I've been saying this for years, go look at the death of superman comics in the mid 90's. This is the exact same thing magic is doing. They've created what they say are collectibles instead of creating products that the consumer decides whether or not they are collectibles. This never works. It's just like the 90's comic disaster and the death of superman comics where a prime example if that.
I switched to focusing on FaB about a year ago. I occasionally buy magic stuff, mostly commander, but I'd prefer to pick up FaB boxes.

We are still in an overall long term downtrend in my opinion. So no, I wasn't overly bearish. In fact, despite these uptics I'm still bearish. I was born bearish. But there are better times comming. Next year or perhaps the year after. But personally I think the worst has yet to come for the financial world globally. Stocks, Crypto, Collectibles etc etc.

if you don't own stocks already: start taking at least half of what you spend on MTG and buy stocks instead.
The first listing in tcgplayer for TOA 1st ed is a store offering 450!!! boxes for 68 usd. If I were Rudy I would swoop in and buy the whole cargo. The entry point is so low that the downside is truly reduced. Now that everybody is on to the first 3 unlimited boxes and MON (due to next release being light nad shadow again), I feel TOA 1st and EVR 1st are the real killing strategies.
I just opened a case of ToA. on my channel. (well a few packs on video, the rest off) I pulled 2 legendary cold foils.
All emotions aside, personally I have a couple of issues with holding a lot of sealed product that makes it not a very desierable asset as a pure investment:
- extremely low liquidity
- the physical space it holds, which for people living in apartments in big cities with high cost per m2 is not something to underestimate
- opportunity cost
- generally limited returns that most of modern products grant over a relatively long span of time when inflation and shipping costs are deducted
I can see the value in investing in certain premium specialty sets, but most of releases I see as skippable in favoure of alternatives such as stock shares etc.
I can see it working well for some under certain conditions, but generally I'd rather avoid to keep boxes taking dust and living space for years with often dubious opportunities of decent returens.
I stopped buying and storing sealed product and just the cards I win playing is still a pain to store and keep in sellable condition. As far as investments go it sure feels better to hold a dividend paying stock that I can sell with the push of a button.

Concerning WTR, Arcane and Cru Unlimited, people did not care because it was labeled as "unlimited". If they would have called it "Beta", which is more fitting people would prob had another approach for the WAC Unlimited sets.
I can remember, my LGS had all 3 of the first sets on ramp all day, any day, for several years. Only around dec22, all WAC unlimited products disappeared. I opened several displays of the unlimited sets of WAC. Sometimnes I just stopped by and bought 10-20 booster of them.
And now, when supply is getting scarce, people want it. Clown world.
I think unlimited was originally meant to be like History pack than could be reprinted if needed. Now history pack is new unlimited. Until there is something new that will replace it.
@@wigitiI think that was the original community misconception. It was design to fill the market as required when the original sets ran short with CRU unlim being a late entry that was not planned.
It was never going to be reprinted over and over as that's an impossibility.

so as I 've gotten to the end of the video i've thought that the real answer is maybe ... nothing. Some assets cycle from desirable to toxic or back the other way again because of other issues that are larger overall. If there is no direct catalyst can be mostly unrelated politics and macro socio and economic issues that drive things and sometimes you just have to ride em out.

Rudy I can tell you the “why” Monarch was worthless sixty days ago and fire today. Half of the set was unusable in gameplay sixty days ago. The announcement of the next set has that half of the set usable again when that set comes out.

Rudy. Im watching at midnight hunt and crimson vow low part. My take why its off low. Was just thinking that last night and was looking. Supply running out. I noticed this month my game store versus games took off there sale of zendikar rising, Kalhiam. Set boxes and collector boxes . then looked at tcg player kaldhm and afr collector box set and draft off low. Now few more months like 5/6 months might be seeing spike in crim and mid and so on. As age for every set in past in line. Was thinking why are the art cards worth more in midnight hunt and crimson vow as well. .. well. Rudy and Nolimit was buying the f out of set boxes at that time :) think you even gave a lil shout out to set boxes at that time :) i love thise set boxes.

They might not be good enough to scam someone in a sale, but they definetly are near perfect for just playing with them without ever rising any suspicion even from the most veterans out there.

We still have to see how the current MTG FIRE products age for several more years I think.
I think it's also a big mistake to compare booster boxes and their performance prior to Eldraine, with anything post Eldraine, because of the massive product expansion and variants. Booster Boxes now are nothing like pre-Eldraine boxes.
