  • A record of two sessions (recorded 14.07.20 and 14.08.20) fished at Splash Point / Redoubt Fortress in Eastbourne (East Sussex, UK).
    I had previously fished this mark in October 2019 (see • CATCH FISH AT EASTBOUR... ) and caught a typical autumn mixed bag, which included a thornback ray. I really wanted to come back and fish here in the spring, but circumstances didn't allow that, so late summer had to do; still with the idea of catching plaice. However no plaice showed in the first attempt, with bream, mackerel and scad saving the day. An early plaice gave hope in the second visit, but soles made an appearance, together with small smooth hounds and mackerel, making this an enjoyable session. All rigs used and venue location are covered in this video.
    This video accompanies the series I produced on catching fish at a range of marks in Eastbourne during spring and summer:

    Congratulation on 2000 subscribers but I'm not surprised - your videos are an absolute joy to watch and I really look forward to each week's offering. Bit late watching this one however...I developed raging tooth ache Bank Holiday Sunday culminating in the offending tooth being extracted on Wednesday and I really haven't felt like doing very much at all! Those Colmic rods look superb. Did you obtain them from Italy? That seems to be the only source from my, albeit limited, investigation. Great video and a splendid outcome. Cheers. Ken

    Very enjoyable Rod, thank you. Sole is definitely your favourite fish, that smile said it all. What size hooks are best for sole? I am guessing that lug or ragworm will catch sole.

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are right Jerry - I love to catch soles. Pity is, I also love to eat them, as much as I would like to let them all go! The best hook, by far, is a Mustad size 3 Nordic bend - the size 4 is too small (OK for 'slips') - size 3 is perfect with small ragworm (normally I find this to be the best bait) and small or the tail end of lugworm. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Very good man ur good sea angler I'm ok fishing but not best WOULED you use ? Do you use a tapered shock leader on ur braid or just have shock leader on trace how come you cast that way is it better il like use braid I'm got advised tackle shop 60lb braid on leader I want more distance more as possible just in case I need distance wen walter get low were I go.
    Can you do a video how you cast like that
    If I get 25 braid next time will it be ok with a bit of a wack and a 8oz weight at maximum

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Antony. With 25lb braid, I would use a mono shock leader of about 50lb and just an overhead cast like I do, but with the reel, the right way up! I have a peculiar casting style, so I wouldn't recommend anyone trying to copy it! I just don't get on with tapered leaders. Go for a strong, but low diameter line for shock lesders to avoid getting wind knots. Good luck and thanks for watching.

    Great video👍🏻, can I ask you, what braid are you using and what braid to leader knot, as I had a nightmare with mine during the last session, I am a novice when it comes to surf fishing

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching and your interest Audrius. I use Whiplash Pro - 20lb generally. I have spools with 30lb and other reels with 50lb braid for the odd occasion when that's needed. I just use a double uni knot - my White Horses video shows how I tie a leader to braid. I hope that helps.

    Nice vid again. Where do you source your bait from? I think I’m from the same neck of the woods as you, Essex area, but I always have trouble getting bait, lug rag, etc. Do you use mail order for black lug? Cheers.

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching @anglerfish1001. I tend to dig my own blowlug at Southend. I frequently buy ragworm from either Newhaven or Portsmouth, depending on which I'm nearest to at the time. Black lug normally comes from Dungeness area - number of shops I visit get this. I'm not sure what the supply situation is at the moment regarding Welsh blacks, but if I can get hold of that, I prefer it to the Kent stuff.

    Can I ask, you're the only fisherman I see on youtube setting your rods almost parallel to the sea, what's the reason behind that? :D
    Cracking videos!

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes - I generally fish for flatfish and keep the rods low if I can (weed and waves and wind may put pay to that), since they are bottom feeders. With braid, I keep a tight line, so cast up drift / current and hope to have the line from my rod tip as close to 90 degrees as possible - this helps with bite detection. Contrary to common belief, not all flatfish hook themselves - I want to see the bites and decide when to strike. Doesn't always work - but that's my style. Thanks for watching and commenting Stefan.

    • @BarryBollox.
      @BarryBollox. 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do this for enhanced bite detection. And to save my neck from aching. If you have have your rods facing where you cast you usually have to angle them high to see any rod tip movement. Bare in mind i use 15ft rods. Its more chilled to just hold them off to the side.
