  • Our yacht refit is almost completed. We test out all our upgrades on our sailboat and do a shakedown cruise from False Bay Yacht Club to the Waterfront in Cape Town. Cape Point deserves all the respect in the world, but if you plan it right and have a ton of luck on your side, it can be uneventful and a really beautiful sail. We enjoyed a few days in the calm water of the very protected V&A yacht club marina and have lots of catch ups with friends as we prepare to say goodbye to the city and leave on our adventure. We test our 36-foot yacht in preparation for some blue water sailing.
We are planning to live and explore the Indian Ocean from our sailboat. We did a refit of a TOSCA 36 and left Cape Town in October 2018. A large part of sailing is learning how to be adaptable and change plans - our biggest being our failed engine as we were making our way from Knysna to Port Elizabeth. Follow along as we figure out how to live with less.

Hi there. How does the mooring at the waterfront work? Do they have visitors berths or reciprocal agreements with the other Cape Town marinas. I’m off in the next few months on my sailing adventure.

The Knysna Yacht Club does have reciprocal agreements. We are False Bay Yacht Club members and received a reduced rate and use of facilities (club showers) You need to contact the harbour master at Knysna Quays, 0824941607 to check availability for walk-ons. The club will also let you know if they have availability. You can contact the KYC on email. Although we considered mooring, we MUCH PREFER being on anchor/swing mooring in the lagoon. Good luck with your adventure - where are you leaving from and where are you heading?

Got a few options open. Working on how to finance being away from Cape Town and normal income. Got a few options. Local or international. But need to get my miles up before I start getting carried away. Off to rcyc today to see a cheaper option and next week a far more expensive option. Need to find out about possible tax implications etc for a boat that I may want to sell one day in another county. 11 million videos on sailing later and I’m learning new stuff daily. I’ll know more tomorrow than I do today

Yes, you learn by asking and listening, and more so by doing :) It is an exciting prospect and adventure however you look at it or go about it.

You folks got any opinions on the Hunter 33?
