      For example, i bought a Yugioh Wild Survivors booster recently for 3€ and got a Collector's Rare card that is worth +80€ , but who is really going to buy that card, how many people really want to collect that card? It kind of makes sense. MTG is not just collectible cards, the values of singles aren't just driven by scarcity per se, but also by the playability of the cards. The P9 are basically unplayable, only few people play Vintage in real life and anyway pretty much all Vintage events are proxied anyway, so the playability of cards like the MOXs is almost ZERO. So basically the P9 (along with some other Vintage card are pure collectibles, excluding Time Twister). On the other hand, Commander is the most played MTG format right now, not competitively, but in general yes. Sol Ring is almost in EVERY single Commander deck. On top of that, these serialized cards are even more scarce than actual P9s. So it makes sense that they get in the range of the thousands dollars per card. There is an exception to the P9, which is Time Twister that confirms my theory. Time Twister is the only P9 legal in Commander. Many years ago it was considered BY FAR the worst P9 and I remember it being way cheaper than other non P9 cards like Bazaar, Mishra's Workshop and so on... while nowadays is more expensive than Ancestral Recall.

    The preorder system works if the stores dont act like greedy sob's. If you take early early preorders, you win because you get extra sales. When they cancel orders, they are just having their cake and eating it too. The store never loses because of their cost basis especially in the preorder period (unless the set catastrophically flops).

    Welcome to the world of sports cards. Everyone chasing that Luka 1/1, Burrow 1/1, Brock Purdy 1/1, Jasson D 1/1, etc with bounties. So what happens next? Once the creator figures out the secondary market has an appetite to gamble, they double the retail price, to double their piece. You'll see more serialized cards and you'll see more collaborations with popular themes.

  • @screwthenet
    @screwthenet ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yup, makes sense given the chase attention they are also getting. As I have said for months: them serialized elf, dwarf and human rings will be worth a pretty penny, but IM still betting on The One Ring getting up to 3 million or more, an d then when its Beckett ( or PSA or something else if whomever finds it just wants to be silly) graded, it would likely rise to 5 or 6 million to maybe even 10 million one day! DONT DESTROY IT! IT is THE ARTIFACT of ARTIFACTS mtg card! ^

    • @screwthenet
      @screwthenet ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, its not so much the fact that stores are making a couple extra bucks on top of the box price, its the sheer fact that the box price itself from the get go is so outrageously high, and this has been an increasing trend for the mtg boxes for a few years since before even Throne of Eldraine. We have literally seen this happening and despite the potential value that some might get back after cracking boxes, even the price of the individual packs have gotten high too over the years. Once I saw the collector boosters getting close to and then going over $40 bucks, I was just too disappointed in MTG and still cant decide if I am comfortable buying even a pack. Its just too strange and it makes me relaly miss Golen era and Silver Era magic when I was a kid. BE well.

    • @screwthenet
      @screwthenet ปีที่แล้ว

      welp...the ring was found over a month ago now...and...it was just PSa graded...WOnt be worth as much, unless somebody regrades it by Beckett and it gets the GOlden label 9.5/10 grade. Dear Rudy, here’s a thought for you.
    If we look only at English collector packs, we know that they’ve printed 3,300,000 or 275,000 boxes, as we can deduce this from the 1:3,300,000 chance of pulling The One Ring. I’ve seen two complete case un-boxings online where each case averages about 30 total box toppers per case or 5 per box, i.e., that means there are 1,375,000 total box toppers in English collector packs! Breaking that down that’s 275,000 foil toppers [since the box topper is a guaranteed foil], 1,089,000 non foil [ 1,375,000 - (275,000 foils + 1% chance of getting a surge foil], and 11,000 surge foils. Hmm… In terms of how many of each of the 30 exist in collector packs that’s: 9,167 foils, 36,300 non foils, and 367 surge foils [rounded to the nearest up]. If for every surge foil there are 25 foils and 99 non foils, then each surge foil of The Great Henge could cost anywhere between $1,600 and $4,000 [X20-X50 times the regular foil price] or more. I mean, if a 1/700 sells for $13,000 then what stops a surge foil from selling for more? And that’s assuming Wizards is printing the same amount of each topper. There are so many Timmy’s out there burning through their cash supplies during inflation that it’s just stupid! Wait until the rates of their borrowed money go sky high or deflation hits. Ouch! I wonder how many Timmy’s bought the top 10 or 20 cards of this set already. If you’d purchase the top 12 regular priced cards of the set already, you’d be $60 plus dollars poorer. Imagine those who bought a play set. Now imagine the potential prices of The Great Henge or Ancient Tomb when we factor how many copies are actually hitting the market. This is a limitless print product! MH2 won’t come close to selling as much as LOTR. Add draft, set, and foreign boosters of all types an me thinks the market might not be able to handle the surge of cards. Plus add Secret Lairs, more Lord of the Rings future products, the recession getting worse, mistrust, and wallet fatigue. Time to buy more Reserve List cards as Timmy’s attempt to cash out at extreme low buy out prices. I think, if I can bother to go to the prerelease, I’ll keep playing OS 40 formats and 7 points.

      "What stops a surge foil from selling for more?" The person that's throwing the money at that 1/xxx or the person they're hoping to flip it to doesn't know or care what a surge foil is. They're LotR fans who go "look, number printed on card, it number one" and that's it. This is money temporarily coming in from outside that just wants the thing with the right number on it from that thing they like, they're not starting to collect mtg in general. Same thing happened with graded games, got a bunch of "well 9.6 A has gotta be higher than 85+ because math bro" and the market resettled after they found a bag holder.
