Thanks for addressing your experiencing using the monitor as a productivity accessory! I recently upgraded to a 34in Ultrawide with horrible text fringing and low brightness and it was quite disappointing. I hope the Alienware is bright enough for my bad eyes and spreadsheets!

I’m looking to buy this over the soon to come asus oled pg27aqdm which is $100 cheaper but only 27 inches with 240hz refresh, it’s oled, and has a matte finish. I want to know your opinion on this as I’ve heard the asus version overcomes some issues with the LG27 inch oled, but I’m worried the matte finish will take away from the experience. I’m a college student who’s starting to get into gaming and I also code ML on the side. From the info I gave you what would you do in my position?
I had the lg 27gr95qe but decided to return it because of the matte coating. It is the absolute worst coating I have ever seen on a display. It's super grainy and very noticeable in games. I have no idea why lg decided to put such a bad coating on this panel, and I had a lg gl850 with a matte coating that was way way better compared to the oled version.
Just wanted to throw in that for coding purposes, you may need to use bettercleartext or mactype. I know in this video, it looks like he got lucky with the panel lottery and fringing is non existent. I can't say my experience was the same as fringing was easily noticable. Mactype did help in certain applications and I guess after staring at it long enough, you will eventually get used to it. Highly recommend lower contrast backgrounds and text colors in your ide as it will mask fringing vs high contrast themes.
Depends if ur into FPS or RPG games more. Great things are being said about the asus monitor. Matte finish is pretty good on that monitor but if u play single player games more Alienware is the way to go. Keep in mind the resolution is higher on the AW34 so you will lose frames
it's a nice review. the text you show in the video looks perfectly ok for me. I hope to get a unit just like that. so you dont notice any text fringing or blurry text in other apps at all? both mac and pc also, what's the model of the alienware monitor on the right?
I don't think the issue is blurry text but just the greenish look in the bottom, it doesn't bother me either. the gains on motion clarity and crispy colors are way beyond any monitor to let a little announce to be a problem. Only thing is the price xD
OLED's have glossy coating. The ambient light is making the black look purple/grey. Glossy coatings tend to be bad in well lit rooms, but looks really good in the dark, or dim rooms.
That's because this doofus didn't change the color space when he jumped straight into HDR. His settings are HORRENDOUS and should NOT look like this. Somehow he convinced himself that this looks good. His blacks look really... Really bad.
Please pin this! Alienware did a firmware update on June 5th that totally fixes eotf tracking in hdr 1000 mode for the dwf! Check out monitors unboxed video from June 12th on the update to check out the improvements!
Black levels looks terrible on this in anything but a dark room due to no polarizer. Definitely shows in this video. Supposedly they are fixing this for the newer 2023 model coming out in a few months. I'd go for the 27GR95QE any day of the week over this. I think the most crappy part about this monitor is the micro scratches on the screen due to Dells shipping. Happens to every single one due to how they package it w/ no film/plastic peel over the screen.
you're telling me there will be a NEW ONE? I literally JUST bought this because I was tired of waiting for like 5 months, do I return it once it arrives?
It's only this video that has this issue though. His colors are all pink, everything is pink, blacks included. Other reviews I saw didn't have any issue with ambient light. Also, you don't need such contrast in daylight, the gray blacks are more of an issue in the evening, when light is under control.
OLED's have glossy coating. The ambient light is making the black look purple/grey. Glossy coatings tend to be bad in well lit rooms, but looks really good in the dark, or dim rooms.
why do the black bars look same colour as the screen e.g at 2m 14c mark the black bars look pinkish. ah just updated my comments, realised its the reflective coating, damn thats terrible.
you can't get it 165 HZ 10 bit on this monitor, only 165Hz 8 bit. You can set it to 100Hz 10 bit. However, you can set Custom resolution to get it to 157 Hz 10 bit. Google it, there is reddit thread how to set it up. I'm really hesitant to do Custom Resolution. Don't know the downside of overclocking monitors, since the product cost quiet a bit of money. Dell had some reason why didn't set those resolutions out of box.
thank you for the video. Do you know how far is the screen side of this monitor from the wall behind? I am dealing with a specific situation with space and think about how deep a table I need, how far the eye distance from the screen of 50-60 cm suits me at the moment. Thank you!
I had this monitor for some days and I found it absolutely terrible. No matter what, it was either too bright or too dark. The colors always felt off for some reason. At my OLED TV i love playing with HDR. But sitting close in front of this one....nah it's annoying af. And for Desktop work it sucks ass even when you turn off HDR, it's just bad.
Why get a QD-OLED with ambient lighting like that? It completely destroys the image - purple-tinted “blacks” become no better than an edge-lit IPS misery…

I just got this today from Best Buy for $999.99 & $149.99 for the 4 year Geek Squad Protection Plan & I’m loving it so far 😱😱😱😱 Except HDR on PC is kinda trash honestly 😂😂😂🤦🏾🤷🏾
@JoonKimDMD I returned it because honestly to me & this is just my opinion but I think HDR on my 55 inch LG B9 looks better & I only bought the monitor because I wasn't sure if LG was gonna replace my panel for my B9 but they ended up replacing it as a courtesy & all I had to pay for was the labor which was $155 so that's a whole lot better then $1,150 for a monitor that was good but not all that to me 🤦🏿🤷🏿
@@UNBOXxp Well I wanted to but that black getting purple when using it in a fairly lit room is telling me to wait for a better tech :) It is even worse than my IPS. Please pin this! Alienware did a firmware update on June 5th that totally fixes eotf tracking in hdr 1000 mode for the dwf! Check out monitors unboxed video from June 12th on the update to check out the improvements!
it does not have built in fans, that is the DW Gsync one that has it
Black levels looks terrible on this in anything but a dark room due to no polarizer. Definitely shows in this video. Supposedly they are fixing this for the newer 2023 model coming out in a few months.
I'd go for the 27GR95QE any day of the week over this.
I think the most crappy part about this monitor is the micro scratches on the screen due to Dells shipping. Happens to every single one due to how they package it w/ no film/plastic peel over the screen.
how do you know a new model is coming?
How come mine had a protective covering?
you're telling me there will be a NEW ONE? I literally JUST bought this because I was tired of waiting for like 5 months, do I return it once it arrives?
@@lynxlagoon he is just trolling. You bought an amazing monitor bro 👍🏼
It's only this video that has this issue though. His colors are all pink, everything is pink, blacks included. Other reviews I saw didn't have any issue with ambient light. Also, you don't need such contrast in daylight, the gray blacks are more of an issue in the evening, when light is under control.
What size is your desk
hey, why does the screen looks so violet ?
OLED's have glossy coating. The ambient light is making the black look purple/grey. Glossy coatings tend to be bad in well lit rooms, but looks really good in the dark, or dim rooms.
nice wallpaper >
will a 3060 be good enough for this monitor?
no, bro, look towards 4070-4070 ti minimum
Does it work on Xbox série X 120hz?
Hiiii Bill :)
😄
im probably going to get this because that 45'' lg oled is too big!
why do the black bars look same colour as the screen e.g at 2m 14c mark the black bars look pinkish. ah just updated my comments, realised its the reflective coating, damn thats terrible.
bezel-less design?
It looks gray and washed out in sunlight
Mac os doesnt have bad text rendering on qd oled, unlike windows.
i subbed for bill content
Holy fuck nice monitor but do you play anything other than slop?
is this still a good choice in 2024?
yes
Hey i am trying since yester day to get my 10bit 165hz to work, did you got 10bit 165hz to work for you ?
you can't get it 165 HZ 10 bit on this monitor, only 165Hz 8 bit.
You can set a custom resolution and get 165hz and 10bit someone figured it out
ughhhh, looks bad during daytime :( heard its only best with the lights off/at night
thank you for the video. Do you know how far is the screen side of this monitor from the wall behind? I am dealing with a specific situation with space and think about how deep a table I need, how far the eye distance from the screen of 50-60 cm suits me at the moment. Thank you!
Does it have type-c? Can I use with my Mac?
The Alienware wallpaper looks disgusting on this monitor. Looks like the QD-OLED's can only be used in caves lol
Oh bro those black levels look so bad in a bright room... Looks like a crappy projector screen or something
No Freesync Problems ? Flickering
First error 8 seconds into the video. Stopped and moved on to the next one.
Bezel less design kidding me they are still clearly there
Why get a QD-OLED with ambient lighting like that? It completely destroys the image - purple-tinted “blacks” become no better than an edge-lit IPS misery…
Jesus Christ this screen looks so bad in your bright room 😱
Like 500:1 contrast bad.
Dope video bro❤🙌🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🎬📽🎞
the haters just because he got it for a console…😂😂😂dudes got the money let him buy whatever he likes you didn’t earn it for him. it’s just a flex something you broke people can’t say 🤣🤣
He donr have the money when he chose to play on a stretched out 500usd console lol? U dumb or somehow
Hi Bill 8)
this is impossible to find a good monitor every video has people in the comments saying it’s awful
The blacks look terrible for an OLED in this bright room! the screen's anti-glare coating is the culprit.
I just got this today from Best Buy for $999.99 & $149.99 for the 4 year Geek Squad Protection Plan & I’m loving it so far 😱😱😱😱 Except HDR on PC is kinda trash honestly 😂😂😂🤦🏾🤷🏾
What is wrong with hdr??
@JoonKimDMD I returned it because honestly to me & this is just my opinion but I think HDR on my 55 inch LG B9 looks better & I only bought the monitor because I wasn't sure if LG was gonna replace my panel for my B9 but they ended up replacing it as a courtesy & all I had to pay for was the labor which was $155 so that's a whole lot better then $1,150 for a monitor that was good but not all that to me 🤦🏿🤷🏿
I have been using OK monitor with VA panel and decided to switch to this one. I got mine on ebay for $750 today.
@@JoonKimDMDThat's a great price 👍🏿
@@JoonKimDMDyeah avoid va panels they are trash
looks awful if there is any trace of light in your room. how can people say this is good is beyond me.
What’s up dude! Try it out first, it’s really that good 👍
@@UNBOXxp Well I wanted to but that black getting purple when using it in a fairly lit room is telling me to wait for a better tech :) It is even worse than my IPS. I don't game at night, don't live in a cave to have every light completely off so ...nah. That is a major con for me. Hope for a better tech - will see what microLED will bring to the table.
