I am sure I had a serialized artifact from the Brothers War set and I have either given it to someone or I just can't find it because there were no prices on them when the set first came out, so I thought it was worthless or worth fractionally more than the foil version.

I’ll just keep my original set from when they came out in the 90s. I loved the books as a young woman as a college student and even later in life I thought the artwork on the cards was beautiful at the time and I don’t give a damn whether there is one ring or 12. I’ll keep what I have been completely happy with that and let everybody else blow smoke up each others pant leg or skirt or whatever, I seriously doubt we will ever see the card.

Hasbro will have learned from McDonald's Monopoly game mistakes where you don't let chance happen or trust one person with this process. This card will be placed into a specially collated pack and hand delivered to a random store for opening with witnesses. They won't let this pack go missing or unopened.

I didn't know damaged cards held any value, because from what I've seen, the one ring is damaged BEFORE is even in a pack. It's curled and curling harder every day. Soon it'll look like a masters 25 box topper only it was just made

while it is hilarious and stupid that the card is already curling before it goes in a pack, i doubt the whales swinging their big washers and dryers around care too much if it’s curled. it is after all 1 of 1, it could be torn in half and someone would still want it

I'm surprised nobody suggested that if the One Ring gets pulled too early and it tanks the prices, that the Pinkertons will be sent to requisition the card so it can be put back into a random pack to keep the ball rolling... Personally I'm just waiting for the day when we have Rudy's The One Taco serialized Taco.

You could certainly do more 1 of 1 card sales with D&D artifacts. The Rod of Seven Parts. The Teeth of Dahlver-Nar. The Throne of the Gods. WotC already put some of them into Forgotten Realms...but there are others that this could be done with.
the rest of the cards in the set seem good, they seem like a lot of cards that will be auto includes in a lot of architypes of commander decks, because of this the collectors boxes will probably maintain a decent value.

Why? You really think that many people are buying $350 lottery tickets? That seems silly. Much more likely that it’s been selling well because it’s LotR and any of the limited and serialized cards will probably outprice other serialized cards by a lot. Great IP, quite a few good cards so far, box toppers; there’s no reason to tank much below initial pricing. If these really get opened in crazy numbers sealed might actually become hard to get see a boost.

Wotc knows where the pack that this card is in at all times and knows what store is going to open it. Sign this NDA and make some under the table dough and get some free publicity. They will not take the chance for this thing to end up in a bathroom trash can at a Walmart.

I expected the set to be Forgotten Realms bad, but it turned out to be pretty hot, too.
My guess what will happen (if the opener is savvy and did his math): *person opens the card --> tells nobody and vaults it --> starts buying premium boxes to flip --> as supply dwindles and ring still not pulled (cant cause he got it himself) offload boxes for 2/3/4x --> Tell press you found ring. This entire thing comes down though if the time loss in media hype and the one ring value is compensated by flipping premium product.
I wonder what box prices will be if it turns out that the One Ring ends up sitting in one of the boxes in Rudy's basement for 10 years?

Rudy has taught me that the boxes are complex derivatives of the cards in the box. For that reason, I think there will be a substantial price difference if some time passes before the ring is found.
This. So many people will open every box they can to find it, while the sealed boxes skyrocket just off the CHANCE of finding it. Imagine selling the box like 6 months down the road from release for like $1,000 only to find out your box had the ring all along. Such a gamble.
The one ring is only in english boxes. There are some rare sol rings too. Its gonna be fun.

If I was a store with tons of product and I pulled it day 1 I would just not tell anyone. If months go by and no one's pulled it the demand for the boxes will start to climb. 1 / 300k is pretty bad but if there's like 5k listings on TCG player left there's going to be more people willing to pull the trigger for it.

I work at a place where we make Tim hortons cups. We use to do roll up before the switch. When we did the big prizes main off would come down set up cameras around the machines and kick anyone that wasn’t part of the process to the other building. Once they made all the big prizes they pack all those cups in a box and leave. I would imagine wizards knows exactly where the 1/1 is going. Maybe not what store but what area

I have been saying for 10+ years to do limit card prints in new sets that were also tournament playable to really spice up the the game.
Everything about this set is golden. The ip is beloved by multitudes so it's inevitable that it just does well.
Some things about this set are brown.
Imagine it stays in a sealed box undiscovered.
Also, I predict that the Special Edition Collector Boosters (out this Christmas) won't sell nearly as well as the ones that actually have a shot at the 1 of 1 or any serialized rings. Hasbro/WotC will look at that and look at the disparity in sales between the English versions and the non-English that don't have a chance for the Ring and conclude that they NEED to do it EVERY time in every version to keep sales up. It will be more like 1 of 10 and they will have a couple for each language version they print. They want every pack in every language to have that low chance for a monster serialized pull. Like having the set Mythics also have low count serialized alt-art versions. I also expect, eventually (year or two from now??), to have a serialized low count Power 9 clones. (like a "Sable Lotus" or some Dual Land rename. Reserve List now means no "massive" reprinting. Keeps in line with 30th edition reprints they already did.)

For real. Star City Games is probably going to end up with it. They crack so much sealed product they, at least, will have the greatest probability of finding it.
Right now, 7th of June 23, 360€ for a German collector box, 450€ for an English one, with 20 German boxes and about 200 English on cardmarket.
I only take a step back and look at the bigger picture when I go to the restroom.
Boxes go over 600 a box and then a press release from Wizards that they "Forgot" to put it into the product. And nothing. Ploy Succussful. Many weeks later Universes Beyond Diablo: 3x Primevil cards all 1 of 1 cards. Lap it up never learn

Hi Rudy, when you brought up what happens if it isn't pulled/surfaced with like 75% of the product ripped, look up the stuff going on with 2018 panini prizm with the Luka Doncic 1/1. Some fascinating market movement spikes and massive valleys.
The best case scenario for wizards will be if the ring doesnt get pulled for a while. And its not a price drop on the boxes i think that the longer it takes to fi d the more hype it will build.

I believe the 2 experiments this year on collector boosters this year will be combined:
The 1/1 card and the Universes Beyond collector booster packs.
If Dr. Who Beyond commander had it, its 1/1 would be the Tardis, for example.
1/1 Tardis would be a good chase but there will never be anything with the confluence of the 1/1 One Ring. The synergy is off the charts

They know the One Ring isn't gonna sell any of the other boxes other than collector boxes, so they intentionally loaded the box toppers with some of the best reprints we've seen in the past couple years.
I'm still wondering how a company could mess up a D&D Magic set so badly. This LotR set is gonna flop (and I'm one of the biggest LotR fans ever). I'm not gonna touch this set for 5-6 months. I expect X-mas sales and stores dumping this product to meet the next FoMO thing. You want a good deal? Look at products that were released 6 months ago.

The 1/1 prices are ridiculous, I understand that the whales who want this can pay big numbers but if 1/1 price can be compared to sports cards 1 mill seems way too much. I'm of the firm belief of 200 - 400k since so many hypedogs with too much cash want it
If this card sells for a million or more then the Black Lotuses are undervalued.

@@kinGhidora Yeah it's definitely people trying to gain clout rather than just pure interest in the item. I don't really buy into the 1/1 thing. You can make something rare but you can't reprint the history that comes with a Black Lotus or any old card. If this end up being the only 1/1 they ever do then I might be swayed but we all know that isn't going to happen.
This is a unique best with the LotR synergy of the ONE ring. No MtG 1/1 will ever be able to touch this. It’s unique in 2 large fan bases excludes it from comparisons to other cards.

A lot of people focused on the one ring when there's cards in this set that look amazing. I'm not a big LotR fan but I want a lot of these cards
Everyone remembers the first one. Then you get to a point where there's a 1 of 1 of every card. In the early 2010's there were 10 or fewer 1/1's of most baseball players. Today, there's 200-300 of each player. It's all marketing and hype beasting. Dave & Adams, who is offering the $1 Million did the same thing for a 19 year old baseball prospect 1/1 earlier this year.
Even if they do it again. This will have been the first time this was done. Therefore making this ring valuable no matter how many times they do it again.
And of course it's the one ring
The ring being found early won't TANK the price. But it NOT being found will hold the price up over a long period of time.
Going to be less sealed product over time
There's no way they would put it in early prints of this set.

If I opened the One of One Ring, I would travel on foot to the Magic factory, and cast it into the machine from which it was printed, thereby destroying it forever. It's the responsible thing to do.

The only thing that makes me thing otherwise is that the Legends cards made no difference to Dominaria United. Mind you maybe they did. Maybe those boxes would be half the price without the Legends cards. 🤔

its almost a given that WotC knows and tracks the location of the one ring and they will be the one to decide where it is pulled

The Shaddowfax card that was spoiled has the reminder text on it for what haste is. That is of course, a reference to Gandalf's line "Ride shaddowfax! show us the meaning of haste!"
What if WOTC makes another film line reference?....in The Fellowship of the Ring, Boromir says "it is a gift" in reference to the one ring....I theorize that it will definitely be in one of the "Gift Edition" bundles....I'm just sayin....
I was looking at it from supply and demand logic - at this point, the market is getting hit with high demand due to 1 of 1 publicity. If the one ring is found, the demand will shift for those other players. Make sense? I’m not saying it will tank, I’m saying the one ring component will impact demand and will allow supply to catch up.
I don't know. Marketing strategy? Sure. Of course. But I also just think its kind of fun.
And as a big fan of Middle-earth, I love that the One Ring is getting this sort of treatment.
A friend asked me, if it was possible to pull it in a prerelease and I did. What would I do? I told him I'd sleeve it up, play the prerelease, and riffle shuffle every match. I wouldn't sell it, but I would send it in afterwards to get graded.

Wizards are going to want the card found. In theory unless every pack in existance is opened it could be in the last unopened box. This might be hyped up but I still imagine plenty of people could open this from a loose booster and not know what they actually have, stick it in a binder and forget. I don't believe this will be truely random even if it looks random to us.

This is the 3rd 1/1 card in mtg history. World champion and shichifukujin both never saw a second copy made.
Those cards are both theoretically expensive, but not a "big deal" in magic year-to-year
Those card have no IP behind them and haven’t come to market in decades so it’s impossible to know their impact. The dragon is a big deal and goes out on display.

I have no problem with a one of one serialized card if the IP calls for it. A bad example, but just off the top of my head, say they do a King Arthur themed set and they did a one of one Excalibur card. Well, in my opinion, that would work… it’s an epic item and the like, so thematically it would make sense. Just one cardboard collector’s opinion.
My favorite thing about the ring is imma get a lot of cool art cards super cheap seeing as how many collectors boxes are gonna get plowed through.
