i also think that a part of toxic femininity is judging other women who lack feminine qualities/looks and making them feel less of a woman for not having stereotypical ‘female’ qualities

I feel like a lot of women need to stop blaming 'internalised misogyny' for their awful actions. The patriarchy doesn't force you to make others feel awful, that's 100% your choice. I hate that whole 'internalised misogyny' because once again it's just deflecting blame to men.

I believe toxic femininity diverges from toxic masculinity in the point that toxic femininity (for me) is highly connected to the thoughts of female gender roles imposed by cis men in society. This does not, in fact, take responsibility away from the women that fit into "ideal female roles" in society to accept other types of femininity and how people present themselves, by gatekeeping "female behavior" they only tighten white, cishet, patriarchal thoughts. As a lesbian, I cannot talk with confidence about how toxic femininity affects straight relationships. However, I did have a majority of straight girl friends and did experience the lengths of toxicity in this competitive feeling in homosocial relationships. Anyway, loved the video! Would love to see your thoughts on how that relates to gender identity and transfobia!

Toxic femininity gets on my damn nerves. I just stated on a public forum that I enjoyed playing sports and lifting weights and I was bombarded with women calling me a pick me. Sorry that I'm not "feminine" enough and apparently having different interests now makes me a pick me 🙄

"This is what makes us girls" by Lana del Rey formed my thoughts on toxic femininity. "This is what makes us girls, we don't stick together cuz we put love first." Our complete disregard for our meaningful (sometimes years long) friendships just to be in a relationship that may not even be healthy. Or sometimes disregarding friendships for just a crush.

What’s wrong with being a house wife I see nothing wrong with wanting a traditionalist life

Is a untouched topic so we don’t know very much about it, but I really like your analysis

I feel like toxic masculinity stems from needing to be perceived as masculine. Personally, I can't think of situations where I felt I needed to present myself as more feminine (even though I think those situation exists). I agree with everything you stated and I do believe toxic femininity exists (especially how you describe it in this video), but I can't think of situations where women are at competition we each other to be perceived as more feminine. But that argument only stems from the idea that toxic masculinity and femininity reflect each other.

from what i understand, you define toxic femininity as women who internalize misogyny & the male-gaze so strongly to the point where to start tearing down other women

if toxic masculinity is taking traditionally masculine traits like competitiveness and agression to extremes to the point where theyre toxic, and trying to avoid showing emotions to not come off as weak, then toxic femininity is doing the same with feminine traits or trying to steer as far away from masculine traits as possible. The way women are told to repress their agression and anger leading to relational agression (like in mean girls) is similar to how boys lash out with physical agression because they dont feel able to express sadness or weakness in any other way.

One example of toxic femininity I saw in myself was not wanting to get a truck even though it would help my business because it wasn’t “dainty” enough.

I like this girl. I’m glad she talks about toxic femininity in a way that isn’t dismissing toxic masculinity.

I found it curious that the way that women use to channel their aggressiveness through manipulation, gossip and so on is often used by men too to hurt women

I really loved this video because it shows a topic that people always avoid. I'm tired of the " Toxic Femininity doesn't exist is just the patriarchy " No it's not. It's true that sexism is a big part of the toxic Femininity but we as women should realize it's our problem to solve, and putting the blame on men isn't going to help.
