Tech Dweeb over here making videos in 2 minutes for things that take me 20 minutes. Everyone but my wife is impressed (just kidding, great video my friend)
I'm bad at remembering these things so what better than a nifty tightly TechDweeb packaged video to bookmark and return to when opening a new Android handheld. That's extra brain space I don't have to utilize, I got this video instead from now on, thanks TechDweeb! ❤
One thing to note about the Rg556 is that it doesn't charge when docked to hdmi output. No matter what dock or dongle you use, it can either charge or do usb/hdmi output, not both at the same time. Which seriously makes the hdmi output rather limited. You're fighting against the battery life every play session
Struggling here with launching any of these. RA just opens nothing when I try any systems. I didn't have any issues with this on deck but suddenly I'm not having success here.
@@xbyte00 I'm leaving it be until an update prevails. I definitely don't mind the wait and it's nice to pay for the developer to play around with this stuff.
If you’re switching from Daijisho to ES, is it just a matter of getting ES, setting up the folder structure and then moving the files over (obviously needs a bit of tweaking)? I have my rom files on my RP3+ internal storage, is it worth getting an SD card and copying the roms etc. to that in case I want to switch back (I know I should really have them on an SD anyway)? Great video!
Yes, get that SD card. You wont regret it. Just choose a decent one. I recommend Samsung Evo or Sandisk Extreme SDXC A2. I just took mine out of the RP3+ to make sure you get the right one.
Cheers, one thing I hadn’t considered was that the RP3+ comes with an old version of retro arch that wasn’t fully compatible with ES-DE, so I had to download the latest version and reset up cores, hockeys etc., but fairly easy to do and looking sweet now!
I know this is months late but I have launchbo on my mini pc and like how for each game in launchbox there is those bezels artwork for games in that 4:3 aspect ratio. Each bezel matches the game you're playing, which to me is better than having black borders. My question is: does emulationstation provides these bezel artworks as well?
Love your review and guides. I recently purchased a RG556 and this helped me alot. I was wondering do you know if it's possible to link ES to the frontend button on the device?
so you have to point each emulator to the bios files individually by launching the emulator into settings right? not like in emudeck just emulation/bios. (can't remember if the front end found the bios before)
Yup it's possible. However it's not ideal. The main issue is that ES-DE takes a while to boot, so if the app goes to sleep while you are in a game and needs to restart, your system hangs while it waits for ES-DE to restart. I prefer to launch ES-DE from a simple launcher (like nova launcher) rather than have it be the frontend for the system.
Would you mind going more in depth over this topic of front ends in a video? I'm interested in making a really nice couch machine but as you mentioned in the video this can be a bit overwhelming. Are there different front ends? Do I need to keep them updated? How do I find updates? Are there any that cut the install process down so I can get to enjoying my games as fast as possible? Sorry for all the questions I'm brand new to this and I would love to learn whatever I can
I had already made my own files and then they made their files and now its a mess. I should've never made my own files and just used theirs. I'm a bit ocd and feel like formatting and starting all over. aaaahhh
This is the only front-end that doesn't work with retroarch for me (standalone emulators work fine) Retroarch is setup correct, but when i select a game in emulationstation it starts retroarch and got stuck on a black screen. After pressing some buttons a screen shows up that it crashes and goes back to emulationstation. This is the only frontend that does this. What am i doing wrong. I'm using it on my RG556 with retroarch plus from the play store
Unfortunately I can't get it to install on the original retroid pocket 2. Been trying to get it set up for my kids. Any ideas on kid friendly alternatives that might work with the rp2?

I have rg556 I just downloaded it ,im trying to figure out how to use the sd card for my roms i use the internal space and sd for my roms but it only had me use 1 folder for roms can anyone help
Emulation-Station is a great piece of software but my experience with it on PC is that screenscraper is always very slow for me. At least compared to how fast launchbox or Daijisho scrape. Might be an issue on my end or being far from the server though.
Is there a way to use the launcher like an app? I ask because I want to use my phone like a phone for 90% of the day, and then later in the evening hook up my telescopic controller, select the "emulation station" app, and then use that UI to select games.
I do not know how to use a PC and i have the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro i only know how to download games from the Playstore and theres not many I don’t know how to use emulators i wish i could just send it to someone to max this machine out has anyone got any suggestions plz
Try Lemuroid. It's a very simple app to emulate older consoles, but I don't know if it will recognize RP4P's physical buttons. You could map them though.
RetroArch IS a frontend, and it's free, and it usually has more options and functions than Emulation Station. ES looks nice but is just a bloated GUI running over top of RetroArcdh. It uses more system resources than just running RetroArch. So ES makes launching the software slower and game performance can also suffer, especially on weak hardware.
But sorry for a question that no one asks: I also have the Anbernic RG556 and there is already my SD with 512GB of roms, ok? To install emulation station, why create another roms folder with a copy of the games I already have? I mean, since I already have the roms on the sd, I can't direct, make ES go and "pick up" the games from the rom folders that I already have, there must be a way to avoid having to create another folder for ES, since there ' s already a pre-existing one? I can't create another folder with another 512 GB of roms (which are already there), it's nonsense, a waste of resources. Thank you for your help and congratulations on the service you provide us.

any chance of a tutorial on how to setup on cloud storage for the saves between the steam deck and android like how steam games have?

When PSP, PS, PS2 be Retro Game?
Can you show a comparison video of ES, daishio and launchbox
