The ONLY Super NT review that matters...from the most trustworthy channel on retro gaming (as evident of Kevtris's trust in giving them the system nearly two months ahead of time!) Thanks MLiG!!!
[Try4ce] We prioritized getting our hands on some C64 gear just because we really wanted to shoot some relevant b-roll for those few seconds in the beginning of the video!
My Life in Gaming Great Vid! Did Analogue happen to mention when we might see the analog video adapter for the Super NT? Also, which console color is your fav 👍
kevtris Thanks again for all your hard work on these systems. I own the original Analogue NT and should be receiving the Super NT as soon as my order ships!
@@MisterRorschach90 Well of course the NT Mini is preferable, but the prices aren't comparable. The AVS is $200-ish. The NT Mini sells for at *least* $500 on eBay, and upwards of multiple thousands, which is of course absurd. Unless you're trying to say something else... your comment is either worded strangely or I am just dense today. What does the Super NT have to do with this?
I really like how you guys go into a ton of detail and cover just about everything you make a video on.. so much better than these other guys just going over it quick just to get a video out..Thank you for your hard work!
With out a doubt, this is the best and most informative review of the SuperNT on the internet. Really no need to go anywhere else for all the info one needs.
i've watched several Super Nt reviews and this one is by far my favorite. more objective data here than in others - a LOT more. your content frequently exceeds your peers in this way. great video, great channel.
I cant wait for a sneak peak of the new mega SG - but I was wondering... considering its using the same chip as the Super NT, and they plan to sell cartridge adapters for plugging in master system games etc. Why cant the Mega SG also get an SNES cartridge adapter? I am not sure if I want to spend the money for an Analogue NT & SD2SNES + Mega SG & Mega EverDrive - good interview question for kevtris
@@bigcheesepuff1 they could port the Snes core to mega sg but not an adaptor as certain snes games require more power through the cartridge contacts for snes special chip games. Of course they also wouldn't as there a business who try to give you the real experience with real cartridges. I have a super nt and pre-ordered the mega sg. Your never lose money on it anyway
Analogue is very smart in their marketing. I have no doubt that they'll allow Kevtris to release a jailbreak for the system in the future. They'll wait until the initial sales die down a bit and then let him release the jailbreak to make a news splash and get a significant sales bump again. Just like with the Nt mini. Personally, I'm also hoping that with the additional FPGA room he mentioned having, he'll implement the features the SD2SNES has, with MSU1 audio and even the various add-on chip cores. That way, you'd just load up your Super Nt with ROMs and it'll play all those special-chip games AND be able to do MSU audio, all by itself with no SD2SNES needed. If that happens, that's when I'll buy the thing.
Yeah I assume it'd be a huge breech of contract if he did it without permission. He could even open himself up to being sued. Personally I still think the jailbreak will happen, when Analogue is ready. Even if he doesn't release other cores for the system, I think he'll allow the loading of ROMs.
I must have watched that little beginning Play it Loud vignette at least 10 times now, I love it! You guys have a real talent for capturing that time period!
You guys have some great video editing skills. This felt like a very professional interview/overview of the system. Great job! The information is much appreciated.
Gah... this is truly their best best best video yet imo... everything feels much cleaner and accurate than before (I could be wrong), it's such a delight seeing all those colors and shapes, and the lighting feels much smoother now... thanks guys.
Since I've been hunting for a 1-chip SNES... I just came across this video... wow, I think my hunt is finished! This is actually one of my favorite videos on TH-cam.
I watched this so many times before I finally ordered one lol :) I still come back to recapture the feeling. No other console has ever had such a quality library of games as the snes.
Yet another fantastic episode! It's great to see how much more improved this thing is able to be thanks to the greater FPGA used. I am impressed with the visuals and even though I already have a SNES with an upscaler, I am still tempted to get one of these.
Great video! I have a Super Famicom hooked up to a 14" PVM over RGB in my office, but your review here convinced me to order a Super NT for the living room. It arrived today and, after applying your recommended settings, it looks absolutely amazing!!!!
Great review as always. Just got a Super Retron HD from Hyperkin not long ago and it seems pretty good, but I might have to upgrade to this with all the features and tweaks considered. Also, watching your videos with headphones is a real treat - your sound balancing and channel panning is really satisfying on the ears haha
ChaseFace, By using FPGAs it's almost guaranteed that they aren't stealing non-commercial emulators from Retroarch/Libretro. Some businesses in this retro hardware space are doing a huge disservice to the emu dev community (i.e. Hyperkin and Retro-bit). www.libretro.com/index.php/appeal-to-game-journalists-about-retro-bit-and-about-the-new-retro-emulation-industry-in-general/
CaptainEO420, SNES9x was partially created years ago by one Retroarch/Libretro team member (Daniel De Matteis). So it matters directly for him and that core and the other contributing devs. If Hyperkin or Retro-bit are reselling their work and not sharing their profits that's a blow to the dev's moral who are working long hours out of the goodness of their hearts. Some with families and full time jobs. The same is true for emu authors of other non-commercial emus such as Genesis Plus GX. Think about it? What incentive would you have to create (for free) what someone else will steal? This contention will slow or stop emu development if it's not addressed. www.libretro.com/index.php/category/blog/
It's not about who invented the cores, or that no one is getting paid. Many of these emulator makers keep their work fairly open and distributed with GPL licenses. The problem is, by packaging those cores in their emulator box and selling it, they are in direct violation of those licenses. It also took quite some time before their work was even credited, which is scummy af.
Uhh, they've shown plenty of proof. Did you read the above link at all? RetroArch actually took the time and went through the proper channels to properly license, modify, and use these emulators for their purposes. The same cannot be said for the other companies in question. Again, the big issue is that RetroFreak, Hyperkin, and other companies are using non-commercial, open code for commercial use, which is in direct violation of the license(s) these emulators are distributed under. Also, they continued to sell it even after learning of their mistake.
So you conveniently missed the part where you could view both the source codes from the RetroFreak and their own and see they were exactly the same? It doesn't get more proof than that. But whatever, I can see I'm getting nowhere showing you the cold hard facts. What do you have to back up the CLAIMS you're just haphazardly throwing out here?
This was a nice conclusion to my marathon of Super Nt reviews that began with MJR. I eagerly await the arrival of my October pre-order. I hope it's jailbroken eventually, or at least Game Genie codes can be put on it.
I wouldn't say stupid, just uninformed. Try and Coury have been doing this stuff for ages and are really devoted to it. I've felt similar to you every time I watch one of their videos and I've been here since before the beginning!
I like your profile picture. The Great Mouse Detective, is almost a hidden gem. It's a classic Disney film. I'm glad my Dad bought me the VHS of it, back in the day.
+spidercolt [Try4ce] I totally agree. Super Nt is a far more approachable system and that's a big part of what I like about it. I much prefer this new direction.
IAN 63 1/3 That would be awesome. Genesis is the only thing I don’t have a solution for, I don’t see a point in buying a framemeister or OSSC for one system. Lol
I hope they do a Genesis (with Sega CD and 32X support, but I'll take what I can get), PC-Engine (with CD support), Neo Geo (CD lol), PSOne, Saturn, and maybe Nintendo 64 eventually? But with the HDMI solutions for the N64 its not really that important anymore, at least in my opinion.
This is awesome, I hope the day we can se a new nt mini and super nt versions at $100 or less, That day this thigs will be for me but until then Im really glad you guys make great videos like this about it. That machine looks fucking great omg.
Awesome video guys. Probably the best episode so far. Please do more of these interviews with people like Tim Worthington or retro_console_acessories. Would love to see it.
Finally got my hands on a Black version yesterday from Analogue's re-stock! I've sworn by my Mega SG for years now, and I'm so excited to play my SNES games of the same quality.
This channel is so fucking good. The quality of this videos... Is so absolutely incredible. This is the type of channel that deserves millions of subscribers.
That would be quite the popular endeavor. With a mission to effectively archive by bettering past hardware and be faithful to all retro systems at the same time is a great service and one of the best things to happen to gaming. Is there an award we can nominate these guys for?
I'm really glad to see that they acknowledged the high pinpoint of the NT and did what they needed to greatly reduce the price of the Super NT to make it more affordable. It's about the same price as the AVS (which I opted for instead of the NT Mini) minus the shipping cost and is what got me to pull the trigger after seeing the detailed review from DF. With that being said, I gotta say is the best video on the SNES NT I've seen so far and while the DF video was great for a detailed overview of what the system can do, I really enjoyed seeing more detail on the wizardly that Kevtris has been able to pull off.
All those scaling features do make me happy. Though I'm curious about PAL support now. Based on my own measurements, the NTSC machine has a 7: 6 pixel aspect ratio, while the PAL system has 25: 18 instead, which is quite dramatically different. (once you adjust for the screen being 4: 3, the NTSC ends up with the 8: 7 aspect listed, while the PAL system ends up with the equivalent of a 24: 25 aspect ratio. Multiply the pixel aspect by this screen aspect ratio and you should get 4:3 as the outcome) Is this accounted for if you switch to PAL mode? Not that it truly matters, given all the custom options, but still... Would be nice to know it's accounted for...
+KuraIthys [Try4ce] PAL carts do not display at an aspect any different from NTSC carts, which I assume most people would consider a plus. The art was designed for 240p and not 288p, so PAL squish is not a thing here... unless of course you wanted to dial in a custom aspect that DID squish it, which is totally possible. But the game resolution is not displayed any differently by the Super Nt.
Very great review of the Super Nt. You really ran it through it paces and great job on the comparisons. Nice job getting in-depth. Also nice to have Kevtris on the video to talk about all this.
So I have been telling myself that I really need to save money. And I planned on it too. And then I watch this... I know where my next few paychecks are going... hope the wife won’t be too upset 😅
I bought my Super NT because of this video. Just got it today and I love it! Thank you for the wonderful work you guys do. All of your videos are top notch!
Forty Bounce they can be objective in their world of console mods and framemeisters. In the poor mans world over here the super nt is worth said drool.
Gawd I want one of these bad now. Is there a distributor for the UK? Or will Analogue ship it here? I've seena few people saying they'd love a Mega Drive one of these. It really feels like there isn't a good similar solution for Mega Drive especially when it comes to accuracy of behaving like the original console.
I'd definitely love to see a Mega Drive version. With how much of the original hardware is plagued by vertical lines or audio issues, and of course garbage clone consoles, an FPGA at the best quality possible would be excellent.
Got the Analogue Super Nt today (black color, it was the only color they were still accepting pre-orders for as the other three colors are all sold out when I placed my order last month), cannot wait to try it out! Sure came in fast from Analogue shipping it out last Friday coming in to Canada.
SupermanKalL Lol, have not gotten my tracking # yet even, I pre-order the USA SNES version. The only one out at the time was Famicom version. So lucky u.
I'd pick one up, but I've already got a PAL SNES and a SFC, and it's hard to justify a third SNES device... I mean, if I get my software development tools sorted, and the hardware interfaces, it'd be worth testing. I'm also curious if a firmware variant could add 128 kb VRAM support, since that's technically a feature of the SNES PPU design, but the actual memory chips aren't present in real hardware. It's pointless for old games, but it's a fun feature to mess with when doing homebrew dev, and if it could support a feature like that, it would give me more incentive to get one. All the more if it could support further customisation for some hardware thought experiments I've been having. (not very useful, given lack of games, but again, if it's easily implemented on this system it gives a way to mess with stuff without having to literally resolder a SNES constantly...) Well, anyway, it sounds promising. I'm not fond of hardware that's basically a fancy emulator, but an actual FPGA implementation, if well done sounds like it'd fix a lot...
@@HeNnEsSy_HiCcUpS the snes classic can on play 30 games unless u modded it..this can play all snes games long as u own the carts. FPGA Neo-geo is a really appealing idea.
It’s too bad the demand is so much lower! It would end up being a 600-800$ system for sure.
The cart prices for the system alone would make the neo geo not a good choice to redo. Unless they got a license to remake carts too.
Yeah but.. I mean... If you already have all the MVS carts you want it would be pretty badass. My Neo Geo collection is bigger than my SNES one.
Mike TheGamerGuy that will never happen. Would be way more expensive than the actual system, so what would be the point of it?

Another superior example of fun and educational content on TH-cam
Whats the chances of Analogue releasing a Light NES Nt system with just HDMI at a price point similar to the Super Nt??
Hopefully after the runaway success of the Super NT I'd imagine. I'd buy it for sure.
I believe they told polygon they'd rather do more systems then look back, hinting at the possibility of an FPGA genesis :/
That would be quite the popular endeavor. With a mission to effectively archive by bettering past hardware and be faithful to all retro systems at the same time is a great service and one of the best things to happen to gaming. Is there an award we can nominate these guys for?
BlockABoots ...they won't make one, because it already exists. www.retrorgb.com/nesavs.html
A device like that kinda exists already, its called the RetroUSB AVS.
This video is so well done. I've watched it many times , I understand more each time.
if they make a movie about kevtris, they have to get david cross to play him.
Yes a new video! Can't wait to hear your guys thoughts on this. :D
Hey!! JJ and Jeff in the opening! My favorite TG16 game and favorite game based off of a tv show!
1:44 What's that game in the back?
Edit: Oh, that's Equinox, aka Solstice II.
Wow, excellent video guys! I’m pumped for the Super NT and can’t wait to play my childhood copy of Chrono Trigger and others on this system!
Nt64. One can dream!
Let's see Genesis/Sega CD and Turbografx-16/TGCD first.
I think it'll be a long while before we get to the N64. Maybe Kevtris' kids can do that one...
that intro and end music makes me cry! great videos guys, thanks!
So I have been telling myself that I really need to save money. And I planned on it too. And then I watch this... I know where my next few paychecks are going... hope the wife won’t be too upset 😅
omg that play it loud intro was perfect
I love you guys
I bought my Super NT because of this video. Just got it today and I love it! Thank you for the wonderful work you guys do. All of your videos are top notch!
Thanks for being objective and not just drooling all over the supernt like other "reviewers." And stellar editing as always.
Forty Bounce they can be objective in their world of console mods and framemeisters. In the poor mans world over here the super nt is worth said drool.
Jeff Bays that makes no sense
Awesome video! So excite for my super nt to arrive next week!
Looked at shipping to Australia - $80!
Miles Hayler Blimey. UK shipping would probably be similar. I'll have a check later.
Interesting thing is that : if Kevtris ever attacks the 68000, that means a Sharp X68000 FPGA could also become feasible ^_^ hey one can dream! :P
Yep it's a shame they don't have different shipping options, I had it in the cart ready pre-order until I saw that.
(not very useful, given lack of games, but again, if it's easily implemented on this system it gives a way to mess with stuff without having to literally resolder a SNES constantly...)
Well, anyway, it sounds promising. I'm not fond of hardware that's basically a fancy emulator, but an actual FPGA implementation, if well done sounds like it'd fix a lot...
you guys have the best intro theme. even the videos I dont care for watching (which is rare dont worry) I still watch for that sweet sweet intro
SNES remains the greatest console of all time.
The super nt has blew my mind how good it is.
@@ootwii why is it better then snes classic
@@HeNnEsSy_HiCcUpS the snes classic can on play 30 games unless u modded it..this can play all snes games long as u own the carts. The snes classic cant play dkc 2 ,dkc 3 and other titles that are left off the snes classic..sure u can modded the snes classic but the super nt dont need too be modded..
@@ootwii ya I modded mine, it was really easy now I have almost 100 SNES games...I was asking what the advantages are to having a super nt playing more games isn't one
@@HeNnEsSy_HiCcUpS i seen on TH-cam where some had a classic to magoc with there super nintendo classic...it was neat that they could use carts..u will have check that video out..
Got my Super Nt today after watching a ton of your videos. I am very happy with it.
See Colleco Chameleon, You could have developed a snes fpga core with kevtris if you gave him the chance, but no, you tried to scam us and paid the price. You show them Kevtris.
Buying one of these as soon as possible. My SNES and CRT won't last forever. Love your videos by the way. Never knew that much about picture quality and how to fix it before I started watching you guys.
