2077. So this is kind of funny and sad at the same time lol

Two examples isn't "every sci-fi game".

Also the comparison to the names of actors to a choice people make when writing storys seems like a bit of a stretch for the point he was trying to make if that makes sense.

I know of one sci-fi set in 2077 and the footage is all throughout this video; every year referenced is also something referenced as a significant fate in Cyberpunk so.... this is kind of a 'why is Cyberpunk 2077 and assorted connected media so great?' the answer is because it just is Buster... no need to think so deeply about it, you might hurt yourself.

I’ll be 80 in 2077 assuming I live that long. Crazy to think

I find it odd that some anime and anime movies show a future taking place in either 199X or 20XX. And then some stories have the 2020s in the story line in some science fiction from the 80s.

Setting the significance of the US civil war on one level with those of the two world wars is just too American for my modest European self-consciouseness🤣😂😅

Fallout, Blade Runner 2049 and Cyberpunk 2077 are all alternate timelines with alternate technology evolution though. They could have set Cyberpunk 2077 in 2025 and it still would have had cyborgs and flying cars and stuff because they had that stuff in-universe in 2013 and 2020 too. Imo it should have been set in the 2030's, it would have fit better, 2077 was way too far out from the original timeline and felt arbitrary.

i struggle a lot with dates in writing because like, in my setting lets say in 2024 were exactly like we are now, and then at some point we build a dyson swarm and colonize mars, but when? 2050? 2100? 2200? 2077?

This is gonna be a long comment, but hopefully you find use out of it:
It helps if you mark a "divergent point" in your writing, where the fictional world that you've made up diverges from our real world due to a specific moment in time where our real world and your fictional world splits into distinct and separate "timelines". Basically think of it as an alternate universe where "if X never happened" or "if X happened instead" at a certain point in time in your writing.
If you want to predict when exactly we would build a Dyson swarm and colonize Mars... you have to understand that usually throughout history, the most technological progress has happened when societies were at war, or under pressure to survive due to limited resources (up to a limit). This is also reflected in the quote "necessity is the mother of invention".
For example, societies rapidly progressed in technology during/after WW1 and WW2, with it marking the end with the most technologically advanced weapon (atomic bomb). Even societies that were severely affected by the war such as Japan managed to boom with rapid growth in economy, and therefore rapid progress in technology... with Japanese cars such as Toyota - TV's, cameras, and music players from Sony - and video games from Nintendo, all becoming household names across the world.
Even after WW2, there was still the Cold War between USA and the Soviet Union, and significant progress in technology were made which all resulted in landing on the Moon. People might tell you that the US went to the Moon because they were "explorers and pioneers" - but the true underlying reason was because the US was at war with the USSR.
Basically what I'm trying to say is that it is completely realistic to have our world colonize Mars by 2030 or 2040... as long as there is a significant enough pressure pushing society to do so. If right now we realize a world ending asteroid is heading our way in 5 years time - there would be unbelievable advancements in technology as we quickly build asteroid deterrence systems and have a portion of the population quickly land on Mars as a "Plan B" if things go wrong and the asteroid hits Earth, etc.
Or you could have our world colonizing Mars in by 2500 because our society constantly degraded as giant corporations started becoming monopolies, polluting the world, decreasing the quality of life, etc. Ultimately people becoming drained by life with no aspirations or goals because they cannot even afford to have families and buy basic items due to skyrocketed cost of living and inflation, etc.

Na man, we already lived through Back to the Future and Blade Runner, we got all the suck and none of the cool stuff. 2077 will be the exact same... Truth be told humanity stagnated big time in the last decades, we're entering a time of developmental stasis where 2114 will look a lot like 2014.
