    www.electrifying.com/kia/enir...
    It's been around since 2018 and was one of the first electric small SUVs on sale. In fact, it was one of the first in the new wave of electric cars that gave the Nissan Leaf a hard time, and even in 2021 the e-Niro makes a lot of sense.
    It's surprisingly spacious inside, it's well-made, comes with a seven-year warranty and is very efficient. It's been updated since 2019 so is it still a good choice? Tom Ford finds out.

    I bought mine in January 2020...mine was an informed decision. I had been researching for the 'right' EV for quite a number of years. My main concerns were a long enough range, a large enough boot storage in a compact format , and a look that is somewhat conservative and not too outrageous. I am extremely happy on all fronts. I also carry around several 6 foot tall boys to and from training sessions and they all remark how comfortable the back seat is. Brilliant car!!!

      @@thebrilliantbrittany yes, I still totally love it for all the reasons I described. Recently I brought it for its first and second service (as due to the pandemic I had skipped year 1)and it was super cheap. Also, I had the chance to drive a courtesy brand new PHEV Ceed. I'm glad I did, because I got to compare the 2 TECHNOLOGIES (I'm looking for a new car for the husband) ... Full electric is so much better to drive. The acceleration is a million times more powerful and the fun of regenerative breaking does not exist on PHEV. The drive on PHEV was heavy, unresponsive and sloooow! While I was at the dealer 's I also took a look at the new EV6. It doesn't really seem to provide anything new and amazing in terms of technology and range. It's just bigger and therefore more expensive. The ENiro is still the best in my book.

    I’ve the 4+ bought last December so I did get the £3500 government grant. I just done a fairly long trip with a mix of A roads & Motorway driving at or around 70mph. When I left home with a 100% battery the GOM stated range was 312 miles did 180 mile and the GOM said I’d 130 miles left on the GOM. That’s in my view pretty darn accurate as I was averaging 4.8 miles per kw. For me it’s got to be one of the best EVs on the road, not a head turner but a solid reliable, so far! Car.

    I have a 2022 KIA E-Niro Ihave had it for about 2 months. I love it. I always use it in the economy mode. I don't have to prove anything when I drive so the economy mode is fine. I have been averaging about 270 miles per charge. I love all of the features in the car and the ride is very comfortable and handles well. very roomy inside. The best thing is that I have solar power at my home so It don't cost me a single penny to charge it. all of my neighbors love my car and a few of them are considering to buy one. I have been retired for three years so this fits me fine. even my car insurance was cheaper on this car because of all of the safety features and they know that around every 250 miles or so that you have to stop take a break while you charge the car.the only bad thing is that you don't get a jack or a spare tire. I checked with the service department at the dealership and their computer don't show one on the computer yet.I love that there is not much service needed on the car. and the car will send me an alert is there is any problem or when service is needed so I won't forget to bring it in for service. GREAT CAR LOVE IT

    I’ve had the 4+ for 6 months. 280 miles is easily achievable (but not done a lot of cold weather driving yet, please note).
    It’s a great car (I’ve had two Leafs previously).
    But I’d also add, it does have one pedal driving. Not only be using the left paddle but also configuring what level of regeneration you want in each of the three driving modes. When configured (via simple menu choices) the chosen regen level is then the default for that driving mode.

    A fair review of a car I have owned since March 2019. Ours was in the first batch to arrive in France and after 47,000 km it has been a joy. Just got back from a 4 day trip to the Volcanoes national park in the Auvergne. Started at 100% charge this morning showing a range of 524 km...Mmm, unlikely you would think..but we covered 318 km getting home and showed 207 remaining and 46% SOC. It was autoroute most of the way at 30c, so A/C was working hard. It turned out to be yet another demonstration that in summertime this car has a real world range of 300 miles driven on autoroutes...OK, I don’t thrash it, tending to stick to between 100-115 km/h but then again I’m of a certain age, enough said. Where I would disagree slightly with the review is that ‘one pedal’ driving is possible using the auto regeneration function and adjusting from there. In the mountains this week I did some serious descents without using the brake pedal at all and creeping around in cities use the same technique. Having retired now this is a long termer for us and so far, so good.

I cancelled my order, and put down a deposit on a Kis E-Niro. Such a nice car to drive, and so far everything has worked. DC charging speed no higher that 77Kw/hr is an issue, but since 90% of my driving is using my home charger, it is not that important.

    The model variants differ from region to region, here in New Zealand the smaller battery option is not available and there are 3 trim levels. The mid range comes with the larger touch screen but without the heated seats, but the most important part is that this does bring it in at below the cap for the clean car rebate.
    Both Kia and Hyundai can have after-market heating fitted to the seats for $1500, which will provide the comfort while not increasing the vehicle purchase cost to above the cap.
    What I am excited about when the e-Niro arrives and we trade the Ioniq ev will be the additional range, not that we will not be stopping for refreshments, just the peace of mind that we don't need to restrict speed or worry that a charger is occupied or not functioning, we will have the range to travel on to the next one.
    I have enjoyed the Ioniq and feel the Niro will be a equally good purchase.
    Choosing any colour other than white or grey in NZ can be problematic, the dealers only get whatever is put on the ship, and even then we are experiencing an 8 to 10 week wait for delivery.

    • @Pete856
      @Pete856 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you're not tempted to get the new Ioniq 5 when it comes out? The base model is going to be $79,900 so that buyers can get the rebate....although the base model has the smaller battery, it still has far more range than the original Ioniq and it's larger too.

    • @iallso1
      @iallso1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Pete856 I was tempted. The issues I had were firstly that the dealer could not guarantee the arrival of Ioniq 5 before the end of the year, combined with the wording of the terms of the rebate, only being confirmed for vehicles registered before December 31st, (I'm sure it will be continued but...). Additionally my partner has become attached to all the luxuries of the elite Ioniq that we have, see wasn't willing to get a basic model and although the range is 380km we liked the 450 offered by the niro, and risk not getting the rebate.
      After much deliberation it came down to the Kona and the e-niro, and the Kia won out after the test drive. We will get the heated seats fitted next April before the weather turns, and my partner will have to put some gloves on if the hands get cold.

      @@iallso1 Ok, yeah I wasn't sure when the Ioniq 5 was arriving out here, the website says is it's arriving soon and to register your interest. Anyway, I own a hybrid version of the Niro, had it almost 3 years. It's a nice comfortable car to drive with plenty of room etc. But I would love to get a full EV one day, and the new Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 look like good cars, so would be on my list. I prefer them to something like the Tesla model 3.

      @@Pete856 in terms of looks I do prefer the EV6 to the Ioniq 5, but the Kia dealership have no idea when that will be arriving in NZ, they haven't been given any spec details or prices, or hadn't in mid August. You have to suspect that with a 77kw battery and over 500km of range it will be over the $80k cap for the grant even in its basic form.

    Excellent video Tom, dealing with many practicalities of ownership that many drivers are interested in. However, it would also be beneficial to know more about what's involved when the car requires servicing & related costs, plus tyre life too. Most EV's I understand to be far heavier than a conventional ICE car so even driving solo, tyre wear must surely be greater and when factoring in a full payload of passengers plus, the tyres must surely degrade more quickly. Are EV's fitted with tyres constructed of a tougher compound, enabling similar wear to an ICE vehicle? Just asking . . .

    I have the Kia eniro 3, and I’m a taxi driver in Essex, doing a lot of airport runs to Stansted. I regularly get 270-285miles out of a full charge. However I’ve only had in since start of June & the lack of heat exchanger really does make a difference in the cooler mornings, often taking 30-50 miles off the range. Not sure what the affect will be in the winter months when it’ll be cold all day. But would recommend it to anyone. If I can use it as a taxi daily (regularly doing 200+miles per shift) then 90% of users will easily be able to cover the miles per day they;; require

      Try using the preconditioning feature to heat up (or cool) the battery cabin etc to a preset temperature without using the car's battery. So the car is already nice and warm or cool by the time you're ready to go.. or say in case forgotten to setup the preconditioning feature, try using heated seat & steering instd say to preserve the battery/ mileage✌😊

    Great review! e-Niro has several weaknesses(for me, seeking family EV): 1. it can't pull the cart(Enyaq, ID4, Tesla 3/Y can) 2. The car's trunk is small for familly traveling 3. Charging is slower(75kw vs 120kw of ID4). Be carefull 7 years of varanty is not valid for all pieces of car and you have to strictly keep service plan!

      I’ve say thats the same with any car, having to keep to the service plan and yes consumables aren’t covered in the seven year warranty. However the other day my brothers 6 years and 11 month old Kia Sportage power steering failed, it was replace in warranty no questions asked and not at the dealer he bought from so not a bad service. However his battery “lead acid” failed and that he paid for. As for charging speeds most charge point are 50 kw and frankly most charging is done at home so I can live with waiting an extra 10 mins

I am very satisfied with the car, only gripes are the bloody charging port freezing shut every day due to a stupid design, an electric boot with foot sensor and slow charging speed compared with most competitors. A sturdy, dependable but bland car that I actually chose instead of the Tesla Model 3 SR.

    in-depth review? I think we have different meaning for "in-depth". Other channels that review electric cars usually show the charging graph in terms of kW/SOC (from 5% to 95% for example) and miles charged at certain points in time (so in 20 minutes it has charged an average of 100 miles, in 30 minutes 140 miles, etc.). Other thing that a "in-depth" review should do is to properly test the consumption/range of the car in the real world, at 50 mph and 70 mph for example. There are other things to consider and it's how much the heating consumes or if the battery charges slower if it has been hammered in a long trip, etc, etc.
