Thanks for watching. This Snapper lost it's self propel quite suddenly. The fix was terribly labor intensive and I even had to McGyver a new guard.

Even though I tell my customers to get the equipment to me at least once a year, many of them wait until they won't run any longer. Many are left out all winter and I find a great deal of fuel issues and rusted cables. One guy that I fixed a generator for has a camp and uses it all of the time. Have not seen it back to me in over three yrs. Then it is an emergency!!! Nice video.

It's discouraging sometimes. You bring a machine back from the dead, clean it all up, give the customer the best advice you can about how to maintain it, while knowing that he isn't listening to a word you're saying and that it's going to be abused until it's back in the shop for the same issues.

Most of my equipment gets less than 30 hours on them per year so I change the oil and filter either in the fall or spring before the season starts. If I did that repair on the lawn I would loose half the bolts. I either do mine on cement or on a tarp or cardboard that way when I drop things it is easier to find. Thanks for sharing. Even though Briggs and Stratton recommend changing the oil once every 50 hours I change the oil, clean the spark plug then I clean & reoil the air filter once every 25 hours or twice a year depending upon how much I use the lawnmower.
I stick to Hondas 25 hour oil change interval with a Briggs and Stratton lawnmower, the spark plug in mine is the original Champion plug that it was fitted with in 1988, it's been through oil fouling in that engine & the correction for that problem was new piston rings, the electrodes run grey instead of oily now !

I live in northeast Ohio so it only gets used 6 or 7 months out of the year. I've only done oil changes on it once every 2 or 3 years. Same with tune ups. After 10 years it still runs great. Once every two years Ill change the oil. Yearly is better, but because I am the neighborhood Mower guy, I never get to use my own mower anyway, so I get one or two uses a year out of my own since I use customer mowers for testing. Air filters are replace as needed, and I never replace plugs as a service. Just buy a new one, and keep it hidden for when you need it

First changed oil after 12 seasons. In 14 season changed spark plug, this spring washed original air filter and put it back, its 17th season for old briggs an it still runs. Pull cord is abnormally worn out, but still not snapped. Once needed to weld pushing handle tho, it was from super thin metal and bends like a snake.

Just thought I'd let you know that the electric start is FIXED but the self-propel needs a belt so why not. I was looking here to see if I was goofing up more than usual but looks about the same. Got the old stone age tube of Permatex#2 and slathered the primer gasket with it from the pressure side to the exit to the cartb. Even bored out the carb hole to 1/8th for a bit but not much. Just enough to get a good seal on the gasket to carb body. Takes about 10 pumps but it fires right up with the starter. Now to get a new belt and clean it up and try, try again. THEN for the pressure washer tank drain project. Thanks, Pal and BLESSINGS!

Aw, that’s not a Snapper mower, it’s a cheesy MTD/Troybilt with a Snapper decal stuck on it! Sad what things have come to. Anyway, I change the oil at least once a season (mix in some Lucas oil stabilizer with it), air filter can get blown out if it’s not too bad but I keep a bunch of replacements in stock in case it gets too dirty. Otherwise I just use it until something starts acting up but I will fix it right away plus I ALWAYS keep a good running backup mower. Loved the coat hanger idea, very innovative! I think I was lucky to find one because some sources say they're on back order or only available through special order. It's becoming more apparent to me that the electric crap is taking over. California is already beginning to ban gasoline powered yard equipment. Eventually gasoline powered stuff will be phased out and it won't be an option for ordinary consumers. So I figure I better buy what I can now before it's too late. I still need a Echo gas powered back pack blower. 😩

My son gave me his Snapper self-propelled which is very similar to the one in the video but has been out in the weather for several years. The self-propelled does not work. The drive cable is frozen. How can the cable be freed up? I don’t want to spend $50 on a replacement cable (#703564) as I only need to use the mower for a couple of months until my new sod successfully roots. I sprayed a lubricant into the cable and will check it in the morning to see if that helped.
