    They are just playing the game. They don't know who they are messing with. Cheers mate and good luck with this battle.

    So what was the end result from Dayco?

      They paid for the head repair.

    From what I can remember, the Dayco specs for that idler pulley bolt were 50Nm plus 90° ??
    I'm pretty sure that's more like a torque to yield cylinder head bolt spec, in which case you've got em cos THEIR instructions were wrong 👍

      Seems way tight eh.?..They say it wasn't tight enough.?!!!...Cheers Lance.

      Same as the VAG torque spec for that bolt. This kit looks so dodgy when you get it .. I returned mine straight away… even had the same scribbled out different part number on the box.

    I did run into one case where the company went above and beyond what they needed to. That was the Stihl saw company, a customer came into our shop with what looked like a brand new saw but in fact was several months out of warentee. What I found was the factory failed to put the wrist pin keepers in and when he turned the saw sideways and sawing the pin came down and locked the engine, I contacted the distributor and they paid for all the parts minus my labor,, I thought that was very fair.

    My Haynes VW manual also states 50nm plus 90' as I'm about to do my timing belt I'm wondering what I should do

      Well after all the smoke had cleared I used the old bolt and some blue Locktite and did it up F'n tight by hand and a breaker bar...You know...Just tight enough by feel...Worked a treat and still all good...My thoughts are to not change all the hard wear like they say but only the belt and associated pulleys...Good luck mate.

    Of course they are going to reject the claim!!!!
    These corporations will always blame us stupid mechanics!!!!
    That bolt had a problem when it left the factory and they know it!!!!
    Those same marks would be there whether or not an impact was used!!!
    First off if the impact was the cause, then it would of stretched the treads in the aluminum casting not CRACKED the bolt!!!! That bolt had an internal stress crack when it was made!!!! It happens!!!! But they will never own up to it!!!!
    Ziggy there's now way you broke that bolt!!!!! Good luck with it all!!!
    Keep Rocking It Out Down Under Ziggy!!!!

    We knew that was coming. Maybe in a few years you'll get the feel for tightening bolts. Keep working at it and someday you'll get it. You can are the scapegoat.

    So they are saying it was caused by being simultaneously over tightened and being left loose, Thanks Dayco seems legit 🤔

    All the tech speak in the summary can be reduced to "its a textbook fatigue propagation to failure of a crack"
    Bit too easy for them to say "incorrect assembly", and, I bet, difficult to fight from your end.

    • @ziggassedup
      @ziggassedup  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found a German Factory workshop manual with the torque specs today and they are what I set the bolt to so that leaves a two options..1 The bolt failed or 2 The idler locked up and unwound the bolt...Cheers mate.

      @lloyddurbin4607 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ziggassedup at least the manual confirms what you already knew - your workmanship wasn't the cause. I hope that you manage to get them to concede that their product had a quality issue.

    send the bullshit artists this video, personally id boycott their parts from now on, will be interesting to see if their bolts have done this before, and the possibly theyre chinese made perhaps to a lower standard, years ago working on caterpillars bolts broke on us , mexican made and very poor quality. cost the company millions. back then we had soooooo many issues with big cat diggers it was insane all the while cat denied it all yet all the minesites i went to exact same issues again and again No other manufacturer though funny that.

    What a load of rubbish. Rattle gun marks on the head of the bolt my ass!
    You torqued it and marked it with a white pen. End of story.

    That's a disgrace, how do you blame the mechanic with lies like that. Rattle gun ,even a kid wouldn't do that.then they say it wasn't tight. The bolt was probably Chinese shit, it's beyond me how they can put it back on the mechanic especially a top mechanic who was building cars before they were even born. Seems to be the way of today, everything you buy is Chinese junk and companies won't take responsibility for the mess . The letter sounds like it was written by a clown who knows nothing about engines. The bolt failed ,it's not hard to see . I'm too scared to buy parts and tools ,even the good stuff is rubbish today. Have a good break mate ,Dayco can kiss my ass.

    They are trying to assume. The bolt made looks of poor quality. Tell them to do the job next time! You do a great job and do things correctly. Rattle gun… lol tell me they are shifting the blame for a corrupt company not looking at the actual place where this part is under high scrutiny of tension. The bolt looks fine, I saw the previous video, it wasn’t yanked on quickly. You had tension and torque settings given to you. Shoddy dayco… very shoddy. Won’t be going to them again!
