people here needs to know that a big part of the theming engine rewrite is making the code less hacky because a lot of emulationstation themes use hacks to create there great visuals

Hi guys! It works great! Excellent job. One question, how to add bezels? I was trying to do that to my arcade (mame) games but I was unable to.
Happy to hear that you enjoy using the application! As for bezels this has to be setup in the emulator as ES-DE is a frontend application and does not configure emulators.
Is there any reason to use this over the Retrobat build of Emulation Station? It seems far more sophisticated as far as things like theme animations go. I realize this has a more newbie-friendly emulator set up and a sort of automatic media linking but those things seem fairly trivial in comparison.
retrobat is windows only.. and for windows yea its better
one way that may help to think about it:
- ES-DE is a pure frontend that you bring your emulators to (and their configurations)
- Retrobat is self contained frontend and emulators combined.
Both work well for different use cases so we recommend thinking about what preferences work best for you and then deciding from there.

Absolutely beautiful. I was wondering where this frontend scraps artwork from? Is it a custom database? And how consistent is it regarding quality? I'm asking before diving in because this is my biggest concern.

Need a killer theme designed with an arcade cabinet in mind. The current themes are not bad and I'm sure more will come but that one killer theme is missing. I made a theme called robospin for attract-mode years ago that found its way on a lot of raspberry Pi's. If I could find some motivation and time I would take shot at designing a theme for this frontend.
I think a killer theme means different things for different people but more themes are in development and as I expand ES-DE with more theme engine functionality in future releases more advanced designs will become possible!
@@ES-DE_Frontend My favorite theme for ES (Retrobat Windows version) is "Platform". I took a look at the XML to consider porting it to ES-DE and it was terrifying. The problem I have with declarative languages is that you can't step through them to see what the heck is going on.

Yep, I remember well that website's forum being trashed with spam probably because it had been abandoned by its maintainers and mods. Fortunately, the project stayed alive and is going strong thanks to other amazing people who adopted the source code for EmulationStation
At 1:30 i saw windows on the front end, how do you do that? And what version of windows can it run?
You can launch shortcuts or scripts from the windows system so it can be basically anything. On Windows it can be any .lnk shortcut for instance, on macOS you would probably run via CodeWeavers (although I've not tested that), and on Linux it could also be anything like Lutris games, Steam, Epic Games Store, source ports etc.
how do i add cemu to this? or even retro arch? is it different on M1, i can't seem to figure out where to put the files. i've installed retro arch and cores, but they do not populate.
also i can't set a hot key to exit back from a game to es-ds. how is that accomplished? thank you!

Hello,is there a version for 32Bit Windows? i cannot seem to find any in gitlab,are there plans to make any?
As 32-bit operating systems have been obsolete for many years there are no plans to make such a release.
Hi. There is some way to get the Fronted with DirectX (windows 10). OpenGL does not work on my old team. And according to the log file is the cause that there will be no program as it flashes and closes. I would appreciate it.

Superbe taf! J'adore! J'ai ajouté tous mes jeux par contre, j'ai un gros soucis, je voudrais ajouter mes émulateurs qui sont déjà tous configurés (retroarch, yuzu, pcsx2, rpcs3, redream etc...) mais je ne trouve aucune info de comment ajouter les émulateurs :(

Hello I've added supermodel 3 roms to it's folder on 2.0 but it's saying can't find emulator? Can you help on steam deck cheers
Please ask support questions in our subreddit or Discord server, but for Supermodel I know that the EmuDeck team is working on setting this up automatically. Otherwise there are instructions in the ES-DE user guide.

Is there a reason why it's suddenly running at a lower framerate when I'm scrolling through systems? It was smooth when I first installed it, but now looks like it's scrolling like at 20fps.
Can't say I've heard about that problem before and I'm not sure what could cause it. Maybe you've applied some sort of application-specific graphics settings to ES-DE in your operating system? If you need further support then please ask on our subreddit or join our Discord server.
@@ES-DE_Frontend I don't know. The only thing I have done is change the theme and replace the scraper screenshots with my own. I figured it would go back to normal if I restarted my pc, but it didn't. So, I did a full shutdown and it worked, only for it to return again.
@@SP-vl1jh Sorry I don't know what could cause this. You could try increasing the VRAM limit in the Other settings menu though, it may help if you have a very demanding theme. But like mentioned, please join our subreddit or Discord server if you want additional help, I prefer not to answer support questions on TH-cam.
@@ES-DE_Frontend I'm using the Art Book Next theme and I did try raising the vram limit, but no go. I'm gonna try to reinstall it and hope it goes away. It's weird though, when going through the settings all the dialog boxes are smooth, but when scrolling through systems it's like the framerate drops to 30fps or something.
@@ES-DE_Frontend I think I fixed it. Before uninstalling it I decided to switch the processor from integrated to the nvidia processor in the nvidia control panel and it's smooth now.

Only Mojave and later is supported.

@@laurafreeman5278 Well ES-DE is open source so you could try to compile it yourself. There are detailed instructions at the ES-DE GitLab repository. You will need to modify some of the CMake configuration and there may be other issues too depending on which Clang compiler version is shipped with High Sierra. There may also be some difficulties building some of the dependencies for such an old operating system but possibly you could roll back to older releases of some libraries. Additional changes may be needed to the ES-DE C++ code too but I really don't know as I haven't compiled on a legacy macOS release in a very long time, and never for ES-DE 2.0.x

MacOS, cannot find an option to take out of Full Screen Mode
ES-DE always run in fullscreen mode by default, if you want windowed mode then you'll need to specify the window size using the --resolution command line option. Just remember that macOS has a very bizarre resolution logic of using points instead of pixels but you'll figure it out :)

Yes PS3 games have been supported since several releases back.
Will the Steamdeck version be updated?
All versions get updated at the same time, except RetroDECK as they build ES-DE themselves and do not use the official release.
