Should you upgrade your clutch?

  • Hey guys this is just a quick run down on switching from a OEM Dual Mass Flywheel clutch setup to a Solid Mass Lightwieght flywheel setup. That usually results in Clutch chatter which is a Gearbox rollover noise. It's very normal and not a bad thing. the clutch chatter aka gearbox rollover in this video on the genesis is from a competition clutch stage 2 kit which has a lightwieght solid mass flywheel a 2600ilb clamp force pressure plate and a kevlar friction disc.

    Supposedly mine has a stage 2 clutch and I get the chatter all the time, then I find out it's normal lol. Does it go away for you if you push the shifter a little bit into gear without the clutch, or when you push in the clutch? I need to replace mine though, started slipping this morning in 6th gear on a pull with my 2.0t =(

    • @RspecNick

      Yea man its completely normal the sound should go away with the clutch pedal pressed in. The AC usually makes it sound worse you can actually have your RPMs jumped up by like 100-200rpm and the sound should go away as well that always requires a tuner to modify your RPMs too tho. How many miles did you have on your clutch setup I'm at about 17k miles on the stage comp clutch still feels pretty good.

      @@RspecNick Well aside from the slip this morning, it lasted me a little over 3 years from when I bought the car with lots of L.A. traffic fighting. I also drive it pretty hard. I have an SFR 1.5 tune with a few other toys and push about 21psi.

      @@UberDAHnooB nice so I got some time I dont plan on replacing it again until I go boost so that should line up great then if it continues to hold. I almost got a 2.0 bk2 but at the time I was like ehhhhh thinking back on it tho I should have just gotten one way easier to get decent power

      @@RspecNick I regretted not doing my research when I bought my 2011 and found out that the 2013+ had more power. I would advise buying an extended warranty if you get a used turbo car since I had to have the engine replaced not long after I bought it. You just don't know what went on with it before you bought it. Since that though, the car has been very good with only minor stuff like the starter, alternator, oil lines going into and out of the turbo needing to be replaced. It had 66k miles on it, I am at 127k now in 3 years.
      I gotta pass out, have a good one!

    I have some absolutely horrible chatter when my clutch isn't put in. When I push the clutch in it goes away but God it's horrible. I've got a 2011 2t, and I'm having to do my starter and fix my ac not blowing very much air. So after 11 yrs these are the 1st things that have "went bad"...

    I have a stock 2012 2.0t at least I think it’s stock and have a lot of chatter. Would replacing the flywheel with another oem one do the trick? I was told the 2012s have dual mass stock

    • @RspecNick
      @RspecNick  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea the all the gennys have dmf stock I'm not 100% sure about the 2.0s but I know the 3.8 bk1 (09-12) can actually use the bk2 (2013-16) dmf which is stronger and oem. If your on Facebook ask Tim herber in the genesis groups he should be able to hook up you with a good deal on a clutch kit replacement. I got my whole setup from him for 980 for the comp clutch stage 2 kit. It was a bit cheaper for the oem Valeo kit tho.

    • @RspecNick
      @RspecNick  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      But if you replace the flywheel might as well do a complete refresh while your in there new slave,clutch,pressure plate and flywheel.

      Yep I still slightly get both still even with the megan trans mount,torque solutions shifter bushings and running the redline trans fluid. I've been told to try to 3point8 performance engine leash but at that point I'm just gonna swap my 13 trans for a 15-16 trans. Those 2 years have the better trans parts for the manuals

    Question how's the drivability how much harder is it from oem

    • @RspecNick
      @RspecNick  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alittle more effort is needed when pushing in the clutch and engagement is tricky at first. It's slightly forgiving if you ride the clutch on hills but in stop and go traffic its almost annoying. Honestly tho overall it's not bad once you get used to it minus the gearbox rollover noises that makes it sound like a diesel car. I'm about 16k miles in and it still feels good to me.

    I'm thinking about getting a 2.0t, but was wondering about the insurance on it - do you know how much it would be for a 17 y/o on a family plan?

    • @RspecNick

      Should be fairly cheap depending on your record. I know at 24 with 2 speeding tickets and a failure to stop at a stop sign my insurance for the 13 3.8 track would have been 430 a month

      If you want new OEM parts go onto the genesis coupe owners facebook groups and find Albert Hwang. Hes in korea and is legit I've gotten alot of stuff from him recently in under a weeks time frame so from Korea to Pennsylvania in under a week which is pretty damn good if you factor in customs clearance.

    • @RspecNick

      Not usually i know certain car brands have better aftermarket support so the chatter isn't as bad. It's only cause from switching out the dual mass flywheel for a solid single mass flywheel.
