    Real story here, about 12 years ago when I was working at a dealership, the Toro Commercial mowers were constantly coming in under warranty because the drive stopped working. There were 4 techs in the shop, and these things kept coming in on the regular under warranty to repair the drive, and we were being overburdened by it. All that was happening is that the belt would come off. Easy enough right, put the belt back on? Sure, but then they'd be back a week later with the same issue. I started to get mad, and began designing a belt guide bracket, cut and drilled by hand, that I started putting on all the Toro Commercials that came in with that issue (Lawnboy is the same thing, same machine, just green). They never came back after. SO I ended up building about 100 of these brackets to keep on hand, and put the box of finished brackets out for all the techs to use as needed. Well guess what, not long after, Toro started installing their own at the factory, same shape, same design as mine.... they basically copied my idea and used the part I created. Never got so much as a 'thank you' or any recognition at all.

    I have this exact mower. It’s my second one. The first one sacrificed its transmission to the aggressive hills in my yard. I replaced all the internals and it worked great again. That’s when I found out the gears were plastic, but the commercial grade Toro’s had brass gears. I almost bought one of those mowers instead of repairing mine, but they were $600 back around 2005. I gave that mower to my parents when I divorced and moved to an apartment. When I got a house, I got another Toro PP. Flat yard, no problems going on ten years. I also have a Timemaster with the PP system. It’s the best self propelled system out there.

    I’m very fond of Toro’s Personal Pace system and the Smart Stow feature. I’m a Toro guy but I have to say I just got done mowing my lawn tonight with my new (to me) Honda HRN216 and I’m really impressed! I’ve owned and serviced many of the older HRR series mowers in the past and I never really cared too much for them, but this last gen HRN216 is awesome and a real keeper. Lightweight, nimble and cuts beautifully. Even tall damp grass doesn’t clump up with the rear chute engaged, performs much better than I thought it would based on my experience with the older models. I won’t be selling that one.

    I don't know what if any mower I'd recommend now. I was dealing with the old stuff for so long I lost track. Out of the loop. And anything new is made complicated on purpose. I am satisfied with what we have NOW because of the position we're in as far as age and health goes BUT I didn't need another truck so we got a mower. Simple. Don't need to haul much but the grass keeps growing and it'll be US cutting it as long as we can. And with that, we modify our mowing options. The owners of that mower were exceptional in the care they gave it. That we would do the same. Thanks and Blessings

    I believe this is also the final generation Toro Recycler that came with the water port, built in side discharge and the 163cc Briggs engine.

    Some Toros do come with a no name engine, about 5 years ago I bought the cheapest SuperRecycler Toro (because I wanted a magnesium deck) that both me and the dealer thought was a Kohler engine, but turned out to be a clone when it came time to replace the carb from ethanol damage 2 years ago. It took my local Toro dealer by surprise as well as me, as 95% of Kohler parts fit this engine, the carb was NOT one of them, and I'm still trying to find a replacement.

Also found a few with electric start which unfortunitly were pretty worn out pushing only 60 to 80mPSI compression but I still have them . Would I want an expensive self propeled push mower with lots of features? Depends. I have a Toro Recycler with Personal Pace, and I love the PP. For many years, it was my primary mower for my small suburban lot. For that small lot, yes I like the PP feature. I have recently moved to a property with MUCH more mowing requirements, and for that, a push mower is only for trim work. For that, I would prefer a simpler mower without the self propeled feature. I'm not getting rid of the Toro, though. Who knows what the future holds, and I doubt I'd be able to get any significant money for a 10+ yr old mower. even though it's in good shape. I prefer gas engines for mowers, and in a few years, I won't be able to buy a mower like mine.

While using gasoline mower i had electric corded one my mother used it because the other one was heavy and it didnt had self propel. The electric one is still going strong even after almost 30 years also the electric corded mowers have shown that they are reliable simple and even easyer to maintain and to use except handiling the extension cord. And i will recommend anyone who needs to buy a cheap mower to go with electric corded one because they are proven over years and only downside is the extension cord which is a bit troublesome but after you mow one season with it you get used to it.

Let’s just say that I didn’t last two full days before quitting because of how horrible my experience was there. The shop itself was a cluttered mess, the other technicians were very unfriendly and unwilling to help me, and the master technician who was supposed to be training me was constantly going out back to smoke cigarettes, leaving me stranded with something I didn’t know what to deal with for a half hour at a time. But the worst part is that they expected me to have special tools that I currently don’t have. I actually got in a fight with one of the other technicians because of it and that was the last straw. We have a Lazer z E series and the only problems we had with it is a few years ago we had a hard time starting it for the season. But a couple months ago when my mini jeep would not turn on we had to jump start it with the mower and i think it started up first try like it was ran a couple minutes ago. Love the fx730v engine. We were going to sharpen our bladed but we lost some parts so we have to wait. I made a diy chute blocker on it but it id too thick so it does not close all the way. So i might make a thinner one or just keep it like that because we only need it in the first acre of our property because we put everything down there. One weird thing about it is it bogs down a bit in the woods where the grass grows a bit faster but on the sand mound where i broke 2 pipes and water goes out of them often watering a couple feet of grass on both sides. But in summer the sides are green and the middle is yellow. Im not walking with buckets of water 2 acres down to water it. Anyways. The grass grows to a foot or in the summer when the grass is going slow and im not cutting it as often it grows 2 or 3 feet and the mower barley bogs down with dull blades! There is 10 more years until we have to get a new one or it lasts more than 20 years

      it depends, but full strength, I just leave washing the deck to near last so that there's water on it to somewhat dilute it.

    To be honest i don't see why many people are so opposed to electric, for the vast, vast majority of people, a good battery powered mower is simply superior.
    Less vibrations, less noise, very little maintenance, easier to "refuel" and lighter.
    I love my petrol and my petrol powered machines (In fact id love to own lawn equipment from the 60s-70s) but electric is the future, and not a very bleak one in regard for yard maintenance

      My primary push mower is over 10 yrs old. I have a zero turn that's around 20 yrs old. Do you think any of the current crop of battery powered equipment will be in service in 10 or 20 years? How many battery mowers and battery packs will I need to mow 2 acres weekly for the next 20 years?
      I'm an electrical engineer. I really like electric motors, but I don't think battery powered equipment is to the point of being an equivalent replacement for my current mowers.

      @gearhead366 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@AveragePootis Yes, we're talking about push mowers, but I'm also talking about product life cycles. Batteries can be replaced... until they can't. When the mfr stops making that proprietary battery pack after 5 yrs, the mower has reached end-of-life.

    • @AveragePootis
      @AveragePootis 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@gearhead366 fair, but many companies like Ryobi, Dewalt etc. Would probs make them with universal batteries, that can be had for years to come, or atleast made to work with an adapter

    • @gearhead366
      @gearhead366 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@AveragePootis So far, that hasn't happened. All the battery equipment use proprietary battery packs. If I buy something from Greenworks, I have bought into their ecosystem, and need to stay within that ecosystem to maximize my investment in batteries. When I buy a Toro with a gas engine, I can still use the energy source with my equipment from Husqvarna, Cub Cadet, Echo, Stihl, etc. When battery packs get standardized, that will go a long way toward getting me to use them.
