  • Carl Reiner's comedy - from creating "The Dick Van Dyke Show," to directing films and sharing the stage with friend Mel Brooks - shaped our culture with humor that spanned generations. Now, two years after his death, the National Comedy Center, in Jamestown, New York, has named its extensive comedy archives in his honor. Correspondent Jim Axelrod talked with the funnyman's children - actor and director Rob Reiner, psychoanalyst Annie Reiner, and artist Lucas Reiner - about their dad's museum-quality legacy.

    Can you imagine your son saying that the best advice he got from you was watching you live your life? ❤ what an incredible legacy that is.

    Carl Reiner and Estelle “I’ll have what she’s having” Reiner, are forever laughing up a storm together, in heaven. Both of them are truly missed.

    Carl Reiner is one of the greatest souls that has ever existed. I remember seeing him in The Show of Shows. As a child living with immense cruelty, he gave me hope through laughter that led me to many years of performance. I discovered the great love I had for entertaining through song, dance and making others laugh. In his later years he was kind enough to share inspiration with me over his Twitter feed. His never ending grasp of teaching wisdom through deeds and actions makes me realize that is the one greatest gifts of life, to love one another. I am certain he still leads others in laughter wherever he sits today. Thank you Carl Reiner and thank you to his lovely family for sharing so much of his life in Jamestown. I must get there to see this exhibit. ☮️

    Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner, the best of what Hollywood gave us. Laughter will always be King ( It's good to be the King). Love that Carl has his own place in that museum and I know Mel will also. Thank you both for the gifts you gave us all.

      I just finished reading ALL ABOUT ME, Mel Brooks' memoir. If you haven't read it, you'd probably love it. It's also available as an Audio book, with Mel reading it.

    I was a 10 year old when I discovered Your Show of Shows. I didn't know then that Reiner had written most of those sketches, but I knew that I loved watching Carl, Sid, Imogene and Howard & couldn't get enough of them. I loved all the shows Carl wrote for. All In The Family, during the Vietnam and Civil Rights days, was funny and it was speaking truth to power. Carl and Mel were
    front and center in my life from the very first time I saw either of them. Fabulous legacy and his son, Rob watched and listened. Thanks for this!

    Such a friendship with Mel that he felt the need to still go visit Carl's home everyday after his death.

    I heard Carl Reiner and Rob Reiner on a radio show once, I remember to this day how flattered and humble Carl Reiner reacted to the compliments of the radio audience. Trophies are nice but we should honor him for being an excellent father, husband, grandfather and friend. May he rest in peace.

    And this place is in Jamestown New York. It's about as convenient as Cleveland for the rock and roll museum.

    By now, we all know that Rob Reiner is currently best known for his political activism. I hope his bias doesn't cause the museum to share that bias. I don't think his father would want that, and it would be a disappointment because a comedy museum is a great idea.

    • @sandramorey2529
      @sandramorey2529 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Mr. Fancypants: Carl was also a progressive and somewhat of an activist. I wouldn't worry about Rob's progressive bias doing any damage to Carl's legacy. All those guys were Progressives and didn't care who knew it as long as they could stay on the air. W/o them we'd still be in Vietnam.

      Hate to break it to you, pal. But chances are, every single piece of art you love (comedy, movies, TV, literature, music) was created by a progressive. Think about that for a second. All that genius is the exact opposite of what you are. The problem isn't with the artists, it's with you.

    • @Frankiefirenze

      Mr fancy pants.. I assure you... Mel Brooks.. Carl Reimer... All of them are more left and more progressive than Rob Reiner ever was!
