    My dad had scar tissue in his throat that made swallowing difficult for him. He would get food stuck in his esophagus at nearly every meal, then abruptly get up and leave the table. He was quite embarrassed by it, more so if we drew attention to it. Also, because it happened daily and we knew it was not a blockage of his airway, we got used to the unappetizing sounds of him aggressively clearing his throat, both at the table and in the bathroom. I can totally relate to looking like a jerk to other people! Many times over the years, dinner guests looked around in alarm as my dad ran away from the table gagging on his food while we all casually continued eating!

      @kstepko ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@damatar That was the case for my dad as well. He struggled with it for 50 years. Finally, it got bad enough that he got a pill wedged in there, which put him into the hospital for a week because he could not even get water past the blockage and he was getting dehydrated. They diagnosed him with Barrett’s esophagus, put him on a medication, and after a few years of quarterly checkups, he had no further issues.

    • @LindaC616
      @LindaC616 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @damatar since at the time they thought I might also have an ulcer, they were sending the camera down and the doctor just inflated it with a balloon to widen it. It's funny, that you mentioned that, because I also have had a history of acid reflux, although since I eat smaller meals it doesn't bother me as much, and losing weight again would help too. Chicken breast and bread still bother me a little bit, but I just have to eat more slowly than I did before. And there wasn't an ulcer, it turned out that the burning was just a result of trying out intermittent fasting

    Gaffigan is so fascinating to me, he does more or less the same style of bits, and always has, but I think he keeps it fresh because it's always 1. about himself and his own experiences, but 2. it's the absurdity. Its so much worse when they mobile orders where we can't explain why their dumb order is literally impossible. You just... do your best.
    Fun fact: there was an era drive thrus werent allowed cuz they limited customer interaction. In malls they couldn't put out water pitchers, people had to order it face to face. Even if it took more time. Now, depending on the location, the norm is walk in, grab your mobile order from the counter and walk out. Without interacting with a soul or looking up from your phone. I only been to a Starbucks once, but his description of not only the customers, but employes was straight. And I only stood around for 30 minutes, and Still didnt get what I wanted, and there was only 2 customers in that 30 minutes!!! Jim talking about donut shops Is So True. Their always in the back, all the good donuts were taken early early morning and it does feel and look a little like a de je vieu scene of a movie crime scene. I was in NYC, and yes the homeless guys open doors for you, they want a tip, and expect it. Jim always calls it what it is but with tender humor.
    I believe his family is his rock, and he loves his wife so so much. He always talks about them . Mr Gaffigan is a good guy, and one of the best comedians in his field.

      We used to have one at the ground floor of our corporate building, and during one quarter-end when we stayed late, a few of us decided to get some coffee.
      I don't normally drink the stuff, but if I need to work late on something I'll bite the bullet and have some. However, I only need it for what it does, not what it tastes or smells like, so when it was my turn I just asked for a large coffee with.. nothing, and could instantly feel the barista judging me for it.
      To this day I can't tell if he was relieved at getting a simple order, or if he wanted to punch me in the face for not getting plain coffee somewhere else....

      @@vtr0104 Hard call, it depends on the era of Starbucks; up to the early 2000's, a Starbucks Barista was like a badge of superiority. Better wages for food service, special knowledge of coffee and tea, and leading in a growing popularity. It was part of the schtick to be a snob. Then the tables turned and the focus became about dealing with huge consumption needs. Fast fast fast service for increasingly complicated drinks and menus, drive through service, etc.
