Good to know we wouldn’t have gone wrong with either car. Well, in the end we chose the ID.3 for two reasons: the lease was way cheaper, and according to Swiss vloggers, the ID.3 handles steeply rising roads covered in snow much better than any FWD car could.

Yes, you don't have the latest software. I was aware of this before I took delivery and asked my dealer to ensure it was upgraded prior to me collecting the car. I. Fact I requested this 3 times.
Come collection day, guess what.... It hadn't been updated, the dealer was adamant that it WAS the up to date software. Needless to say I was extremely annoyed.
I reluctantly took the car home and updated the software myself.
Zero effort by the dealer, which resulted in him receiving bad feedback from me and will not secure any more of my custom in the future.

Thank you for doing this review I am a new sub and have been looking to get a new EV and your channel has been very informative on the ID3
In London I have seen a lot of Niro's and not that many ID3's
I wanted to see a comparison between these 2 as I think for my needs these are the best of the bunch.
Things I like about the ID3: Rear Wheel Drive, Design, Range (58 kWh), Handling and Turning circle. Things not so good: software, no heat pump as standard (£1020 optional extra).
Things I like about the Niro: Range, Heat Pump as standard. Things I don't like: Front Wheel Drive, Design (and the 2023 is even more off putting!) Too many buttons, messy layout, don't know about handling or turning circle but am not even going to test drive as I don't like the uninspiring style.
I did consider the ID4 and the Ionic 5 but they are too big for only 5 people, better utility of space is a van based people carrier with much better driver and passenger comfort, like the Citroen e-Spacetourer but I didn't consider this as we only get the 40 kWh version in the UK and it has a range of 140 miles on a good day. My old Nissan eNV200 did that 4 years ago and it was a pain so not going there again.
I guess I will have to wait until the ID Buzz becomes more affordable in a few years time, like 2025?
Thank you and keep up the good work.

Just my 2c on why I went with the niro while considering both:
    - Similar price in my case when equipped similarly.
    - Roofbars! It's stupid but you can't put anything on the roof of the id3 (legally). I don't know how VW could decide against it. This was a no-go for me.
    - My 4x daily commute is 15km and I live in the mointains. The winter consumption with the id3 would be really bad.
    What I retrofitted:
    - 1kw inverter for camping.
    - 4x speakers
    - Frunk
    - Lowered the trunk

I have the 2019 🇨🇦 Canadian SX Touring model. UVO remote access is a bit flakey and slow. Faster charging would be nice but not needed for me as I can charge at home (7.4 kW) and don't do long trips. Strangely my snow tires seem quieter at higher speeds. The highway driving speeds in my area tend to be around 120 kph ( legal speed is 100). I certainly don't get Tesla efficiency, 22 kWh per 100 km would be an average at those speeds. The 64 kWh battery was the main reason to go electric as the range was finally good enough. Hard to justify changing to the EV6 or Ioniq5 for rear wheel drive or AWD, plus better charge curve, and vehicle to external power. (we'd only get 120 volt out and lower power output) VW's Id4 (Id3 not good enough?💪) and Ford Mach-E are starting to appear in Canada. Shiny new things💵💸. At least the Kia's SK battery is still safe compared to the early GM Bolts and Kona and which are under safety recalls or replacement . There have been some Niro electric motor and powertrain replacements reported in the Facebook group. Thank you❤️. I appreciate the time you take for reviewing and testing.

I have Kia Niro EV 2019 (as it's called in "the states"). The driver seat is too hard/firm, not comfortable , compared to my old Nissan LEAF. I like its GOM, doesnt fluctuate as much as my old LEAF and is fairly accurate. I agree the trip meter is stupid, doesnt let you reset the current trip, need to wait 4 hours for the car to be off, and it resets itself. I was told you can reset the Total Trip meter (the higher-level trip meter) which then would reset your current trip, but that wipes away the this Total Trip meter statistics. And it's fairly noisy with road and wind noise above 50km/h... But overall, still like it with its impressive range... one time, on a full charge it would show about 480 km range.

    • @rolandrohde

It's strange that the opinions on noise differ so strongly. Bjorn measured the noise of the e Niro against the ID.3 and the values were pretty much identical...maybe it is the frequency or the type of noise that is different...

@@BatteryLife You are the only reviewer with this efficiency result, the id.3 is less efficient especially in winter, less powerful (what is the 0-100kph acceleration?), less well equipped and poorer warranty than the E Niro. In summer conditions, even in the UK, owners achieve 300+ miles (480km) range. You have wrong settings for SCC and you failed to check the driver’s display for sat nav screen - its there! Why are you giving such a negative review I wonder? The E Niro is a 4 year old design on compromised petrol/hybrid conversion NOT a pure EV like the id.3. Of course it is outdated. But why is the id.3 (and the Id.4) so far behind all the statistics of the previous generation E Niro? VAG engineers have been asleep at their desks. A biased, poorly researched and irrelevant comparison. The Hyundai Ionia 5 and Kia EV6 are the relevant Korean car comparisons - their first pure EVs. You also failed to research the use of buttons to switch main display to EV screen a much safer option for a driver. If you are going to review a car, do your research first. If you want to see how to do an objective car review see Bjorn Nyland. And why would you switch off the VESS which will warn pedestrians that you are approaching? I do not understand your criticism of the trip meter when there is an option to reset this? Your review has informed me that you do not make useful reviews.

I compare id.3 with Eniro because i had both cars here. Since the Id.3 is mine.

It is called Opinion. That is just my personal one.
I haven't driven another EV that fits my needs for a car more than my Id.3
But it is certainly not perfect, by far.

But I get if people want the latest and greatest, but that of course comes with a chance it wont be perfect, and I personally will always take something that works 100 percent of the time over things that are flimpsy. ID3 has a heat pump as an additional extra. ID3 is just plastic inside and the climate control is disaster. Kia regeneration mode is much better and Kia has 7 years warranty which is extremely important. VW is far behind Kia EV technology and with the new Kia EV6 with 800v charging technology 18 minutes charge 577 hp awd and 3.5sec 0 to 100km will be one of the best EV choices.
