      Hello Friend, Thank for commenting and encouragement. I'm glad you found value in this video for your viewing time. This alignment issue can be solved this way in CURA but I found the root cause is that from the factory the limit switches are improperly placed. If you're printing right of center that means the x-limit switch needs to move left by the same amount that it's off center. Also if your prints are towards the front of center that means the y-limit switch needs to move back by that same amount. Linked is the video I made about it.

    Thank you so much for this short but very informative video! I was having issues with printing models that were close to the limits of my print bed. but the right side kept getting cut off. I thought it was a bad STL file, or my slicer program causing the problems. After several failed prints I started googling, and came across this video. I followed your method, and found out that my X-axis was off by 8mm and Y-axis was off by 6.5mm. put those offsets in, and now i am dead center! now my prints aren't cut off on one side. thanks again! happy printing

    Thank you. I've had my Ender 3 for five years and just noticed yesterday that it was off center. I've never printed anything large enough to fill the build plate until now and it was a disaster. So again thank you.
    I had a feeling something was off a few days ago, because I noticed that my BL touch was checking right on the front edge of my print bed and a couple inches from the edge in the back. My bl touch was landing on my binder clips on the front throwing off my bed leveling. And it was never an issue until now, because I never printed anything big enough for it to be a problem.

    • @vbared
      @vbared  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi friend, thank you for commenting. I'm glad you found value in this video for your viewing time. Yeah, I hear you, it was very frustrating when I ran into it for the first time. What's more interesting is that the root cause of the off-center issue is from mechanical misalignment. Using CURA allows the alignment problem to be corrected via software.
      I use 4 Ender 3 V2 in my business and each one required different CURA values to get the prints centered so I realized the cause must be mechanical. I found that when my printer X&Y coordinates were set to 0,0 the nozzle opening wasn't half on and half off the left front corner of my build plate. The last part of the puzzle was to maximize the reach of the nozzle so when I set the X&Y values to the maximum size of the build plate the print head could get there without hitting anything. My actual build plate for my Ender 3 V2 is 235mmx235mm but the CURA profile default is 220X220 so assuming the 0,0 home position is the left front corner that means the center is 110 but in reality it should be 117.5 which is the cause of the issue.

    • @bkpickell
      @bkpickell หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vbaredwell, now that it's centered I have a whole new issue. I just changed filaments. I went from hatchbox to polymaker. The hatchbox printed beautifully. The polymaker won't stick to the bed unless I'm pushing the filament through with my fingers. I should've known better than to switch brands.

    • @vbared
      @vbared  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bkpickell What type of build surface are you using?

    • @bkpickell
      @bkpickell หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vbared the creality glass bed. Never had an issue with it until I switched to polylite pla pro. I'm sure I have to tweak my cura settings. I've been playing with temps. I've already bumped it up to 210. That hasn't helped, I may try 215 or slow down print speed. Maybe the issue is extrusion speed. I just really hate when I switch brands and go through half a roll of filament just to get a successful print. I went through this with lightweight pla last year. Never did get it to print right after going through the whole roll.

    • @vbared
      @vbared  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bkpickell I used to have similar issues prior to switching out all the glass and magnetic build plates in my print farm for this Garolite that weighs just 7.1 ounces.
      The only requirement is that you need to use a bed probe to build a mesh of it. The Garolite sheets is 1/16 of and inch thick so it will conform to the aluminum plate beneath it.
      You'll never need any type of adhesion promoters, tape or anything else, throw away the scraper too.
      Run the bed temp at 80c and PLA, PLA+, PETG, NYLON, and ASA will stick to it like crazy. When the bed cools you'll hear the parts crack as the Garolite releases them. Another side benefit is that you can run your Z-offset much higher (about .23mm) which eliminates stringing due to the nozzle no longer being low enough to collect filament along the edges as the print progresses.

    Thanks so much man I had no idea why my prints where so far off center. And when I tried printing a large print it cut off a huge chunk on the right. Now it’s all fixed!

    • @vbared
      @vbared  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello 55kp, Thank you for commenting. I'm glad you found value in this video for your viewing time. Using CURA to address the issue is an easy solution. Since making this video I've found that the root cause of most of the print alignment issues is due to the x and y limit switches not being in the proper location. The way to test if this is the case for you is after homing your printer send the print head over the X=0 position and then bring the Z down to about 2mm to see if the nozzle tip is half on and half off the print bed. What you'll find is that your nozzle will be off of this point. The same test can be done with the Y-axis. To fix the problems the limit switches need to be moved in the direction needed to gain the proper alignment. In most cases, they will be off by a few millimeters. I made a video about this problem that also affects the bed mesh.
      th-cam.com/video/l-mrw8YvLBU/w-d-xo.html
      I still scratch my head to this day wondering if many of the companies making 3D printers actually have any real-world 3D printing experience.

    I went a little more low-tech to check mine. I created a 220 x 220 square in TinkerCAD and left just a 3mm border by putting a 214x214 hole in the middle. Exported and sliced in Cura 5.2.1. Printed without a skirt and measured all 4 sides after printing compared to the edge of the bed when done. All 4 measurements were within 1mm (perfect would be 7.5mm on all 4 sides) so close enough for me. This also allowed me to check for any bed skew by measuring at the corners of each side of the square.

    Hi Victor, for my E5 Pro this solution of using the extruder offsets in Cura has allowed me to stop using the Cura X and Y print placement offsets, which sometimes I would forget.
    I certainly wish that somewhere somehow a standard for what is front and what is rear was corrected as I sit at the front of my printer as does the display panel, not the rear and as you know my E5 Pro modifications have reversed the bed 180 degrees which makes Cura's layout reversed by 180 degrees. Trying to explain this at times is more that a brain tease.
    I to agree that there is something in the mechanical design and setup of the X and Y axis and the home switch position that is most likely causing the centering issue. But when looking at all of the settings for the bed size in the firmware, the mesh setup, the mesh insert values and the Unified Bed Leveling calibration values and the mechanics of the printer build, I think that this is a simpler way to center the print.
    Don't forget to test all the e-steps for X, Y, Z & E and tweak where needed as this can cause nozzle location issues as well.
    Thanks again Victor for the " = " tool function in OnShape. I love adding new ones to my work.

      Hi Doug, I'm sure there is a way to fix this via firmware. We just need to learn more about it or compare the configuration h file of the Ender 5 Pro to the one for the Ender 3 V2 to find the differences. Thank you for the tip about the checking the e-steps.

    The Professional Firmware allows you to edit the XY MIN/MAX Position and also the bed size.

      Hello Miguel, Thank you for commenting and suggestion about the Professional Firmware. Are you the same Miguel that developed it? Like you I looked at the firmware first but this issue in the video is introduced by CURA. I can divide my bed width and depth by 2, enter those values into X&Y using the printer control dial and my print nozzle moves to the bullseye at the center of the print bed. This indicates to me that the issue isn't related to the printer. The default Ender 3 printer profile values in CURA are off. So dispite the model showing in the slicer that it's in the center CURA adjusts the print position and creates the G-Code.
      I racked my brain on this for months and found another TH-camr that explained how he fixed it. I felt the solution was valuable enough since I was unable to find the answer and made my own video to share.
      Best of luck with your mods!

    I believe the problem are the default Cura settings put the bed at 235x235 and it should be 220x220. It caused mine to over shoot center approximately 8mm up and right of center which makes sense if it measures 235 from bottom left corner in each direction.

    • @vbared

      Hello MadSQUABBL3Z, Thank you for commenting and info. One new thing I found out after making this video, is that the X and Y limit switches aren't in the right locations from the manufacturer. The nozzle tip should be half on and half off the build plate when x is at 0. Same thing with Y at 0. If you tell the printer to move to the center of the bed but the limit switches are each off by several mms, that's the reason why it will off center. So I designed parts that allow adjustments of the X and Y limit switches so you can actually get the nozzle to the correct positions.

    Hi Victor, Great video. I was wondering why we can't solve this problem by adjusting the printhead settings? I believe the "center" is calculated by Cura using the printhead settings but I'm not sure. Have you tried this?

    • @vbared
      @vbared  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Dean, Thank you for commenting and kindness. What solved it for me was to add the correct values into the Extruder 1 tab. Another thing that should also solve it but I haven't tried it to uncheck the Apply Extruder offsets to G-Code in the Printer tab. The Printhead Settings will determine how big and in what position the Printhead assembly is so when doing sequence printing one at a time you'll see a gray box around each model so the head won't hit your previous print.
      Best of luck with your mods!

I'm afraid the only solution I found to get the prints centered is using the method described in the video. You're only going to need a a pencil, a ruler and a few test prints to sort it out.

    If i used klipper can i fix it from config with out fixing from cura?and how

    • @vbared
      @vbared  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello friend, The alignment issue is a result from a printer not being mechanically tuned. What I mean by that is when you tell your printer to move to X 0 and Y 0 the nozzle tip should be half on and half off the print surface. On an Ender 3 V2 that means left-front corner. If your machine when sent to those positions is off by a few millimeters in each direction the prints will not be centered. I'm sure there is a way to correct this in Klipper but the root cause is mechanical misalignment and is the method I use to fix the problem.

  • @perkele1989

    The proposed solution is at around 11:30, and its not really a solution but a workaround. The printer needs to be recalibrated in its firmware. I got the same issue when I upgraded my firmware and did some hardware modifications to the gantry. Still haven't found where you _actually_ solve this.

    • @vbared
      @vbared  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello PerkeleTV, Thank you commenting. A workaround is the proper terminology to use for this. I have an Ender 3 V2 running a E3D V6 hotend and had to move the X & Y limit switches to re-center the nozzle to the middle of the bed. Again another workaround but it solved the problems for me and something to try if you haven't done it already.

    • @vbared
      @vbared  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Snaj, Thank you for your kind comment. I make sure that my printer can center mechanically first. To check this simply set the mid point of of the x & y axises for me it's 117.5 x 117.5 , then take measurements to determine if the print nozzle is at they center point. If it's not then adjust the positions of the X & Y limit switches by the same number of mm that the nozzle was off by. For example: let's say when you move the x axis to 117.5 it's actually 115mm from the left edge of the heated bed. You would need to move the x-limit switch to the right by 2.5mm. Do the same for the y-limit switch. Once you can make it center mechanically using the controls then try the bullseye test print and make any final software adjustments needed using CURA.
      Let me know if this helps you solve the problem.

      @@vbared Thanks for the comment, I was able to adjust Y axis by having the switch move a bit forward. My main issue is with the X axis since it seems like it is not possible to move it because the way it is mounted. Cura adjustment doesn't seem to effect the printer since I entered like 1cm and it printed in exact same location. I am not sure it is because it has Marlin 2.0 or something else.

      I created these parts to give some level of adjustment to the x-limit switch. It should allow you to get it mechanically centered so you can fine tune the CURA software side.

    • @vbared
      @vbared  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello Mickmarriott9453, Thank you for commenting. Yes, that's an option for sure. What I've learned since making this video is the problem stems from the end switches not being in the correct position. To fix this issue I designed a few parts to make the limit switches adjustable so that when X is at 0 the nozzle tip opening is half on and half off the bed. I then do the same thing with Y=0. This solves all the alignment issues with CURA and bed mesh creation.
