      FYI. Elijah Muhammad from Nation of Islam and the NOI are the founders of intermittent fasting. The NOI has been practicing, and recomending intermittent fasting since the 1930s. Elijah Muhammad published an entire book about intermittent fasting in 1967 called "Eat To Live". NOI members to this day eat 1 meal per day or 1 meal every other day.

      I started fasting in 2016. Dr said she wishes all patients had labs that look like mine. I’m 55 and I’m just as fit and in shape as I was in my 20s. Menopause did not cause weight gain. Went on 14 trip to Europe including a cruise. Ate like a queen. Did NOT gain 1 lb! Metabolism is great!

    I am a retired physician with a very difficult autoimmune disease. My immune system is attacking nerve cells through out the body(thankfully not the central nervous system ). Thanks to Dr. Fung and other experts I started fasting 12 hours a day. Also, very importantly, no eating for 3 hours before bedtime. Then I extended the fast by 30 minutes per week…NOT difficult.
    Now I fast 14 to 16 hours a day which is not difficult at all.
    I have lost 25 pounds and my disease is stable, not progressing, so thank you, Dr. Fung!

      I do about 16 hours of intermittent fasting myself for better keeping my weight after menopause (BMI 22,5, never been overweight).
      It is working but a bigger game changer was avoiding industrial sugar (besides an occasional piece of cake on the weekends😊). Since then I have much less pain in my joints and muscles (no diagnoses).

    Fasting does work. I lost 130lbs fasting 20years ago. Fast forward (marriage and kids), I gained it all back plus some. So a year ago I started fasting 24 to 48 hours, typically I eat one meal 3-4 times a week. I’ve lost over 100lbs and I feel amazing. I’m now smaller than I was when I met my husband (and he’s back to his original size as well). We both have never been happier. Fasting cleanses your body and soul. Good luck everyone.

      @ once I learned how capable and resilient the human body is based on how our ancestors were able to survive long periods of time without food that was enough motivation to go a day or two without food on occasion. The human body is very similar to a bear. We can survive off our fat stores just like them. Our minds play tricks on us making us believe we are weak but in reality we were built to survive the most extreme conditions.

      I am on another re-start plan to lengthen my fasting time and shorten my feeding time. IF has helped me drop weight and feel amazing in the past but I ruined it and went back to some bad habits. That started with just the tiniest taste of sugar. I'm on day 2 of no sugar and at least 18 hours of fasting. ❤ I want this back! More energy, less brain fog and inflammation, reduced depression and getting back into my regular clothes again!❤

    My husband does IF and OMAD. It has been an absolute miracle what it has done to his body and skin. My husband is retired military and had horrible chemical burns on his arms and body as well as a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
    All of his burns and gunshot wound are completely healed. He literally has zero scars left. This has been from almost 10 yrs of doing IF and OMAD.
    He started this journey because he was getting the munchies at night from taking ambien to help him sleep.
    He had me make sure to not let him eat at night and he was always so busy at work that he ended up only eating OMAD.He lost the weight and his skin started to heal.

      @@nickijaycox7773OMAD can be tricky bc you still need to cram 1200+ cals into a single meal and your goal is to not spike your insulin the rest of the day with drinks.
      The easiest way to do OMAD is to try it once a week. Allow yourself time to research healthy/calorie sufficient OMAD meals, then do it twice a week.
      There’s no one meal plant that fits all nutrition/weight goals and you may not even need to do OMAD to reach your goals. 2 meals a day in a 6 hour (18 fasting hours) window is extremely powerful if you’re not at that level yet. Best of luck!!

    • @RikluzYT
      @RikluzYT 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      @@nickijaycox7773When you fast long enough and start using ketones for fuel, the body will convert stored fat into the energy you need. As long as you aren’t underweight the body will compensate for the difference between calorie intake and what your body needs. If you avoid carbs then you go back to using ketones faster and you will have stable energy all day.

      How do you know it's the IF causing the weight loss and not the drastic change in food quality? Are you eating the same number of calories between those two meals as you were prior to starting this? If not, how can the weight loss be attributed to IF and not to calorie deficit and less refined sugars?
      Plenty of bodybuilders will tell you they lose weight with a calorie deficit and healthier calories.
      Congratulations to you,. That's awesome. I'm just trying to figure out how I can lose 30 pounds with being such a picky eater. I'm hesitant to try IF because I'm super active and have a history of blood sugar drops causing dizziness and fatigue even though I'm not diabetic; been tested numerous times.

      @@ThaStonedGardner well I haven’t changed what I eat, I was already eating a healthy diet… but I did cut out the constant grazing… and cut out beer, pasta and bread… much of what I’ve lost so far could be water weight, but so what… eventually I’ll start burning fat, and that’s where the IF comes in… you should start slow, adjust your six hour window to accommodate your lifestyle… and after two or three days it gets much easier, just like anything… I didn’t realize I was opening the fridge and staring in, for no reason, IF helps me discipline my eating habits… I eat my first meal when I’m hungry and the other one six hours later… I let my window float , not exactly the same every day, depends on what I’m doing on any particular day… but since i was always grazing, I was never burning fat, or water…and yes, I’m probably in a calorie deficit, but IF helped me get there… if my stomach growled at 3 am… I would make a sandwich 🥪… I don’t do that anymore 🤣 so IF helps in many ways.

    What a fabulous doctor. Reversing type II without medicines. Losing weight without drugs or devices. He taught us to let our bodies look after themselves, by not stuffing our faces all day long. I am doing 24-hour fasts. I enjoy it. After three days even the hunger pangs stopped. Life is so much simpler when you only concern yourself with a single meal. I am losing 2 lbs a week, sometimes more. Thank you, Dr Fung.

      @philipreed6893 OMAD is One Meal A Day (2MAD is the acronym for 2 Meals A Day). It is a way to restrict calories, wuthout drastically cutting caloies, and it allows the body to adjust its hormone regulation by eliminating frequent hormone, such as insulin, spikes. Paired with exercise (calisthenics, weight training, & interval training), OMAD can steady "remake" your body and spirit no matter your age. Younger people & very physically active people may be better served by 2MAD eaten in a scheduled 4-to-8 hour period every day. There are many, many TH-cam videos on OMAD & some on 2MAD. 🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
    00:00 🍽️ *Extending fasting periods and eliminating snacks can aid in weight loss by keeping insulin levels low, facilitating fat burning.*
    04:14 🔄 *Fasting triggers physiological responses like lower insulin, higher sympathetic tone, cortisol, and growth hormone, leading to increased metabolic rate and fat utilization.*
    05:35 🕰️ *Fasting variations include 16-hour fasts, 24-hour fasts, two meals within a 6-hour window, one meal a day, or multiple days without eating.*
    09:24 🌾 *Fiber-rich, unprocessed foods slow down glucose absorption, reducing insulin spikes compared to processed foods.*
    12:09 🥤 *Juice fasting's effectiveness depends on sugar content; vegetable juices with low sugar can be healthier, but it's generally less effective than regular fasting.*
    16:03 🩺 *Dr. Jason Fung hopes his work helps reverse type 2 diabetes, challenges the calorie-centric view of weight loss, and encourages healthier lifestyle changes.*

      It's the high blood sugars in the body which is making the diabetic person feel tired constantly. Alternate days include this in your diet. Monday eat garlic 1 or 2 cloves before you eat your meal. Tuesday drink a glass of hot turmeric water before your first meal 200 ml of hot water add half teaspoon turmeric powder, a pinch of pepper powder, mix well drink. Tuesday night soak half teaspoon of fenugreek seeds in about 100 ml of water, next day Wednesday have this water and the soaked seeds (chew them well don't swallow them) before you have your meals.
      These 3 are game changers for diabetics. Do this alternate days as many days possible. Your tiredness will be better.
      You got this. Keep going 💪

    The reason they say it’s bad for you is because the reality is if you don’t eat as much, you don’t SPEND as much on food, which means the businesses SELLING the food aren’t making as much profits, which makes it bad for THEM.
    There’s NOTHING bad for you in intermittent fasting (unless you have a condition that requires you to eat at times) and it only benefits the individual, without having to spend money. I use intermittent fasting to maintain my weight at my desired result for years and it absolutely works.

      Been saying this for years, we grow up learning that eating 3 times a day is IMPORTANT....for the system to work,not you. I eat once a day,never been better and weight is steady, eating 3 times a day is actually insane. They want money, we are the income, and commercials has shaped us since the dawn of time basicly. Its all lies.

    I did intermittent fasting all my childhood . We went hungry lots !! Grew up and joined a gym, was asked how I kept so slim ? Uhhh, go hungry . Get past the initial hunger pains and growls- get past that and it goes away . It will quit. Then you just have the habit of reaching for food to get past.

    I first watched Dr. Fung back in 2021 and I've been doing IF/OMAD since. I lost 20lbs in the first 6 months and I've kept my weight btwn 160-165 ever since. My lab/blood panels are great and I feel great. Thank you, Dr. Fung!

    Love Dr Fung, he knows what he is talking about and people need to listen. We as a country are sick because of fast food and low quality processed trash. we buy for our kids. Kids don’t fast but feed them real foods God has grown for us and they will calm down and slim down. Great conversation Steven.

    Dr Fung is absolutely brilliant. He’s in a class by himself.
    It amazes me how little we know about the hormonal systems in the body. We look at glucose, carbs, protein and fat but our comprehension of the hormones that respond to and call for them.
    Would love to see a program on that helps to illuminate what we know we don’t know and what we don’t know that we don’t know. Call it lucid ignorance but it’s an important step for any understanding.
    When we have that understanding, our silly model of protein/carb/fat will blossom into something meaningful and real.

    Have lost 32lbs from 227 in August of last year to 195 today bc of this! Didn’t even know the science behind it, just tried it and started lifting weights (no cardio) and the fat started shedding, best change I’ve made in my life

      So you just do weights and IF? What time do you work out? How do you deal with hunger after working out?

    • @Reverendpluto
      @Reverendpluto 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@prateekbhurkay9376 I’m currently at 186lbs since this post, for the first 6 months I was only doing weights, IF, and no cardio, and had pretty insane results. I’ve now added cardio 2-3x per week to accelerate progress and summer is coming quick, I will typically walk 20-30 mins on a 13 incline 3 speed bc running takes a little too much of a recovery for me, not to mention how hungry I get when I run.
      In terms of dealing with hunger, it was never an issue until I started trying cardio occasionally. The days I would do it I would always snack late at night but when I didn’t I never found myself hungry late. Would only eat between 12pm-8pm and was only having 2 full meals per day (pretty decent size meals w lots of protein) + 2 protein shakes (1 first thing in the morning before even coffee, 1 after gym) and maybeeeee some Okio yogurt between the 2 meals if I felt any hunger. Some would say I wasn’t getting enough protein but that didn’t slow down the progress at all. I’ve moreeeee than doubled my strength on every lift, just stayed consistent with 4 days of gym a week to start and now I’m up to 5.
      I work fully remote so I would either go to the gym @11am and eat breakfast right when I got back around 12pm bc I enjoy fasted workouts, ORRRRR (this is what I do almost every day now) I would eat breakfast @12pm during my lunch, wait till I got off (around 4-5pm), go the gym, then come home around 6pm and have my last protein shake and dinner then around 7pm. That’s still my schedule today and the progress has been great.

    • @Reverendpluto
      @Reverendpluto 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@prateekbhurkay9376 yup, only weights and IF. I work out after work so around 5pm every day 4-5x per week. Usually wake up @ 8am for work, have a protein shake w water before starting my day + some coffee, work on an empty stomach until 12pm when I cook my first meal (lots of eggs). Then will continue working till I’m off and immediately go to the gym. If I need a snack before I go the gym after my first meal I just have some Okio’s Greek yogurt. By the time I’m home it’s around 6:30-7pm and I’ll have another protein shake and then cook dinner and I’m set for the day. Only would get hungry late at night when I did cardio, did way too much late night snacking so just removed cardio and it’s been great since. This has been my routine for 8 months now and I’m actually down to 186lbs at this point.
