Summary:
Q1: Do you need protein supplements?
And: You need protein supplements if you are not able to meet your daily requirements ( these daily requirements may vary upon your activity level ranging from 0.8g/kg body weight for sedantry person to 2.2g/kg body weight for body builders)
Q2: Does protein supplement affect your kidneys
Ans: They may get damaged if you are taking excess protein (for more than 3-4 months) than your daily requirements. Also, you can get your routine KFT done and look for urea and creatinine levels in it.
Q3: Best time to take protein
Ans: Post workout (also divide it in 20grams of bolus three times post workout at intervals of 1.5 hrs)
Q4: can protein powder replace whole foods?
Ans: No, if you are dietary disciplined and track what you are eating and how much protein is in your food and can meet your daily requirements, you can achieve your protein goal with your food. Also protein powders are not whole food as they contain less fibres which is not good for your gut health. So use them to supplement your food and not to replace it.
Q5: Cheap vs expensive proteins
Ans: Proteins are expensive and adding flavour make them further expensive and adds chemical to your protein. It's better to take raw protein and add banana/chiku/coconut water and drink it. That way it'll be naturally flavoured and you will get added benefits of your additives.

Dr Ryan, This question is specific to my teenage 17yr old son...
1. Is it ok to take protein if you don't exercise even one bit and is super sedentary owing to continuous studies ?
2. Also how safe is it to give protein powders to this age group ?
3. Does taking protein cause elevation of CPK (Creatine phosphokinase) levels in blood ?

Doesn't matter if he's studying or playing video games.... he should NOT be living a sedentary lifestyle no matter the reason. This is just copium from your side and his.
If he's getting about 50-60 grams of protein daily from diet then there's no need for protein supplement as he's mostly sedentary. What he needs to do at this age is go out and play instead of studying 24*7

I was looking at which protein powder to buy and then came across this video. Fabulous content genuinely delivered. I'm very happy to see this . I would definitely consult a nutritionist rather than listen to gym instructor or some youtube video. Though I would still appreciate it if you could do a video on what to look for while buying a protein powder.

Ryan what about the additional things we don’t need which we are getting in food? What about the pesticides and chemicals we are gonna have once we increase our diet? And the most important part, in today’s hectic schedule how are u going to cook all these stuff? What diet u r prescribing may be suitable for your high end clients, but for middle class health enthusiasts, it’s quite difficult to follow such a strict schedule every day.
While I go with what u said about other whey protein, but u must really go with Nutrilite cz they are the only company which I know to have harvest , process and manufacture their own supplements. They have control from seed to supplement with least contamination and best quality. I have been using All Plant Protein past 15 years and with god’s grace I have Been in a great health. I can tell 2g/kg is way higher for consumption, if u are taking 2 scoops per day no need to worry at all, amount of food need to make it excess protein is too large .

My questions is, if a person is prone to male pattern baldness, does creatine accelerate the hair loss as there are studies that say creatine does increase DHT
There is only one study done on creatine which shows creatine to cause hair loss , 15900 study shows that it doesn't , also the study shows the dht increase was serum dht and not local dht , and for hair loss local dht is responsible , also dht is increased when we go to gym would you stop doing excersice ? so yeah its just myth

6:30 this is old science. Muscle gain ya fat loss ke liye pure din ka protein intake matter karta hai.
Being vegetarian whey protein helps to complete my daily protein goal of 160gms at 80kg bw because cant take soya (becz of estrogen) no non-veg , so protein whey becomes necessary for me
. Even then its very difficult to hit the protein goal especially if u cutting 😢
